Kate Bush in "NIGHT OF THE DEMON" (Hounds Of Love)

  • Elements of this 1957 movie (called Curse of the Demon in the US) inspired Kate Bush in the writing of her songs "Hounds of Love," "The Red Shoes" and her short film, The Line, The Cross & The Curve. In this mash-up mini movie/music vid, Kate does battle with the conjurer Karswell...and the evil thing he's conjured too!
Sorry some of the dialog is so low...I will try and fix that for a future posting, but wanted to get this out in time for the appropriate holiday. Enjoy, Lovehounds and Fancies alike...Happy Halloween!
From Robb McCaffree & Bryan Harrison.

Watched this the other night and almost fell off the couch when I heard the guy leading the seance say "It's in the trees. It'd coming!".. Wonder what else she sampled over the years.

Yes, I remember the film well. A good horror tale.
The original film they had planned never to see the actual Demon, however, the studio insisted that it was shown.

For years I have been trying to find this movie as I'd loved it since I saw it as a teen, but I didn't know what it was called. Then, I find it amazingly as part of a tribute to one of my all time favourite tracks by Kate. What a double treat. Thanks very much indeed, you made my day and solved a mystery that's dogged me for years, it never gets shown on TV for some reason!

I was so delighted the first time I saw the video for Hounds of Love. There was Kate invoking one of my favorite movies. ( of course Kate's video, which she directed, also contains scenes from " The 39 Steps ") . This mashup is great. I specially like the Satanists scene " he has been chosen"

Very well done. A mini classic. The original film spooked me when I was a teenager, as you never saw the evil being, it was an malevolent presence, in the breeze, in the woods (especially when it was a sudden spark of light and sinister smoke among the trees at night). Until the end when they spoiled it with a furious furry 50's gonk with large incisors. Still, one of them films you never forget!

The star of Night of the Demon and the voice at the start of the song "Its in the trees- its coming" was Maurice Denham who got a lot of critical acclaim for his role in Purple Plain playing opposite Gregory Peck. Although fans of Porridge will remember him as Judge Rawley. The judge who convicted Fletcher and in a later episode ends up in same cell as Fletch

ShahOfBlahll According to the movie credits, it was Brian Wylde, who screamed it whilst under hypnosis, just before he jumped to his death through a window. Maurice Denham died near the beginning of the movie, with little more than a whimper.
