This Guide was created to help players compete with dedede against experienced opponents. Hope you like it!
You're the first person I've found that actually explains what sharking is, thank you! In future videos if you could explain what you're actually doing (when you combo) and the rationale behind it that would be very helpful. Nice guide.
Hahaha no problem! Most of it is frame traps, i can explain frame trapping in a future video.
Yes I have been playing dedede so much but did not know sharking.
@@SammyJoon I've played Dede since Brawl and I never considered using up air for that purpose.
I think you need to watch Izaw's Art of Dedede, man. He mentioned it in that video.
@@MrKecavis Fake Dedede player then ;P
Decent guide, but you missed a lot of very important things:
1) You didn't mention Inhale at all aside for the Gordo trick at the ledge, while Inhale is pretty important during landing and neutral for beating shields, otherwise you will have to land with bair, nair or tomahawk grab. It's a very crucial move for DDD, but very few DDD players use it
2) You only mentioned ftilt and utilt; while jab is safer than ftilt in most situations (Jab1-2, not the full one) and is faster and has more range. Ftilt is a bit more situational, it's better to use when you have to catch opponents at the ledge or when they land because of the move's long duration. But in most situations jab1/2 is better than ftilt
You could have also talked about dtilt; which is his "get off me" move
Aso you missed his smash attacks
3) You only mentioned Gordos for ledge traps, but they have far more applications. You could use them for covering landings from below with a DGordo, sniping offstage, the stick, covering platforms, their applications in neutral etc
Also talking about the various ground and air directions, how people will counterplay them, how you should reflect Gordos etc. woulad have been a lot nicer.
4) Speaking of traps, you barely talked about DDD's edgeguarding, but it's the most important thing about the character. There is a lot more than just throwing an UGordo and throw ftilts that never kill, mentioning the most useful moves for ledge trapping, which option they cover, how much you should trap with Gordos etc, Jet Hammer applications etc.
Dash attack for example is amazing at covering 2-frames, but his aerials are good for edgeguarding too, especially fair. Depending on the opponent's character, you should do different things, you could have mentioned some important MUs.
5) You barely talked about how to use his aerials, especially his bair since is his best one overall (But fair and nair applications are important too
6) DDD has dthrow fair until 70%, and dthrow nair is better than upsmash at low%. After 70% fthrow and bthrow are his main throws for launching people offstage
7) You should not shark upair every single time. It's a mixup, but smart players will adapt to it and kill you at 50% afterwards. DDD's getup options are pretty bad, mixing them up is important
make a guide man or point me in the direction of more info like this
Damn thanks for this man lol
Forgot the d tilt to laying down. Best combo to send your opponent into uncontrollable confusion
I personally prefer d smash over f tilt for ledgetrapping, I only ever use f tilt when I want to condition them to shield at ledge so I can get a shield break with gordo>f smash.
Tip: King Dedede’s down b can reach the ledge, you can take someone’s stock at around 40-60%.
You have to wait for it to fully charge tho, plus his dash attack also reaches the ledge as well
I have killed countless players with dedede´s jet hammer on the ledge. I think many people don´t know that it can reach the ledge and hang too long on it, as dedede aproaches with a fully loaded hammer.
It's Marley Yeah but dash attack is super slow so everyone can see it coming & you can roll away from ledge. Down-b however, can be used to cover every option. If they let go, double jump & try to attack, you can simply jump backwards with down-b, (YOU NEED TO ALSO TRY IT IN OTHER SCENARIOS, IT’S SUPER HELPFUL) drift toward them & once you land, let the 🅱️ go. You basically avoid their attack & hit them by going toward them. Unless they have a projectile that can hit from that high, then jumping from ledge is basically just free damage because if they go in, armor will dededelete them & if they go back to ledge, same thing happens. Rolling is an easy way to get away from it but it’s very predictable & most of the time, they will choose that option cause the panic from down-b. Just getting up & immediately shielding the attack is the easiest way to escape without trusty projectiles but also the riskiest. If it’s fully charged, then it’s a death sentence for many & you can roll away safely that way cause there’s basically 1 frame in vulnerability while getting up ledge & then shielding. Projectiles after let go double-jump from ledge is the easiest way to escape in actuality, you can get hit & down-b will be cancelled. Sharking isn’t that good as you can just backwards while holding escape while charging except if it’s a Ditto Match against Dedede’s up-air. (He will attack again with the multiple jumps.) Of course, there are special cases which make avoiding it easier like Dedede up-b from ledge to the stage which can hit you but again, just jump backwards when he right before he hits then hit him when he lands. (You land when the stars are gone) Terry down-b is also same. Any move that goes up then down is different but I trust you can counter them except for Hero’s zoom cause that’s damn near impossible. See you later, hope you have a great day.
TL;DR Down-B is better at covering options & is way better than dash attack. If you play those Mario & Luigi RPGS, then using Dedede’s down-b is a more complicated version at dodging & countering.
It's Marley R.I.P. Alpha Dream
As a King Dedede main, I thank you for those tips, now it is a matter of time to fight skillfully and witty
Damnitguy no problem!
Pretty much
The jet hammer is necessary it’s what makes or break top tier reads
loll i guesso
Jet hammer sweeps below the ledge, allowing a really good edge guard if your opponent is trying to make a recovery onto the ledge from down low like Dedede
Yeah you might actually be surprised how good that move actually is if you try it.
That may be true, but because it unlocks his top tier potential, it probably deserves an in-depth hour-long video, if not longer!
Has superarmor when fully charged but sssshhh not everyone knows this
thanks, im terrible at everything and needed this
I need a better acccount name hahahah glad I could help
What about Fsmash shield breaking, it covers a very long distance and stops running shield approaches by using while retreating.
Another thing that I would like to see is Dedede edgeguarding, as you said, Dedede can recover from very low, which makes him a real threat offstage. Fast fall f-air can cover a lot of space, gordo sniping and reverse inhale to mess up some recoveries by spitting them below the stage, also nair to stop any character without hitbox on their recovery by doing it as close to the ledge as posible.
Jonathan Iracheta these are all great. I do them a lot while streaming. In this video I just wanted to focus on easy things that don’t require so much hand speed and experience to make newer players compete better.
Forward smash after gordo always breaks it, and I love it.
F smash is so strong it's like a but slower then ikes tho but it is great if u can get the opponent shield that.low just whale on them with gordos and fairs
I just labbed this one out a bit more today, and I think that maybe if done at like 0% go downthrow->walk slightly forward->turnaround buffered uptilt (uptilt starts behind him)-> rising nair allows for a mixup followup like fair/bair, f-tilt, suck (neutral B), another uptilt. FYI fast-falling recommended if going for grounded options.
PSA: *DON'T do the same thing every time you recover*. As a high-level Dedede myself, it's good to mix things up
Remember that you’re vulnerable near the top of your recovery. Avoid recovering really low if your opponent is trying to time an edge guard, use that super armour
There’s also a good combo where you short hop over the character then neutral air then as soon as you hit the ground repeat. Then once it gets to around 60-70% just combo it into a back air and it will kill. It’s very difficult to pull off but it is very good and not as situational as you might think. Also up-throw is better followed up with a neutral air and then a side air and spiney
It’s kind of cool that I knew how to do all of this on my first day trying out Dedede. Well, maybe except for the ledge trap but everything else was learned just by going online a bunch
Down throw to nair is decent because you can follow up with up tilt at low percents and always in an advantage state
You can also follow up the down throw with a forward aerial into higher percents
Ethanman j yes! He’s so fun
Nair and uair too
Great video, I learned a few things! One thing I wanna add that I think is a great finisher and you forgot to mention is down B. I’ve been having lots of fun with this guy and his down B is awesome when you save it for last. What I like to do is down B the opposite direction of the opponent, what this does is lure them into thinking you fucked up when really you have very fast turn around and can hammer them when they rush you. His down B is awesome because it has very little start up time and if you pull off this trick you’ll have been full charged by the time you turn around. You can also jump with it which makes it more deadly if the try to arial you while rushing.
Gabriel Perez ya man, follow my twitch stream! I do exactly that move a lot now. Hope to see you on there tomorrow night
Another thing i noticed is that his down b now has super armor if someone hits u as ur swinging it. Another reason he is perfect.
Thanks, this helped me in the two areas I was struggling!
Not allot of people are doing Dedede guides
Mad Knux No problem. Glad I could help
Thanks man. I love dedede and Ridley as well. I hope/plan on getting better with both characters
Beukes no problemoo
Thx dude! In fact I was just playing this game with my friends and I DESTROYED THEM
Eduardo Espinoza hahahah great job! Glad I could help
And btw if you go near the ledge and they start walking back, dont shark cause it wont really work you want to get to stage as soon as possible in that situation
He has dthrow to fair and back air although they are di dependant so you should read di
Dthrow fair is more consistant
Fthrow is his kill throw
Up tilt is one of your fastest moves and kills too
Also take in mind that dsmash is a good ledgetrap option combined with gordo throw
It catches roll jump and normal get up
From one ddd main to another. A good down throw combo that can be used at low percentages is down throw up tilt to nuetral air.
yeh its a favorite of mine. Feels so nice when pulling it off
I like that one too!
I just labbed that one out a bit more today, and I think that maybe if done at like 0% go downthrow->walk slightly forward->turnaround buffered uptilt (uptilt starts behind him)-> rising nair allows for a mixup followup like fair/bair, f-tilt, suck (neutral B), another uptilt.
as a new D3 main, i officially love this comment thread. thank you, you wonderful people. i shall use this to clobbah everyone i come across
Oh my god thank you so much I’ve been wanting to pick up and possibly main DDD but I was never really any good at it but thanks to you I may actually be able to
Complete Madness of course! Glad I could help!
Great video, thanks!
1nnervision no problem!
Nice video. You can use that up throw combo with a down throw if their at a high enough percentage.
Electric Red Thunder interesting. I’ll try it
This video is the push I needed to ascend to god! Thank you, this is a very useful; although I'd love a video about his combos too.
Joey Richardson thanks man! Some online combos mid-game are coming tn!
Great video, would love to see some more on DDD!
Alide thank you! It’s coming
You should have brought up the b-reverse combos as well, hes got some nasty stuff you can do with gordos that way.
jeremiah robinson ahh you’re right
Dedede is really great in Ultimate!
It's funny, seeing some opponents getting way worse, when you taunt them after killing them!
Louis Hain hahaha pressing crouch is required with Dedede after kills
dedede sucks in ultimate, we play him cause hes fun
MY BOY GETIN SUM LUV!!!!!
Wow this was actually great
Cameron Brown thank you sir. Glad to help!
Wow good guide thanks
Golden Magikarp5 thank you sir
DDD tip #1: always duck after getting a kill
Egor Bratukhin hahahahha
As a Dedede main, I approve
Also if you see the habit of normal get up spaced fsmash would do the job and it will either kill or break a shield so you should use it too
Thanks so much man! :)
Commandant Bushbaby glad I could help
Considered me subscribed! Great info and right to the point, just how I like it
Thank You!
Keep up the good fight my fellow Kings!
Subbed for some great D3 content.
Guuppa thanks!
you may also be able to use a down throw into an uptilt and then an up aerial
Thanks for explaining The greatest D
mc maukku glad I could help
King dedede for life
You can also do D-throw to fair for a quick 18-19%.
not reliable.
Ive been messing around with ddd as a secondary, and up throw to up air is way more optimal. The main reason being, if you do the down throw to fair at lower percents, the fair doesnt send your opponent far enough away for you to be safe, and you can get punished easily. Ddd's juggle game is good and can be abused better out of the upthrow uair combo for more consistent damage
@@benjaminbowers5557 I know it's more optimal, but I'm just throwing out another option that can be used at low to mid %s.
Yeah and thats all fine and dandy, but if you do it at low percents youll get punished, the fair doesnt send them far enough away
@@benjaminbowers5557 I know that, I'm just saying you CAN use it as an option. CAN doesn't mean SHOULD.
Love the video!
Try to fix your audio echo on twitch though if you can. Really distracting.
Keep the awesome content coming!
Jonathan Siek thanks man, I think it was echoing for the beginning of one broadcast, or every time I played music. But it should be good from now on!
Thank you so much for the video! Also, what is the music in the first part?
I Thank You So Much, I Really Need To Learn New Moves As King.Dedede
And Thanks To Your Video Im A Lot Better Than The Other Kids At School,
Most Of Them Get Mad At Me But Some Respect Me, And Others Accuse Me For Spamming Or Being A Try-Hard
😰
I Really Thank You For This Guide And I Wish I Could’ve Hugged You Or Something But Overall... THANK YOU!!!
HulkCrash10 lmaoooo this made me smile. Glad I could help
Mû ____ THANK YOU!!❤️❤️😭
Nice guide!
Joy thanks!
Great guide
STOP YEZBONER thank you!
Tip if youre getting juggled use aerial a you will plop back down
Super helpful thanks
Pyras Terran glad you enjoyed!
No d3 guide is complete without talking about the best taunt in the game
Bryan Park hahahah
Thanks, my guy. This was really helpful.
Sub for quality content. I agree I would like some of the skill showcase clips to be broken down play by play. How you got to that point through mind games and conditioning.
Hey thanks for the tips I'm going to enter the Smash ultimate NA open with king dedede. Wish me luck
Great tips! Thanks!
Is this a Dedede player? Subbed. Dedede is my boi. My main. My fucken PICK dude I LOVE this dopey penguin KING. he is Regal
kimplin yessir. Follow my twitch! You’ll know exactly when I’m playing Dedede live against pros!
@@SammyJoon you bet!
King Deedles is the greatest!
Hes so fun!
@@SammyJoon I know I mained him in Smash 4 and he's even better in Smash Ultimate I'm so hyped for him I'm going to make bowling ball sized Gordo in real life with rubber spikes and everything. I really want to make it but I need advice how to go about doing it :(
How does your side B move so slow? Is there any way I can choose whether or not to throw it fast or slow?
Bish What? When u press side-B, you can choose to throw it fast or slow depending on the way u rotate your stick after. Test it in training you’ll get it.
If you hold to the side when you do your side b, Gordo bounces low and far. If you push the stick up after entering the side b, Gordo bounces high and close. If you push the stick down after entering the side b, you get a bounce/distance between the other two.
Jumping before sending out a Gordo gives you more distance and more bounce height, as the Gordo always bounces 3 times before disappearing. You can also use the high, close Gordo bounce and then hit b to suck up the Gordo and spit it with increased speed and damage.
works the same way as in smash 4
ruclips.net/video/ZOL7WhWA5iU/видео.html
Ok all is good but dont try to shark EVERY time you recover up air is a verry laggie move and a character like marth can linger at the edge jump off ledge when you try to shark fast fall and hit you with back air fair or nair thats a dead dedede unless your confident in your teching skills
I miss the chain grab from Brawl
Shane Hale lolll
Very basic but very good thanks.
I've seen some videos that you can hit up-tilt to angle your side-b and it's a little different than holding up for side-B. It' goes slightly further I think (so you can stay positioned for a forward smash to catch the roll while it covers ledge).
Also, if someone is mashing out of your inhale, and you have a buffered up-tilt, the up-tilt will hit them (can be a kill confirm). I can't pull it off reliably against a level 3 AI (maybe it's avoidable if you jump?).
I learned these from D3nsity_'s videos:
ruclips.net/video/FzyFWQ1UnOA/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/vWtqrVV3WkE/видео.html
Thanks
Wait, why does the down throw miss at lower percents? Don't most grab combos stop at higher percents?
BeelzebubTerror what I was saying was, it starts missing much earlier. For most opposing characters, you can only do it at 0%
Who are the best DDD players on ultimate? Really curious to learn from high level gameplay after getting demolished on a tournament
Person Man I’m going to try and record my tournament when I go to one. This’ll help my viewers see how to effectively play in tournaments. Thanks for your continued support!
By biggest issue with DEDEDE is when you play against characters who are fast as living fuck. Go9damn I can't punish anything xD
I know they're slow moves but sometimes I just like getting kills with the jet hammer or getting the enemy off of me with down smash, because it's the fastest smash attack (I think).
are these good in any situation? should I try not to use them?
Noosh Stuff down smash is great! Run and down smash. Jet hammer is more of a troll move lol. I try it now and then to see if there’s any viability.
Jet Hammer only works if you turn or jump 3 times before letting go.
As an added note, I know it's more of a troll move, but it's got that small amount of super armor that gives it a lot of priority with good timing, so maybe it can see use in niche situations.
@@nooshstuff Youre probably right.
It definitely can be. You can jump away from your opponent and then fast fall I to down b and quick turn to tank rush attacks easy. Use it on prediction to tank hits for easy smashes. Also you can use it after you 2nd jab, not as much as a combo as to guard yourself and make your last hit have extra range if you miss your jabs.
And then yes you can troll with it when your are high damage because it wont hurt you any more to hold the charge. Turn back n forth and jump to try to get a read on them, either for the kill or for the shield break
I've found the most viable time to use jet hammer is to challenge other heavies since it has super armor now. Say you're fighting a DK that throws out a ton of back airs, the jet hammer can easily trade with it if you can read them, where d3 sort of struggles in that space right in front and above him. It is a troll move but under circumstances it's a viable way to counter certain playstyles now that it has armor. It's basically a portable f-smash with armor now so it does find some use after you've conditioned most players. I imagine we'll see some great jank in the coming months with that move
How do I deal with SKILLED projectile spammers? I can deal with newbies spamming Toon Link’s projectiles fairly well.
However, today I got absolutely BODIED by a pretty good Samus. I couldn’t approach, he used dash attack on ground combined with missiles. I couldn’t use Gordo, he always shielded/knocked it back at me. I couldn’t approach from air, he could knock me out of it incredibly quickly. And I couldn’t inhale his projectiles and spit them back at him, he always had three coming at once that hit me if I inhaled one/ had a charged shot that’d kill me while I was inhaling the missiles.
What’s a viable option for a scenario like this?
CommandoPander it’s dededes hardest matchup. I’m considering picking another character to deal with projectile spammers
Mû ____ What’s the best character to deal with them aside from Fox? I don’t know what it is, but I CANNOT get a single win as Fox, feels like crap to play as him.
*TELL ME, I MUST MAKE EVERY PK FIRE NESS SUFFER.*
CommandoPander sir I don’t exactly know. But the best characters to stop projectiles would have fast running and fast dash attacks that reach far.
2:15 you mean higher procents
Remzzy boi whoopsie
“Dedede is good at racking up damage but HE HAS A HARD TIME KILLING...” COME AGAIN?! You meant “Diddy” right?... :P
What kind of heavy has a hard time killing? DEDEDE buff plz
AceTriggerz lol the best I’ve found is to throw a Gordo and follow it with Dedede to cover the opponents other options. I get most of my kills with that. But very often my opponents live to 190 lol
@@SammyJoon So far I've had to cheese with jet hammer, not everyone knows it has armour on it, so ill set it up and smack em as a trump card.
HOW DO YOU DO THAT ROLL ATTACK MOVE?
What about the Gordo Stick?
Tohg7. I personally do not like to do that too much. I opt to keep my gordos ready for option covering.
very situational.
Tips for the Kirby matchup?
CusterDawg tilts all day. Kirby can’t get in
Kirby struggles against anyone with larger hit boxes than Kirby, anyone with projectiles, and especially anyone with both.
Needless to say, Kirby struggles often.
Hmm. Not been the experience ive seen in elite smash. The Kirby mains there are something else.
@@jacobmaruth3598 In other words, Dedede Clobbahs that there Kirby
You just have to clobbah him
Good stuff. But why do you sound so deadpan?
Zack E. Hahah looking for a good quality microphone to use rather than my gaming headset. That should make things better.
@@SammyJoon I figured it was the mic. Here's to more great videos in the future! 🍻
DOWN SPECIAL????
can i figth again you?
He just needs a huge nerf damn it 😑
What about down throw fair?
Lucas it does less damage.
Mû ____ I agree but I’ve found down throw fair to be much more consistent than both of his other throws. Could just be me but I find fair to cover a wider % range in general. I’ll have to go back and check tho
Lucas i noticed that I tend to use down throw fair. You’re right that it is more consistent. When I’m nervous it’s the go to combo.
Mû ____ I just checked the combo chart in the dedede discord. Apparently down throw fair is good at higher %s and down throw nair as actually the most safe option on low %s with up throw up air best somewhere in between. They said up smash is a good option against characters like DK who don’t have anything safe on hit. The more you know I guess. Of course these combos aren’t law by any means and you’re gonna want to go with whatever gets you the most wins but it’s good to know all the options I guess. I’m definitely gonna start using up smash more tho because that damage is too good to pass up.
pretty nice but i think the music is a little too loud and u maybe spend too much time showing clips for each thing
Off-stage edgeguarding has been my go to so far with D3 but I haven't really labbed much. Do you think his onstage kind of ledge trapping is more effective?
Joe O you have to do both. Racking up damage is very easy with ledge trapping. Mix in an off stage f-air every now and then to get the easy gimp.
I think it's good to mix it up.
Thanks for replies using this as part of my mixup really helped and it racks up a lot of dmg and gsp
Edit: elite smash with d3 now
You gotta go for some stylish dair spikes, bair/fair stage spikes, and the BEST, MOST stylish of kill setups: the (sometimes gordo assisted) ass smash/crash (Super Dedede Jump spike where you spike them offstage to death but hit up in time to grab the ledge)! Once you've mastered the ass smash/crash, you're ready to end some careers! :D
