THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Michael, I've learned a great deal from your videos. One question: I know that white spirit and Liquin both speed drying and improve flow. How do you decide which to use when?
that's just fabulous...what medium are you using?
Thank you for helping me forget all my worries for awhile. I really enjoy watching you work.
Michael, thanks for answering in the video my question about the brush you're using for the glaze, it was really helpful!
Olá sou do Brazil...qual a marca ou as especificações dessas tintas que Você usa?
Hello Michael, exceptional as all your videos i joined to your new site I look whit emotion the opening, regards
Subtitule in espain??
Impressionante a sua forma de pintar, parabéns!
gostaria de saber qual material você usa nas suas telas. abraço.
Hello Michael, it´s brillant. But I miss the meadow on the left side in #81.
Hi, my friend, I admire your work, I have a question, I have the problem, that all the greens stick to me and when I realize everything is the same color. That you advise me. Thank you from Costa Rica
***** ... The stippling strokes you did ...really wonderful..perfect texture...achieving realistic leaves...you have great observation of how the leaves are arranged on each tree...the use of layers and darks to lights....gives such dimension...great balance between light and texture...absolutely gorgeous...your control over the paint ... truly masterful draftsmanship....and literally perfect color mixing the textures.. shadows...lighting effects ...absolutely gorgeous realistic tree...thank you for explaining in detail throughout...very helpful..and appreciated...
God dammit Michael!
Stop impressing me like that! That was one of your most beautiful trees, and I watch your channel since video #004 hahaha
You doing this for showing to us makes you give your best, thats clear. Must be one of the main reasons to keep this stream of fabulous videos coming.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for telling me repeatedly carefully for over a year. Like last time, closeup of this time is also very helpful. I think that there are various techniques, but the pen pressure between the brush and the screen is a truly subtle bargaining. I feel the breadth and depth of Michael's technique.
I want to know about tablet. How do you hank it for see picture(subject) ?
Let me start by saying I thoroughly enjoy your videos. You have a nice, clean and pleasant style. I'm really interested in seeing an interpretation by Michael James Smith. Your technique is beyond reproach, but, what am I trying to say? I want to look at a painting and know who the artist is, rather than how well he can render a photograph onto canvas.
your great. learned better than my art teacher. which I won't be going to anymore.
Hello I Mazen from Iraq I love drawing and I'm learning a lot from you Thank you my friend
James's compositions/tones/brush stokes compared to the type of painting encouraged on Channel 4 Landscape artist of the year - which are arresting/surprising but not restful. Which type of painting would I want to live with in a sitting room for a period of time - James of course!
Thank you for your lesson. So, can you talk to me know that what kind of brush when you use it to paint small leaves of the big tree? (round head or flat head) Hope your answer. :)))
Thank you for all you have shared with us. A treasure of information.
Hello Michael, got you message, thanks, have a top shelf on me, and get the most expensive one you can find. I have more money than time. Francesco
do you put thinner on your first layer or just liquin?
Thank you for your video very very nice and impressing !
Hello How thin the paint for painting of details
excelentes vídeos ...
what kind of thinner do you use for making leaves.
Thank you so much for making your videos available here. They are excellent. I would like to know which substrate you use as a canvas.
After you stippled on the dark shade, and then you started stifling the lighter shade where you were talkin, what mixture of paint did you use for the medium shade of green?
That's fantastic, and I agree that the extra time and effort for that tree was really worth it! Thanks for sharing, I learned a lot!
You are so talented. I loved the video, it has been very inspiring. I will continue to watch and hopefully be able to learn some of these techniques ! Thank you for taking the time to teach! Also, since I just started watching your video's...what is that neat little board you rest your hand on? It looks to be quite helpful.
OMG I am sooo excited about your website announcment about the instruction videos!
Que Lindo pintas!!
do you know if i can paint a brand logo in one of my paintings? im painting a picture of someone in calvin klein underwear, am is it okay to paint their logo on?
I Love your painting 😍
I tried white spirits for the first time this evening and in addition to a sharper line, I found that the coverage of the lighter color is better as well. When I used an oil based medium for the lighter color, it tended to muddy up.
hi smith i can draw a much like you and im 12 years old
hi Michael I just want to know have you gone over the back trees with a pale glaze it looks misty. great paintings by the way amazing
it's amazing to watch you work and we learn so much by watching and listening. I know you call these "somewhat" realistic paintings... Will you be showing us what one of your hyper real paintings look like in comparison? I can't even start to imagine how they could get more photo realistic. Your talent is such a joy to watch! Keep up the great work Michael.
Bonjour Michael
je peins depuis quel mois et vous m'avez donnez l'inspiration, votre art est excellent le détail des paysages l'eau, les arbres, les feuilles , les herbes, l'hivers, la nature dans toute sa splendeur, merci encore
I am so amazed. I had just seen your work for the first time this week and fell in love. Anyway I was having trouble in the studio with my own work and came here to look for someone painting in detail and you were what came up. Had been hoping you might have something but I never really expected to see you at work . I am so happy !
Thanks MJS! You're the man...Who would thumb down this video?
JAMES!
How can you put one color on the other without them mixing too much? When I try to paint a light color over a dark one the light one soon becomes dark and I can not get the contrast effect.
Did you paint the dark part on acrylic to dry fast and the clear on top without problem? Or do you use something for the paint to dry faster? Or what?
Please is a serious question. If you can aswear me.
thx
Thank you Mr Smith. This was so very helpful to me. I appreciate your generosity on taking your time to make these excellent and helpful videos.
Dude why are you not RUclips famous!?!?
Very Nice!
Sem palavras para seus pincéis mágicos, encantado aqui. SP- Brasil.
This video is great!! I love the instruction in real time. I've signed up for updates and can't wait until you have your other videos for purchase. That tree is beautiful.
Superb. I tell you what Michael. I’ll send you all my scanky brushes in exchange for your nice new ones lol. I know what you mean though, you can get some interesting effects. In fact I sometimes take a new brush and snip it about a bit. Wonderful work mate as always. Thanks for sharing.
Here in the U.S. the trees don't have foliage right down to ground level. They have bare trunks for some distance above the ground before the foliage begins.
Thanks, nice job
To everyone peopel who ca'nt speak english Pls stopp writting stupit commments!!!!....

Is there a direction you follow while painting leaves? (similar to what wildlife artists tell you while do fur?)

Cool.. I'm thinking of trying oil painting.. I mostly do Charcoal and graphite. Smooth going..:) Keep up to good work man..
Hi Michael, for your distant trees, are you putting a glaze over that to soften, and lighten the color?
Dank you nice job :)
Hola maestro que tal , soy un seguidor de su trabajo me parece fascinante su técnica. Solo quería preguntarle si habría alguna posibilidad de que hiciera alguno de sus vídeos en Español. Un gran saludo.
what's that ruler or wood thing? how to you keep that from messing up the painting? Super cool. I actually watch your videos and then go to art class and try to do what you did. My work always gets compliments even though I'm just copying what you said to do. LOVE your (work) vids, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Michael. I love your video lessons. Wow. Such detail but beautiful work. Just one question. You mention that your glaze layer is painted over with a turpentine layer....I didn't know that was possible, but I'm probably mixing it up with fat over lean which is probably just the oil content. Would you mind clarifying if you have time. Thanks again.
Thanks!
Just a quick question for an amazing artist; when you trash your brushes on a grinder, as mentioned in earlier videos, do you use a bench or angle grinder, please? I want to age some brushes due to mine all being new because I haven't been able to paint for years due to health issues. Thanks for all the great tutorials etc. I'm really looking forwards to your new website.
If your video introduces the next color on the palette, it will be easier to understand
Fantastic as usual.

Hi Michael! You say you used Liquin with the darker areas.... What would be a replacement for this, if we don't find Liquin? What type of product is it? Is it for Oils? (sorry in South Africa we don't find Liquin)
