  • Continuing with the Hyundai / Kia 2.4 short block rebuild video series, I'll demonstrate how to assemble new connecting rods to new pistons followed by the installation of new oil and compression rings. Since the engine block was bored opened by .5mm or .020" (Video of overview: • How To Rebuild Hyundai... ), we purchased and will install oversized pistons and rings. You could perhaps reuse your old connecting rods but may run the risk of having slightly bent rods caused by heat or hydro lock. Also, if the rod bearing contact surfaces are scored or worn, the rod cannot be reused and must be replaced.
    Aftermarket replacement pistons, connecting rods and rings are available from various vendors on Amazon and Ebay. I've had good luck with vendors with high volume sales with good customer feedback.

      Much simpler on the camry 5SFE engine since the block is cast iron.

    Hi, when yuu say front of engine, you refer to the side where timing belt/chain is there NOT on radiator side right. not sure why timeing belt is front and not front of radiator is called front of engine

      Good question. Ask around your local auto parts vendors like NAPA for recommendations.

    when you put oversized piston will not it affect timing,, injector , ECM etc.

      @hardlymovingpro  11 месяцев назад

      Nope. From 87 mm to 87.5 mm is less than 1 % increase in bore diameter.

    Can you reuse the old connecting rods?

    • @hardlymovingpro
      @hardlymovingpro  28 дней назад

      If no spun or worn out rod bearings. When those bearings go bad, a lot of stress is on those rods as they reciprocate on the crankshaft causing huge amounts of stress. This may cause the rod(s) to slightly bend. Also the rod's bearing holder can get worn out / damaged.

      Actually we're not until the crankshaft and pistons are installed in the block.
