    I've ridden them all, and owned maybe 50 total. You are very correct, the z400 is hands down the most fun and scores in the GOOD column more than the others. I won't sell mine anytime soon. Mines an 03 and has ZERO problems. Very reliable quad.

    Kfx 400 was my first sport quad back in 2006 😎 our property at the time backed up to core land so I have a lot of good memories on that quad. When the ltr 450 came out I had to have one and I ended up trading it in. Even to this day after owning built ktm’s, ltr’s, and Yfz 450r’s if I ever see my orange/black kfx 400 come up for sale I am buying it back 😎👍 lots of tips in this video I did not know about with not building on the 400 platform yet.

    Some solid info Patrick! I have been wanting a 434 kit for my Z for a while now and that dream is coming true soon!! Mine as of right now has a set of Stage 1 Hotcams, FMF Powerbomb header, Q4 Silencer and a few other things. It surprised me when it kept up with my Dads cousins TRX450R with a HRC Cam! Well, it kept up to about 4th gear and the 450 starts to pull away, lol! And I am running stock springs with those Hotcams for about 2 years and haven’t really had any weird problems, on Motosports Website they didnt say anything about stiffer valve springs when I ordered the cams. But hey, shes still runnin good!! And thats a nice effin quad you got there!!

    Very nice information. After chatting with you about my 05 I took the time to check out your other videos. Well that was probably a mistake b/c now you gave me enough info to be dangerous to my wallet. Right now my quad is completely stock and instead of putting some band aid fixes on it I will wait and do a more substantial rebuild. I am right there with you about how the 400 can keep up with 450's. I never have an issue keeping up. I hope you are right that covid caused after parts for this quad harder to find. I am hoping sport quads are not being phased out by side by sides (at least that's how it's looking up here in Ohio). As far as I know yamaha is the only one offering one.
    I went from a banshee to a z400 and ended up being a faster rider. My Z has been very good to me that's for sure.

I have an 03 LTZ 400 bored it out to a 434 ended up having to buy a brand new OEM carb and it the fixed the bogging down issue and it got tuned and new jets for it. But now need to go the route for a swing arm, chain, sprocket, A-arms, calipers, rear axles, and I think my quad would look really good. Funny you mentioned some people leaving their 400’s for a 450. I had a Yamaha raptor 350 and wanted to stay with Yamaha and the next thing up was only a 450. So my cousin’s that had KFX400 and LTZ400 sold their bikes just cause I was on the YFZ450R and they would out ride me in the trails on there 400’s but just because someone got a 450 they wanted one also. 400’s are more then capable to run with 450’s and at the end it’s all about rider skill level. Great video really informative.

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  2 года назад +1

      Yep I think you hit the nail on the head! If you want a 450 get a 450. If you feel like you "need" one that might not always be the case. None of us can ride a 450 to it's full potential and I think the pro stock class at the ATV nationals was proof of that. It's a shame that class is no more, was very fun to watch!

    Mr. Riggs where do I even start? What crystal ball are you looking through lol this is the exact question that keeps replaying in my head over and over. In march 2021, one of my dreams came true and after a year of consulting people and researching I felt that the z400 was the best choice for a quad and we luckily found one that wasnt abused. Im 16 and to this day still havent gotten the chance to ride anywhere but my street. The z has the drz mod, rejet, pro cuircut head with lexx slip on, some other stuff but nothing big like a big bore or crank. My friends have 450s and they ride in the sand and the constant question is did I mess up by not buying the 450? When I test rode the quad it felt like pure madness, the first time I went to buy it I decided to not do so because I felt it was too fast. But then I realised Id adjust to the speed. But the question still persisted, can I keep up with 450s who werent racing but definetely riding agressively? after consulting many facebook groups and forums ive decided to keep the z and hopefully it wont bite me in the ass. Thanks for the great video!

    Hey man, so I have a question, I'm currently on a 2003 300ex (in my profile pic if youre curiously) and I've been trying to find a 450 that had electric start and reverse, and I saw that the kawasaki kfx450r had those, buy the more research I did the more problems I found... so I decided to look into the 400 platforms (my dad has a 99 400ex), and I have had bad experiences with suzuki in the past, so I decided to look more into the kawasaki kfx400s as they met my needs so far with the research ive done, and since they are the same as the ltz this video really helps, do you think the kfx400 would be a good choice?

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  2 года назад +2

      The KFX450R is a pretty solid and reliable quad but I don't feel they have a whole lot to offer over the 400's in terms of performance. The KFX400 is a good quad but I would search for one of the later ones. It is an LTZ400, every part on it is Suzuki so it would almost be foolish to limit your search to just a KFX. Any machine/brand can give you a bad taste in your mouth. I have owned (2) 400ex's and both have given me more problems than any other quad I have ever owned lol. I don't hold that against Honda or the 400ex. It is all in how it was maintained and ridden by the previous owner. Buy the newest and best condition one that you can afford and you should be fine but just know the newest one is now 14 years old.

      From a gate drop, or out of a dig the 450 is the clear winner. In the woods with trees, whoops, and roots sometimes the smoother machine edges out. I think this was made evident by William Yokelys success in the GNCC circuit on one against the TRX/YFZ.
      Obviously if you are trying to compete and win at a high level the 450 is the clear choice and time would be wasted with a 400 platform. I have no issue saying that.

    I love the video but I must say 1 thing. There is absolutely no way that a 400 is even going to compare it to a 700. I've had both and my raptor will walk a banshee. Obviously it's stupid modded now but stock would smoke a 400. Gotta be rider error.

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  2 года назад +3

      Smoke it in what? A drag race? I sure hope so, it's a much more powerful engine. What I am saying in fast paced XC type riding the 700s are big, heavy, and not nearly as nimble as a 400/450 and while you can keep up with a pack on one, they will tire you out due to their weight and high center of gravity. I owned a built long travel 700R for 3 years and while I loved it (and miss it), it was a big/heavy sport quad. Felt like you were riding a bull instead of a horse.
