The video was a callback to a coming of age movie called Cooley High. The song is a cover of a Roberta Flack hit. Lauryn Hill is an artist worth exploring as well as other hits by the Fugees.
A younger Lauren Hill starred in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg. She plays a troubled Highschool girl who loves to sing and wants to enter a musical contest with the school choir but her mother only wants her to study and keep her grades up. Such a good watch, you should check it out if you haven’t seen it.
This somg was also sung by Roberta Flack in 1973 who discivered the song sung by someone else😂 Maybe thats why Lauryn maybe dressed like she's from another era?. The Fugees version just put a hip hop beat and funk in it
Weekly Top 5! You guys a great! Can we get a Monica week? She's a top selling R&B artist, 40 million albums sold worldwide and still going strong today! She has dueted with Brandy & Keyshia Cole... Definitely time for a Monica week. 😊 1. So Gone 2. Everything To Me 3. Angel of Mine 4. Why I Love You So Much 5. Love All Over Me 6. Until It's Gone 7. It All Belongs To Me ft. Brandy 8. Street Symohony (Bonus) This would be AWESOME!
The lyrics aren't painful. They were originally written about going to a concert by Don McLean (of the American Pie song fame) and being so enraptured by the feelings and emotions his songs were conveying. "Strumming my pain with his fingers" was him playing the guitar and singing about emotions that the songwriter could relate to.
I would say the younger generation knows who the Fugees are and definitely who Lauryn Hill is because in my household Lauryn Hill is me and my girls, which are teenagers, favorite female rapper
This is a cover. The original is from the 1970s and is by a beautiful singer named Roberta Flack. It's a ballad without the hip-hop beat obviously, but is very good on its own.
I don’t really think it is a painful song. It’s more of a song about vulnerability . This is a cover because the song has been around forever, originally sung by Roberta Flack.
@Marco-ns7ih my bad. Never heard her version of the song. And now I'm reading that she wrote it from her personal experience after listening to Don McLean's American Pie song.
You need to react to the 70's version of this song by Roberta Flack. This video is a poor representation of the meaning of the song. Love Lauren Hill!!! Poor representation of the song.
why they gotta go wreck a beautiful song, doesn't this beat come with every cheap ass Eletric organ/piano?, i clicked on this video because i thought the singer was Marcia Hines, she looked like her
omg yall didnt know Lauryn Hill was in The Fugees. bless your hearts
😭😭😭
One of the best rap/singing group
😂😂😂😂😂
Bless their hearts on alot of things 😂
Okay, you guys: you HAVE to do a Lauryn Hill week! You are missing out on her incredible talent!
The video was a callback to a coming of age movie called Cooley High. The song is a cover of a Roberta Flack hit. Lauryn Hill is an artist worth exploring as well as other hits by the Fugees.
Um, yall need to react to “Ready or Not”.
Yessssss please!
You guys do know this is a cover right? It was a cultural phenomenon before Fugees.
The song was covered 3 times
@@erickenneycreative They don't since they didn't even mention it😂

I saw Lauryn sing this live only last month. She’s still got it!
Amazing song. Lauryn vocals are like butter here
The mid-to late 90s. My high school years... Good times... Good music.
It’s time for a Lauryn Hill top 5 she is a legend in hip hop
This somg was also sung by Roberta Flack in 1973 who discivered the song sung by someone else😂 Maybe thats why Lauryn maybe dressed like she's from another era?. The Fugees version just put a hip hop beat and funk in it
Lauryn was subtlety paying tribute to Roberta Flack who used to rock an African during the era when she first sang it.
The Cooley High inspo might also be why the retro style appears
U should listen to Roberta Foack version
I just realized that Fatman Scoop was the guy at the concession stand. RIP Scoop
The song was written after Lori Lieberman watched a performance by Don McLean of the song Empty Chairs
Wait until you guys discover this is a remake.
The Icon, Roberta Flack's version won the Record of the Year Grammy in 1974.
If I'm not mistaken the video was a take on a scene from the 1970's movie Cooley High where there is a fight that breaks out in a movie theater.
Ooouuu “if I ruled the world” next❤
Weekly Top 5! You guys a great! Can we get a Monica week?

You guys have to do a Lauryn Hill top 5! She's incredible! My favorites are Everything is Everything and Doo Wop (That Thing). Great videos too!
Pras had success with my and Ol dirty- ghetto superstar song
Y'all, this is a cover of Roberta Flack's version, which is also a cover.
That bridge is epic! Lauryn Hill is a beast
Queen Chantae! I love Lauryn's voice♥️
My favorite song ❤
I would say the younger generation knows who the Fugees are and definitely who Lauryn Hill is because in my household Lauryn Hill is me and my girls, which are teenagers, favorite female rapper
You have to listen to the entire album "The miseducation of Lauryn Hill". Top ten greatest albums ever made. Its up there next to Thriller. No joke.
The original version of this song is performed by Lori Lieberman in 1971.
Now you need to hear the original by Roberta Flack.
An absolute classic!!!🤩🤩🤩
Roberta Flack heard the original version by Lori Lieberman and covered it.
@ Made me look😂 It was lovely as well. But Roberta Flack’s version was the soundtrack to my childhood and literally touches my soul.
You HAVE to explore Ms.Lauryn
good but i still prefer roberta flack's which was the first hit version, though written (and performed?) by someone else.
They need a “Sister Act” week! Lolol
Yall should check out lauryn son yg marley and skip marley ft h.e.r ❤
I've known this song my whole life. This is a cover. I like it, but I prefer the original. I used to sing the original at karaoke.
The video is a take off of a scene in a movie called Cooley High
This is a cover. The original is from the 1970s and is by a beautiful singer named Roberta Flack. It's a ballad without the hip-hop beat obviously, but is very good on its own.
The original was done by Lori Lieberman, not Roberta Flack.
@Marco-ns7ih Yes, you're right. I completely forgot about that.
She was also married to legend bobby marley son and they have kids
DO EX-FACTOR by Lauryn Hill
Did you have a Lauryn Hill week? maybe you should 😉
been a while since i seen thkis video didn't remember that wyclef swears at us by putting his fingers up the wrong way for his two time.
Lauren Hilll Week!
Hiw does Mike know Wyclef has become a minister but not about him being in this group (Fugees)?😂
He's just referring to the credits at the end of the music video which say what everyone ended up doing.
@calvinkhumalo9780 oh I see😂
I don’t really think it is a painful song. It’s more of a song about vulnerability . This is a cover because the song has been around forever, originally sung by Roberta Flack.
You have to listen to Roberta Flack who originally sang this
Roberta's version is a cover too.
@Marco-ns7ih oh, whoever did sing it originally then was way before my time.
Y'all poor souls
Not "The" Carpenters either. LAURYN HILL!!! How can you not? Okay, lucky you're cute.
Now do Roberta Flack, original version.
Lori Lieberman did the original.
@Marco-ns7ih my bad. Never heard her version of the song. And now I'm reading that she wrote it from her personal experience after listening to Don McLean's American Pie song.
Yall are missing out on so classic hits not knowing anything about the fugees or lauryn hill. The both should get a to 5 week
so you have not heard ready or not by the fugees lol
You need to react to the 70's version of this song by Roberta Flack. This video is a poor representation of the meaning of the song. Love Lauren Hill!!! Poor representation of the song.
Amazed you don’t seem to know the Roberta Flack original. Grrrrrrrrrr….
why they gotta go wreck a beautiful song, doesn't this beat come with every cheap ass Eletric organ/piano?, i clicked on this video because i thought the singer was Marcia Hines, she looked like her
@@iancremmins4727 But it says Fugees in the title of the video
@@deed2157 i didnt know what that referred to, i thought it was the hosts name
@@iancremmins4727 Oh ok😂
