Dear Emma. You made this lesson 6 years ago but I'm sure that today it still has helped a lot of people, myself included 🙂. It's another milestone on the road. Thanks for that !
Who are those people who disliked the video? She´s literally the best RUclips teacher! I´m an English teacher and I share her videos with my students all the time as she provides the clearest and fullest explanations.
People who disliked this lesson are still in the past simple and the worst part of that is, they couldn't show thier passports to be in the present tense so they have gone
@@haniboutlat3711 please, oh please, allow me to have a RUclips name that I want 😂😂😂 or according to you should I always use a professional name on social media? Well, you know, I’m a teacher, a Russian living in Latin America, single mom, macramé maker and a trickster. What’s the best name in your opinion for me?? 😅
It's because she's just going on about 3 verb types and grammar rules, but she doesn't explain when you use it and what it actually means. She talks about "Unfinished time" But that's not a good way to describe it. You don't need a time word at all. "I have seen too many youtube videos" is a perfectly good sentence.
Native English speaker here! I've been trying to wrap my head around what the present perfect tense was for my Spanish class, and hearing the explanation in terms of English really helped! It's hard to understand a grammar rule when you don't even know what it is in your native language. I know I'm not the target audience for this channel, but still, thanks! You're a great teacher!
@@shahdkullab5588 he is saying that he knew these rules in English without consciously thinking about them every time he spoke. They were just natural to him. So when he was studying Spanish, these rules were confusing to him because he hadn’t ever thought about them in his own language. In English, he follows these grammar rules intuitively.
Hey! This is a great way to learn the Present Perfect! One thing for students to remember is this; We use the PRESENT PERFECT when we want to talk about an action that has happened ANYTIME before (and up to) the present. For the SIMPLE PAST we talk about an action that happened at a SPECIFIC point in time (NOT ANYTIME). E.g PRESENT PERFECT - I have never been to England (ANYTIME in my life) vs PAST SIMPLE - I went to England last year (Last year = specific time). We can also use the present perfect to talk about actions that have happened many times in the past. E.g I have been to England 3 times. (In my life).
I've been teaching English for 10 years and I learned something new about the present perfect. Excellent video. When my students need clarification something new, I'll just give them your link. Makes my work one heck of a lot easier.
Phil Brenman Why do you teach the present perfect tense? Please, be kind to think about the aspect of the verb which can be continuous, perfective, or unmarked. I am talking about expressing the past, the presence, and the future. In my opinion "tense" is useless to how to express oneself. There are 16 tenses if I am not wrong but only two forms of the verb - present and past. There is no form which expresses the future, instead there is a construction.
I can clearly say that, this channel is the most satisfying and educational one. Dear teacher teaches a lot and also gives noun phrases like "jog your memory". Please keep continue because I'll suggest this channel all of my friends who wants to learn English from experts. Good luck my friends, well done.
I struck gold when I found this video. I spent several moments of doubts when I struggled to decide which of these tenses to use in the cases you have mentioned. But now, you have clarified the my doubts and I thank you for this. Big fan!

I'm a non-native English speaker. Back when I studied English at school, the Present Perfect was probably the most difficult and confusing English tense to understand. As I realized after a while though, that was not because the tense itself was difficult, but because the explanation provided to us schoolkids was extremely confusing in my opinion. We were told that the Present Perfect is used to describe the actions that happened in the past but somehow have consequences and/or observable result now, in the present, whatever that means (e.g.: "I've lost my passport" - we were told that we need to use the Present Perfect here because it's implied that the speaker can't find his passport right now, so his loss, although happened in the past, has a visible result in the present). I found and still do find such explanation extremely confusing and badly designed. In my opinion it's much better to explain the Present Perfect through its relation to time expressions. The Present Perfect is all about past actions that either happened in an unidentified time or when we want to stress that the exact time when they happened is not important. The Present Perfect is incompatible with specific time expressions, like "yesterday" or "last week" or "on the 12th of September". We need to use it with obscure time expressions like "recently" or "once" or "already". Or we use it when we don't mention any time at all, if we want to stress that the exact time is not important. When I heard this explanation, the Present Perfect became much more clear to me. So we say "I've lost my passport" not because the speaker still can't find it (although it can be true as well) but because we don't know when exactly he has lost it. It's probably not even important. That's what the Present Perfect is about.
I've been studying English for years . I haven't understand the difference between past simple and the present perfect until I watched this video Thanks Emma
