Emotional intelligence always sounded a bit new agey to me, and I had problems with a certain home where words like emotional literacy was used. Therefore there always was some aversive emotional baggage for these terms, that kept me from exploring further. I love how you discredited the idea of having more "positive" emotions. It always sounded weak to me. We shouldn't be continuously flooded with unpleasant emotions, but sometimes trying to avoid certain emotions, just leaves us chasing our own tail. It also makes us unable to accept that bad things exist, which just makes those things exist outside of or own perceptions. Hopefully this channel will help me grow a bit more.

I got 2 minutes 27 seconds in before breaking down. I'm 35, socialized female. Why didn't my parents love me enough to teach me this? I know they couldn't. They didn't know how to love anyone, including me. But man, this video hurt a lot. Had to take a lot of breaks. Took over an hour. Reparenting yourself as an adult is hard. To anyone else out there going through something similar, you're not alone. There's other grown adults curled up into balls bawling their eyes out, and realizing how far back they have to start. But we can do this. One step at a time. We can mature. Just let this nice man's words wash over you, and let the grief happen. You're not alone.

Kevin Herft re-introduced this model to me in his session over the weekend and it surely adds value to understand the intensity of our emotions and exploring what more we are feeling and understanding the why. The emotion I am most intrigued about is love & remorse. I often find myself feeling sad over someone/something we love. Maybe when a colleague or friend disappoint us. I am very sad by the actions but still love and care for the person.

i really like the analogy you use with regard to learning about emotions: emotions are like letters that compose sequences of letters (words) that produce specific outcomes
the whole is greater than the sum of its parts the analogy i used compared life to chess and the emotions to pieces on the chess board but i like yours better: life is like a chess board whereby life makes the first move, the pieces are unknown to you, but as you discover their functions the pieces become more distinct from one another, and from the sequences and combinations of different emotions we serendipitously discover strategy (with strategy is introduced the concept of agency)
This is excellent way of valuing our emotions and how to handle emotions in this world where there is polarity and anything can lead to strong passionate feelings of left or right. Thank you.
As I write my course on the philosophy of emotions I have dived into a world of worlds. The combination of emotional awarenesses under a plethora of difficulty. To learn the management of self emotional code is what I strive for in the highest form. To allow my imagination, ability to love and desire to seek all that is globally...thank you for your work on this very topic...we must feel in order to heal, but I challenge the world to pay attention out there and do better.

Thank you for the video, there is such a mess in psychology field in attempt to explain the difference between emotions and feelings, I wish more people looked into astrological archetypes as astrology explains quite well and easier in a way all that range of emotions and feelings, different states, through the archetypes of planets, their positions in sights and aspects between them, whether in the natal chart, timing, locational influences or synastry (compatibility) etc.
Please make some short videos with this same info but for kids, like young kids - elementary age, 5 yrs old - 11 yo. And maybe in cartoonish format ... you have great info for me to use personally with my own emotional challenges but also, I think, this info would be great for me to use with children and their families/parents/caregivers therapeutically.

Hey, this is a really informative video and very well-structured to get your point across. However, I think the camera angle is too close and too much eye contact which made it a little uncomfortable. All and all good job!
For me the wheel is helpful for me to actually feel emotions. Many of us are closed off to our emotions and identifying them is the first step to feeling them. This “feeling what we feel” can be done through journaling, listening to music that resonates emotionally, watching a film that does the same, or talking to someone.
It’s semantics at some point. The opposite of attraction would be disgust, so look opposite disgust on the Plutchik wheel and you have: admiration, trust, acceptance. I think those cover what you’re describing, no?
