I shall endeavor to explain how a person born in Russia, received military education there, and upon discharge from the army, completed his studies at the Gnessin Musical College and worked in music production. I am very familiar with and fond of the Russian contribution to European music and literature. Bunin, Nabokov, Rachmaninoff - very different personalities, yet they share one thing - an exceedingly high level of expression, but most importantly, they succeeded. They managed to leave that Russia which would have surely destroyed them.
