I want a wild crow that says "fuck you". I mean having a parrot that says that is one thing, but having one sweep down upon an enemy, only to land close by and scream "FUCK YOU" would be more priceless than a MasterCard commercial.

One thing I've found with a couple different birds in my area (such as cardinals and crows) is that if you repeat their call to them and there is no other bird of the same species around you can actually have a "conversation" with the birds. And especially with cardinals, they will change their song and see if you can repeat it. Conversations with cardinals will last for quite a while because the bird often does not give up, so unless you stop your half of the conversation, you may just be stuck for like a half an hour talking to a bird.

hey I have a crow story.
A crow had a nest right outside my apartment tree. Few branches use to pop inside my window fence. I used a big clothespin to a thin bread (traditional name: khakra) every day on the fence for the crow to feed himself, his nest and his mate. One day after a month I clipped it again and he didn't come. I did it for couple of days but he didn't show up and I stopped. One day I woke up and there was strange smell and I opened my window. I saw a dead rat as a gift from him was under my fence on the neighbor's roof. I looked up and the crow was waiting there looking at me to take it and eat it. It was priceless return. I was very happy but unfortunately I am a vegetarian. hahaha.
anyways. I just subscribed your channel and loved the way you make the knowledge and the logic so interesting! And your sketches!!! wow. sometimes I get confused to look at the sketches or you.. :P

I mean, even I want that crow to be with me. It was nice to see him waiting when I was late to feed him.. haha he would just stare at me without even shouting and after a point he trusted me enough that I could feed him through my hands but we weren't so close that he would allow me to touch him. Anyways, I haven't seen them since more than 4 years now. but I hope to see them again. :)

Love crows. I once rescued an injured crow stuck in the middle of a four lane street (traffic was slow). Immediately the group he belonged to and who was in a tree in a park opposite the street started to crow very aggressively at me. It was a very threatening type of sound. Anyway, I crossed the street with the crow and deposited it under the tree where all the other crows were perched and very intently observing my actions. The crow itself didn't pick at me or anything. So after I dropped it in the grass and backed up a few meters, the crowing died down almost immediately. It was a very interesting experience for me, really kinda human in a certain way.
Anyways, crows are super smart plus they seem to care for other members of their groups. Fun experience.

Once while I was hiking with a dog in the woods, I came across a crow fledgling who had fallen from a very high nest and was trying to get back up, but hadn't quite gotten the hang of flying that high yet. The mama crow was freaking out about our presence, because the dog was straining on the leash and the young crow was completely exposed, so I made a point of holding the dog back and nodding at the crow, then clearing out of the area. Since then, the whole family that lives in that neck of the woods, so to speak, has been quite friendly to me whenever I hike there or am in the neighborhood.

There is a common raven or two on the cypress trees in my neighbor's backyard a lot of the time. They like to try to sit on the very top of the trees, especially when it is windy. My brother and I have tried to imitate their deep croaking sound and they will actually talk back to us a lot of the time. We think it might be a territorial thing because if we make a deeper croak than they do, they often fly off. Either that or we are saying something really rude in raven.

I once helped a dying crow. She had something stuck in its beak and was just been there in the snow having cold. There was no possibility to bring her to the pet doc so I decided to help her myself. Then she wanted to stay with me for a night. I sure allowed her to stay for as long as she wants to but next morning she gave me a sign that I should open the window and then she flew of.
I called her Raven (I know its not rly creative but she seemed to like it) she reacted to her name as soon as she could move. She chilled at my shoulder and watched me playing video games and stuff, gave me soft love bites.
First she wanted human food but then she didnt want the chicken nugget from my plate. Then I gave her a fresh killed mouse, believe me it was a brutal show, she loved it, me too.
I somehow had the feeling this bird understands me very well, as I would have make a new friend.
What an amazing creature, I'm glad for the experience I could make.
I hope she remembers me and that the is ok and healthy outside.

Well done but I'd really like to see less of the death and gloom, and more about the positive aspects of these magnificent birds. The fact is that both ravens and crows can easily be befriended, and are easy to watch and get to know. They will get to know friendly individuals as they very are curious about people who are genuinely curious about them. Especially ravens, who find a partner, homestead a territory, and stay there working the land together for life!

I saw a video of a guy that helped a crow and it started following him around. So look for a crow in distress and save it. You now have a crow friend!
I however, managed to be the ire of a crow. It seemed to nest at this tree next to a bank and I would often cut through the bank's parking lot to get to the store from school. It repeatedly decided it hated my hair and startled me by attacking my head and flying off. I don't know if this happened with other people, but it happened to me even if there were friends with me. So I guess it just really hated my stupid haircut or something.

Peanuts have things that are good for crows in them and since they are roasted, they are easier to digest and it takes away the chance of them being toxic. It also means you can eat the peanuts too. The cities and towns we make are good for crows. It has food and safety, not to mention plenty of nesting spots. The only threats are fellow birds and maybe some people breaking their nests. If they _do_ destroy their nest though, they'll regret it when they make a crow an enemy :>

I was at the beach throwing a few seeds at a bunch of birds to eat, at a point I was throwing one seed at a time, most birds (10-12) weighted in the ground for more food to fall, but this one crow, saw me throw food, jumped in the air and caught it while still airbourne before the other birds, it continued to do this repeatedly, it had figured that if it waited for the food to hit the ground, it was too much competition. All the other birds despite seeing what the crow was doing and getting away with, time after time, never figured out they could see the food thrown, and also catch it mid air. Crows are so smart.

I LOVE them . They are so very interesting.
I have a particular whistle I give when I call them and feed them scraps/ leftovers . Occasionally they will leave me "prizes" in return , small pebbles , a rusted washer , an acorn, piece of green glass . Etc .
If I go to the lake around the corner , they will follow me and fly over the water several times calling.
They have run off all predators , a fox and several snakes , anytime a strange vehicle or person comes near my house I know it because they start giving the predator call . 😊 they are endlessly entertaining!!

Please! For years people thought they were brainless fluffballs, but nope! Research proves that they are about as smart as a large dog! We just never gave them a chance...Rabbits have to be the most underrated pets, even animals might I say, in the world!

The facts that ravens can pull pranks on people and show what, quite obviously, is humour in their actions is their largest sign of intelligence to me.
My grandpa had a raven which stole people's soap. When they washing clothes it silently snuck up on them and stole it, only to see them fumble after it and corvid-laugh.
I'm a bit sad I never got to meet him. He sounds hilarious.

I've heard that crows are superstitious about the color black, and think that very young crows are possessed by evil spirits or something until their black color comes in, which translates into how they treat their young. I don't remember any of the details about this since it was a long time ago, but you can understand how the possibility of a unique mythology invented by sentient dinosaurs is something that's, well, awesome.

Here's the thing. You said a "jackdaw is a crow."
Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.
As someone who is a scientist who studies crows, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls jackdaws crows. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.
If you're saying "crow family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Corvidae, which includes things from nutcrackers to blue jays to ravens.
So your reasoning for calling a jackdaw a crow is because random people "call the black ones crows?" Let's get grackles and blackbirds in there, then, too.
Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A jackdaw is a jackdaw and a member of the crow family. But that's not what you said. You said a jackdaw is a crow, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the crow family crows, which means you'd call blue jays, ravens, and other birds crows, too. Which you said you don't.
It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?
