  • Have you had patients recently with repeat EMS calls and lots of ED visits for nausea and vomiting? They say the only thing that works for them is scalding hot showers and that drug that starts with a "D". Did they just happen to smoke a lot of weed?
In this episode, Dr. Jarvis discusses cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome and reviews an RCT comparing topical capsaicin cream (yes... the stuff of pepper spray fame) vs placebo.

I now think i have CHS, been struggling with it for years, like since I was 18, in and out of hospitals and ER visits for years with astronomical $$$ bills. Im now 36 AND YESTERDAY was my birthday and I was throwing up and in the shower for 3 days until I ended up in the ER AGAIN. they treated me exactly like you said, with little results. I always doubted the paradoxal effects. But it has become so overwhelming and has affected my quality of life. I really appreciate this info and I'm on my path to cessation of cannabis. Gonna try the capsaicin creme tonight. GOD BLEES YOU DOC!

Curiously , I suffered from intense migraine after extreme physical exertion or a bad car ride, where I ended up deeply car sick. Strong smells would trigger these migraines as well, sometimes ending in a ER visit after multiple hours of pain and vomiting. I started smoking pot and since have been able to curb the majority of my migraine episodes, sometimes when I increase the amount of pot smoked, vastly, the likelihood of a trigger increases again.

@@austinlindsey2588 very good, no complaints at all, I haven't smoked since 0ctober 9th of last year and all my symptoms subsided, no flare ups or any stomach issues THANK GOD.

Stop smoking weed and see what happens. You have all the symptoms I have, after 40 years (on and off but daily the past few years now that it’s legal. I was diagnosed two days ago. Holy moly I’m glad I found the answer to ending this pain. As much as I love my bud but now it’s no fun and could kill you from the dehydration shutting down your kidneys/organs. Please stop now before you end up with permanent damage. If you keep smoking take this info to the next ED visit and show the doctor so they know how to treat you and don’t waste time and tests trying to figure it out. Many Drs don’t know about this so people are misdiagnosed. Best of luck!

@@cmendoza1094 just keep your use moderate, or better as needed, so you don’t develop this (by smoking daily or several times a week) and then you will have no more relief from migraine bc I promise this is worse pain.

Dr. Jarvis, Love the podcast, been listening since it started! My suggestion would be to make sure to export and upload to RUclips in at least 1080p.. not just because the video quality, but the audio quality suffers as well in 360p. It shouldn’t take a whole lot longer to export in final cut, but it will take a long time to upload to RUclips.

@Mike Verkest Agree with Mike. Not sure what happened. That’s how it got exported. We’re definitely new at this and appreciate the feedback. Doubt we ever would have known if you hadn’t mentioned it. Thanks!

Very long hot showers, topical capsaicin 0.1 % and believe it or not A&W root beer seems to help many. Small sips only needed to get some relief. I suspect these “at home remedies” will become less effective as time and use goes on. The only permanent relief we know at this point is to stop using marijuana in any form. I’m quitting after 40 years. I just can’t continue to get so sick incur medical bills, miss work. So time to let it go. Some people have died due to dehydration shutting down kidneys and organs. This is serious and needs to be brought out into the public to be aware. So many have suffered so long with no end in site. I’ve only had 3 episodes that landed me in the hospital. I never ever want to have another. Worse than childbirth and no positives coming out of the other side.

What? Did you actually watch the video? Besides the first 5 mins, he talks about CHS and Capsaicin and the studies about it the rest of the video. Makes me think you did not watch or listen. The cream did help me. Studies show its helped a lot of people but for some it’s too strong on the skin. It’s different for different people. Ok.
