    Yea but people from the island is a completely different culture than those who have assimilated to the American culture. Not really assimilated, but carved out a completely new culture. This cannot be denied. Two different life experiences. That's goes for any culture that has put their roots into the mainland, people in the old country are just different. Italian, Irish, Chinese, even "white". Look how different white Americans are from their old country, the UK. It's just the way it is. It's a new people. America will slice you open and drain the old country right out of you.

Meaning that someone in your ancestry had sexual intercourse with a Spaniard or a Taino or both mixed to have made you of a mix of three races...African, Spaniard and Taino Indian. Not really true. As a Puerto Rican my DNA test results came out as I expected. Majority Iberian Spanish with minimal admixture of African and native. I take admiration of my Taino admixture but let’s face it my 16% is not significant nor is my 9% black when practically 70% of my makeup is European.

      Thank you for that info. It’s very hard to find PRicans with your points of view in a nationality that has been so brainwashed into Afrocentrism. The Jim Crow mindset of race identification has destroyed many stateside folks of PRican decent that choose to keep company with Aframs. Aframs have dictated to Boricuas that race is more important than culture.

    As an Afro Nuyorican now living in Washington, DC., I am very proud of my Puerto Rican heritage. However, Puerto Ricans on the island always reminded me during the visits to the island, I am a Nuyorican because I speak Spanglish. 😀 😃 😄 😁 Let me also say, when I was at Georgetown University in the mid 80's, the Puerto Rican students from the island were white and wealthy. Some were racist looking down on Afro Boricuas and Nuyoricans. Santurce and Carolina all day and everyday.

    • @robertodelrio0797
      @robertodelrio0797 Год назад

      Now afro nuyorican, seriously? It's like your regurgitating the same BS that black Americans do they refer to himself as black American rather than seeing that their American. Why can you just say that you are nuyorican?
      You don't see other people of Puerto Rican descent sang I am a white Puerto Rican, I am a Taino Puerto Rican, or mixed race Puerto Ricans.
      You so-called afro descendants really make me sick sometimes, cuz whenever you add a-to your nationality or ethnicity you are no longer fully part of that ethnicity or culture because you added something else to the culture that was not there.

    I'm reading so many disrespectful comments here. This is supposed to be a celebration of our Puerto Rican heritage, our culture, not a dog fight to see who could spit out the nastiest most offensive comment.
    Whatever you are, however you feel, celebrate it with pride and let each person do the same. No need to be disrespectful, show you have class and show you're an educated person. Let us never forget education has absolutely nothing to do with school.
    Education is what your elders teach you at home before going to school. How you carry yourself as a person, how you treat others. That's what education really is.
    You can have 10 master degrees from the best colleges anywhere in the world and still be uneducated.
    By the same token you could be an illiterate, a person who never learned how to read and write bc never had the opportunity to go to school like my father for instance and still be very educated.
    My father grew up at a time in which hardly 30% of the population in Puerto Rico was able to go to school so he was part of the vast majority that didn't and yet my grandparents instilled in him the need to be respectful of others.
    Yo soy boricua pa que tu lo sepas.

      joeblowmha That's not what I heard here in the states. It has been informed that a large percentage of Puerto Ricans of P.R. want to be the 51st state of the United States. And that is what the ballot shows. Now its up to Congress to decide if they want to do this. They also informed all those that like in America...that Puerto Rico is anxious to know if they will be allowed to be a part of the United States Of America. As they know P.R. is going bankrupt and fast. Just fyi.
      Good luck my people and may God Bless Puerto Rico as everything happens for a reason.

      Joe...they already have it...the Bronx and J-Low's ass is the president of it.
      Reality is that MOST of us want US Statehood.
      We have served in WW1, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War and Iraqi Wars and have paid in blood for the right to be FINALLY a state.
      Think about this...Puerto Rico is a "commonwealth" of the US, just like Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia, but they are States and even since 1898 when the US stole us from Spain, we are STILL NOT A STATE.
      Does that seem right?

      Yo soy nacido, criado y residente de Puerto Rico. Y a mí tampoco me representan los cafres. No sé si es una cuestión racial, pero ni la Salsa ni el Reggaetón, ni el tipo de ridiculeces que se ven en el vídeo me representan. Me siento identificado con La Secta All Star, Fiel a la Vega, Chayanne o Kanny García. Me identifican mis raíces europeas y españolas. Toda esa 💩 de tambores tribales y marginales meneando el fondillo es algo con lo que no encajo. Puerto Rico no son solo mestizos, peleas de gallos y vulgaridad. Puerto Rico es multicultural aunque los medios de comunicación traten de asfixiar todo lo que no sea "calle".

      Ivan...I am born and raised in Puerto Rico and have lived in the US for MANY years and because my family is white (Basque, Corsican, Canary Islander, Irish, French and German), we were told by Nuyoricans that we were not "really" Puerto Ricans.
      This is what happens when idiot ricans have allowed themselves to be shamed out of their undeniable European background in the black ghettos....just look at them...with the asses hanging out of their pants and pieces of OUR flag as a "trapo" on their greasy heads...un GRAN BOCHORNO....like my Corsican grandfather used to say....
      "mi'jo cuando el hombre pierde la verguenza, no hay NADIE que se la devuela"
      Ghetto-ricans are completely identity-raped, culturally-hi-jacked and history-robbed...they think that the Bronx is the capitol of Puerto Rico and J-Low's ass is the mayor of San Juan.
      When I would encounter Nuyoricans bragging about being black (but the "just look white"), I would remind them of the following:
      * EUROPEAN language legacy (Spanish & English)
      ...(no one speaks Taino Talk or Zulu or Chupacabra-speak)
      * EUROPEAN legal matrix
      ...(Napoleonic legal tradition, like in Louisiana, USA and in France)
      * EUROPEAN marriage tradition of consent
      ...(no trading of child virgins for cheetah skins or elephant tusks)
      * EUROPEAN marriage dissolution
      ...(divorce, not stoning ex-wife to death or feeding her to lions)
      * EUROPEAN city design
      ...(all 77 towns designed around central Mediterranean plaza built by Europeans)
      * EUROPEAN entrepreneurial tradition
      ...(no trading of shrunken heads or bone necklaces for bananas)
      * EUROPEAN inheritance tradition
      ...(upon death, property goes to family, NOT to invading warriors)
      * EUROPEAN tradition of vestiture (clothing)
      ...(no one wears loin cloths or grass-skirts or turbans or tribal head-dress)
      * EUROPEAN banking tradition
      ...(amassing currency, no trading Indian beads like Manhattan Island was centuries ago)
      * EUROPEAN mercantile trading tradition with hard currency in exchange
      ...(no trading Cheetah skins for mangos or wooden beads)
      * EUROPEAN tradition of housing
      ...(no one lives in caves or huts or trees)
      *EUROPEAN architectural tradition
      ...(no one lives stone or coconut huts)
      ***EUROPEAN primo-geniture sibling order observation
      ...(oldest son inherits estate followed by next son and so on...)
      ***EUROPEAN tradition of recording history in empirical collections
      ...(no one is scratchin history on cave walls or trees or pieces of animal skin)
      ***EUROPEAN tradition of journalism and news dissemination
      ...(no one is screaming from mountain tops, yodeling or beating war drums)
      European traditions DO exist in Puerto Rico, you just have to get past the coconut shell, Hula-Hula dancing "Porto-Rican" dolls at the airport gift shop and the Black-faced Grass-skirted dolls sold in the tacky gift-shops at the Marriott hotels.
