Hello that was an informative video I have a question ❓ I I have installed a balance shaft but after installation, the balance shaft jumped and didn't move. After a lot of try and error, i put two washers between the balance shaft oil pump and frame ladder and I fastened the bolts in the correct order , and everything became okay. Do you think this trick works???
very helpful video friend, i have a headache of a time with these, getting the engine repaired is not difficult but putting the pump back on after cleaning and visual inspection to have no oil pressure is frustrating, im going to look through AEP thoroughly, finding parts, in stock or not, proves difficult on its own for this particular engine. thanks again and ill be checking out your other videos as well
Reading some of the comments I was given the impression that you couldn't just replace the whole oil pump assembly. I was able to find the whole oil pump for 400 dollars. Not sure if this was a recent change but it makes swapping the whole unit a much more cost efficient solution when considering machining costs. Especially when considering the parts on the assembly that are pressed in and cannot be rebuilt.
Is this timing set up is the same for the 2010 and before models? Mine is a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with 4 bolt pattern. When the timing marks aline one shaft is parallel and the other horizontal, is the timing bad it spins freely but both shafts are not aline
It would be nice if you could replace the oil pumps as well. I find it strange those are not available as they are a common part to replace in an overhaul. It seems like if the bearings are scored the oil pump would would be a victim as well.
PSA*** This is not indicative of all models of Kia/Hyundia 2.4 motors. I have a 2015 Sportage with the 2.4 GDi and while the casing of this pump/B-shaft housing is similar, the internals are not. Key differences are, 1. The relief valve on this one is horizontal, mine is vertical. 2. This one has two pump gears, mine has none, but uses the shaft gears to pump the oil. And 3. Oil pickup is center left as pictured here, mine is center front, closest to the timing gear. (No hidden bolt on mine). I got my bearings from AEP at a great price! Cheaper than buying a replacement assembly!
Thank you for the comment Marcel! You are right that there are different versions based on the year make and model of your 2.4L. For anybody not sure what bearings that they need for their assembly please visit our rebuilding page on our website: www.asianengineparts.com/balance-shaft-rebuilding-kia-hyundai-gm-mazda/
I have one question if possible. I have Hyundai Elantra 2014 1 and 8 engine in Doshi Limited. The problem is that when it is cold, there is a knocking sound from the engine, when it warms up, the engine has no sound at its temperature. The oil does not decrease, there is no smoke, it is good. What could be the problem? thanks.
How are you, my friend? I am Zaki Muhammad al-Shennawi. I live in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I have a 2015 Kia Sportage with the same oil pump. I did a complete renewal of the machine twice and the crankshaft was turned, but unfortunately it did not work and the machine hardened until I was sure that the defect was in the oil pump. I will do a renewal of the machine. Again, but this time you will change the oil pump to a new one. Is the pump installed in the make-up in a certain position or to any position, and is the gear of the pump set to open or close the pump?
So this is a balance shaft and Oil pump assembly. It is what creates the oil pressure throughout the engine. Removing it and the balance shaft assembly can lead to catastrophic failure. We recommend using a good core and using our bearings to cheaply rebuild your balance shaft/oil pump assembly. Like we state on our webpage these bearings and this rebuild solution is what many large re- manufactures across the country choose to do.
Some of the engines have the same pumps. They made different versions of the same pump for different engines. If the balance shaft assembly is failed or oil pump is failed then possible there is a knocking noise. Typically low or no oil pressure the engine will run until it locks up or throws a rod/destroys the bearings.

How do you torque the sprocket and keep the timing set? I time the marks, stick a padded screw driver in the counter shafts to keep things from moving . Tighten the sprocket and the timing marks alignment move. There has to be a correct procedure for tightening the toothed sprocket and maintaining the timing marks. The video skips that very important step.
Hi First thanks for your video i am really benefited My question is that oil pump have a manufacturing defect? In my country many of drivers change it to another one which it came with the 2.0L engine because it have along service time. I hope you respond 😊
Hi, Sorry for the delay. We have not seen a manufacturing defect of the oil pump but rather when the engine fails the debris can destroy the balance shaft bearings. If you open your assembly and find that the oil pump gears are extremely worn or damaged then we recommend a new pump.
hello very helpful! Im working on a 2014 santa fe sport 2.4, the oil pump assembly is a little different then this one. I need the bearing for the balance shafts and will be getting from you. I took assembly apart but the oil pump gears or sprokets are not there? How does this thing pick up oil! thanks Kelly
I have a Kia 2008 Rondo with a 4 bolt balance shaft. The teeth on the gears broke off, so the pump is shot. I'm having a hard time finding another 4 bolt pump. Does anyone know if the late 6 bolt pump will fit? I heard that it will and you just don't use the 2 additional bolts, but I don't want to buy one and rebuild it if it won't work. Also does anyone know why the teeth would break off? The oil gets chanced every 5K miles and the engine has 115K.

I am sorry but I am not sure if that is possible. It would depend on how much room you would have between the oil pan and the subframe of the vehicle as well as the front of the engine to access the gear and chain. I would recommend talking with a repair shop for some tips!

Good video on dismantling a completely useless waste of metal, time and engineering! There is absolutely no need for this assembly to exist. It serves no purpose other than to waste metal and create dead weight and more mechanical losses in the engine, What is it balancing? itself? All this engine needs is a simple oil pump about the same capacity as the (two!....) units already inside this thing.
Here in Brazil we are putting the ix35 pump in its place, making an adaptation that eliminates the lack of lubrication.
One last question: what is the torque value needed to secure the sprocket to the pump?
