Hello Gary C and welcome to my home in the sticks, glad ya stopped by!! Brussels are probably one of the easiest veggies to grow in my opinion!! Thanks for watching and I hope this video will get ya to try and grow some!! Dan
I always loved them, but the ex hated them and the smell when I cook them for me. Been awhile since I ate them, I just started back into them fresh and I canned them up…pickled them! So good!! I’m doing more for sure. Next year I’ll try to grow, but for now I get them at the market….delicious…..😀
Awesome, glad you enjoy my content Jackofalltrades, welcome to our community and the channel, come back and visit when ya can, have a great weekend!! Dan
Man Dan my man you rocked the garden this fall. Those look amazing. I will have a spot for those next fall. Oh and I need to get one of those salad spinner. I’ve never seen that before. I’m ready to get spring planting going.
Heck yeah brother, I'm patiently waiting on spring myself AND i gotta get some Basco seeds out to ya!!!! Thanks for watching brother and that salad spinner is the bomb!! Dan
I tried growing Brussel Sprouts several years ago, when I had a community garden plot where we lived last, but never got anything. We have a short growing season in Utah and they take a long time to mature. I think I just started them too late. Since I'm expanding my garden this year at our home, I'll finally have room to try these again. I plan to start them indoors soon. I just need to check days to maturity and my last frost dates to see when I can get started. My son and I love these and I would love to have a stash of them in the freezer instead of buying them. Oh, and thank you for the idea of using the salad spinner. I need one of those! I freeze all kinds of things that are wet from washing, so this would save me from freezing them on trays first and then bagging them.
Sweet, this is my first time growing them Mrs. Mags and I'm sure enough tickled pink on how they turned out!! I went ahead and harvested them because I didn't want to lose them if we got another sure enough strange cold snap here in the Sip. I hope ya can get ya some BS in the ground this season and yes mam, a salad spinner is a wonderful tool to have in the kitchen!! Thanks for watching mam!! Dan
What what... Huuummmpp Daaaay. I like just about all vegetables, I have not grown accustomed to Brussel stouts yet. I've tried them roasted in the oven and that was the best I've tasted but still not my fav. Can't wait to see what you do with them. I like how you harvested them.
Yes sir Ronnie had to get them jokers out the ground!! Brother I have a butter garlic sauce I cook them Brussels in, Lawd what you saying!! Thanks for watching brother!! Dan
Ok, now that I have calmed down (read previous comment), this is a brilliant video Dan, up there with the "Best of the Best." We use a Foodsaver too and we've learned not to blanch leafy vegatables such as Brussels and cabbage. Even though it may mean shortening the storage life, the water absorbed by the blanching process can cause chaos with the Foodsaver and so it's worth sealing them in as drier state as possible I'm just getting my "Shine" back on, but if you bloody tell me one more time how easy it can be to grow... ah, leave it Willie :-)
Lol, dang Mr William hehe 😂 I haven't blanches my Brussels in years, they just taste better to me without blanching them and I've had pretty good success with vacuum sealing them and popping them in the deep freeze, ate some awhile back from 2015, tasted like I just pulled them off the stem!! Thanks for watching my friend!! Dan
Hey Mrs Liz and welcome to my home in the sticks!! Glad ya gave me a look and subscribed mam!! Always have stuff going on over here and I hope ya come back and visit when ya can!! Dan

That is something that you actually got them to produce heads in your climate. They need cold weather to make those tight heads. They are real cold hardy. I like them but my wife doesn't. Lightly steamed and then some butter and salt is how i like them.
Yes sir Mr Rob, I got them to grow, think I times it right with our temps over here and best believe next fall I'll have a bunch more in the ground!! Steamed with butter and salt works for me too!! Thanks for watching sir!! Dan

So why don't you keep and cook the leaves. I'm told the leaves taste like collard greens. I will planting brussel sprouts this year and I am going to cook the leaves mixed with collard greens. I really hope I'm successful. Every time I try to grow cabbage, the snails get to them. Did you have a problem with cabbage flies or snails on ur brussel sprouts? What did you do to keep pests away?
Thank ya for watching and commenting Sharon Boston, welcome to our community and the channel mam!! 1-2-3... Hmmmm, easy eh? Not so easy my friend. Grrr. Do you know how hard it is for some people to grow Brussels? ...4-5-6... (Count to ten Willie, don't let the gentleman get to you, he's just doing his job). First time? Are you kidding me? LAAAWWD HAVE MERCY! You have got to be pulling my leg, IT"S NOT POSSIBLE!!!! I sent a text to my friend whilst I was watching this saying "If he says EASY one more time I'm gonna #*@@&!* him! At that point you used the word "Easy" one more time! Hmmm. 7-8-9... (Keep counting Willie, don't him get your dander up). ARGGGHH! He got my flippin' dander up! I've been growing stuff for many years but Brussels have never worked for me, not even a little. I am to Brussels what A Little Dirt Never Hurt is to singing. LAAAWWD HAVE MERCY AGAIN! .... 10... Out of 10 my friend, well done on the crop, I hope you enjoy them, I only wish they would allow produce across the border as I would like to be the friend that received your extras. For now I'll spend $6.59 per kilo at the supermarket as that's the only place I can find them. Top job mate :-)
Your friend made me do it Mr William hehehehe!!! Thanks for being a good sport sir, and yes sir, I've never grown Brussels before, actually didn't think they's grow do to my crazy temps here in east central Mississippi.

How did you keep the cabbage worms off of them? My brussel sprouts have been eaten up two years in a row.
Hello Mrs Marcie, welcome to our community and the channel mam!!
Hmmm.

For now I'll spend $6.59 per kilo at the supermarket as that's the only place I can find them. Top job mate :-)
