Today i answer that question, the rules for this challenge are that i can only kill enemies (or allies) with my pistol, i can use vehicles as long as i don't roadkill anything, my allies can kill enemies for me, and i can dual wield the pistols.
I've been wanting to see if it's possible to beat Halo 3 with only a pistol for some time now. I was planning on doing a biomutant no upgrading challenge but that game turned out to be really bad so i scraped it. It was actually quite difficult to play any levels in Halo 3 on normal or higher since i was avoiding a lot of combat encounters so i played through about half the missions on easy and the other half on normal.

As fun as the original trilogy is, Flood missions are just such a chore. I tend to try running by everything.
I feel like every flood mission in the series was a chore
Ditto idk what it is about the halo 3 flood but they don’t feel as scary as their halo ce and halo 2 versions hell i have a harder time fighting the halo wars adaptation of them, that one level where you have to defend your base while collecting crystals for a bomb or whatever while fending off the flood in waves took me an hour to do

You can actually wield 3 of the same gun, get a pistol as a side arm, switch to your main and pick up a duel weild weapon, then make a pistol your offhand weapon, then you can swap your primary for another pistol. Boom, 3 pistols! Maybe this will help future Challenges!

I've noticed this in your halo 3 runs, but you can just ram that final energy wall with a vehical to destroy it (The highway lvl). It always worked for me.
I don't actually think I ever destroyed it normally, always just rammed it with the wreight that the covies kindly allowed me to borrow

8:11 actually, it is possible to do enough body damage to the scarab that it just gives up. That just takes like 3 hours though.
The Ark and Tsavo Highway are the only levels you 100% can't find a pistol. Flood always have a chance to be randomly carrying one but it's extremely rare in Halo 3. You'll see it once in every 5 playthroughs if you're lucky.

Unfortunately you’re learning this now but you can do a glitch to hold three which gives you more ammo.
Simply get a pistol in your secondary slot, then get a plasma pistol (or any dual wieldable weapon), begin dual wielding, then replace your right hand plasma pistol with a magnum, now you get a magnum in your left as well and you have extra ammo.

It seems that any single-weapon challenge in Halo 3 is pretty much impossible since there's at least two points in the game where you have to use a different kind of weapon

I love this game.
You can actually destroy the scarab without shooting it yourself. Down the scarab with your marine on the back of a warthog and then drive it to the back and get an angle on the core and the marine will shoot it.

Instead of killing your mates, you could just drop your pistol for another weapon, give it to your mates, then go pick back up your pistol you dropped before ;-;

Does any know there is a triple wield glitch in halos 2 and 3 all you need to do is to have 4 dual wieldable weapons 2 on you and 2 in front of you keep the one you want to triple wield in your off hand then you dual wield with any gun in the second hand and you should be able to replace the gun that you are using with another of the same gun that's in your off hand then just find a third and dual wield that and then you have triple the ammo for the same gun I might try and post how to do it cause this is a long comment

dual-wield gives a damage penalty, figured Id let ya know. Better to use one.
I think the plasma pistol should be allowed in the "pistol" only run. so that scarab should be able to get destroyed
