Special thanks to Zachary Brunetti and all my other Patrons!
Thank you for your support, see you in the next video!
Tell me your favourite style of music!
I actually am a fan of post-modern grind stepcore influenced by psychedelic e-jammers.
🅱️ASS
The one which Charles The pro was playing.

-Awesome-Amazing-astounding-astonishing-bravo-fantastic-magnificent-impressive-incredible-mindblowing.
You deserve all,one for each style.
Haha, thanks so much!
Alphabetical order I like it
you forgot 'not too shabby'
You forgot 'Epico' :)
É P I C O
Good grief man.
I've been a professional bassist, with more than half decent skills, for 30 years and find your work just outstanding.
I don't care if each section was pieced together from four hundred takes. The video was still: pleasing to hear, technically ridiculous, theoretically sound, with distinctive variability between well-executed styles, and delivered with a sense of humor.
I would love to know what someone like Jeff Berlin thinks of your playing.
In the meantime, well done and please keep up the demoralizing yet inspiring work for the rest of us!
Jim Stephens yare yare daze
Yeah... the demoralizing part really hurts... bad. The rest is plenty good.
That Prog part really deserves to become a complete individual song, DAAAAAMN
+1 yes
Me too
PROg is my new favorite genre
Agreed!
Kinda resembles Symphony X
Bravo. Not a jazz fan, but your jazz riff was soooo good.
Sounds kinda like Jaco Pastorius or some bebop saxophone player
That is some impressive bass playing sir!
@@Cantaste don't try to spit on him, guy plays great, as good as davie
agreed, hes amazing, God Christ Jesus bless you, have a nice day
You're not only one of the best bass players in the world. You're also one of the best musicians I've heard in long time. Many people can slapp a string, hit a drum etc. But few can actually compose music. You're the whole package. A real certified PRO!!!!
Checkmate bassists!
Very true
The metal one wasn’t accurate. I could actually hear it
Hey, Burton and Harris want a word
its a joke, its common in metal you cant hear the bass loud enough
This is bass solo
Must have never heard black sabbath
Metal with audible bass hits so much harder and sounds much fuller, some modern metal albums sound like I've pirated them in a low quality lossy MP3 because without the bass it sounds so flat and hollow.
My favourite style to play B A S S??
I don't care, Charles play anything, and it's my favourite already.
I wish I was fluent in english to express with great vocabulary how much of a surprise your channel is to me. I always loved music and bass specifically. The greatest bass channel. Not crappy jokes and repetitive themes on videos. Every video you drop is a masterpiece, man!
** Implementing Davie504**
I gotta say, that bluegrass portion was probably my favorite part, though it was all great.
Also I managed to get my first bass earlier than expected!
Congrats! Have fun!
Nice!
you should check out the Bluegrass Enter Sandman by Iron Horse if you haven't seen it.
My personal top 3 (in this video):
1) Rock
2) Metal
3) PROg
Metal is too similar to the PROg... . _:-\_
Funkiest british bass player since Stuart Zender. PRO verified!
I personally enjoyed the funk and jazz styles, but they all sound good :)
Kind of a similar name as *Zander Zon*
Ah, Stuart Zender is with Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai is such a good band in general
Elysium Rod Zender was in Jamiroquai. Now is Paul Turner, who is also great.
the amount of versatility you have as a player is incredible. i love hearing the different styles. should totally do full compositions for each one
2:48 I see what you did there...
John Myung bass battle at 300K subs?
I didn't
7/8 time signature??
PRO G!
*Dream Theater intensifies*
As a bassist for 30 years. I take my hat off to you. Brilliant and accurate playing.
EPIC, if I had to choose, my favorite would be classical. I love classical music, and now it finally has enough BASS!
Prog solo: *Dream Theater wants to know your location*
@stargazer _099 Charlie is just Learning to Live
@@manduc4Radicaal it would be a nightmare to remember for him
They're hiring him in a change of seasons
Does he consider this question?
now he is stuck inside this octavarium
I love the PRO when you played in PROg style!
Dude your musicality and playing ability, is like unmatched to any other bass player I have ever seen. Not even the many great's and the pro's . What a talent man.
Bass solo in metal is the whole band yelling at bass player to turn himself down
Listen to Beyond Creation
@@wormbass6747 And "Extinction Level Event"
Funk and jazz were incredible. The last part switching between them all fluidly was impressive.
*we need a full funk and funk slapped version of this solo*
The metal part of the solo kicked major buttocks...exceptional execution of each style! Bravo!
Great solos, I really liked the classic, blus and metal.
But was there a J-Rock/Visual Kei missing? Although not so popular, the Japanese guys do something special with the Bass.
References: Dir en gray - Cage (solo/riff), Megaromania - Kaleidoscope (solo), Luna Sea - Dejavu (riff), Janne Da Arc (riff/solo), Metis Gretel - Fleur De Neige (solos/riff).
Poxa ce tem bom gosto Lukan
X Japan's Taiji has some great slapped solo-ish bits in songs like "Sadistic Desire" and "Silent Jealousy".
Charles , your mastery of this instrument is jaw dropping. I think we are looking at one of the best bassists of the world here, and if he's not in best in the world (but how can you measure that) right now, he will absolutely be the best in his lifetime for sure.
Charles, pump out some more albums, the world needs to hear even more !
The progressive part really sounded like Dream Theater. Very nice job! Great Video!
Wow just wow, loved all of it, particulary the end with all mixed. Rock and Prog were great, but oh boy did the bluegrass win my heart! Amazing!!!
Love the quick intro style! I nearly fall asleep on all your other video intros
It always takes me a few minutes to recover after listening to Charles ' videos... incredible.
You vs Sarah Longfield
TAPPERS 💖
+1 up this guyss! 😂
IMPRESSED!!!! SO MUCH TALENT IN ONE VIDEO!!! BRAVOO CHARLES! GREETINGS FROM INDONESIA
"PROg"
I'll let you go this time, but only because it's true
What's sad is it took me a day to get the joke
Pls explain
@@dannyburke1098 PRO with capitals cuz he's a pro
It was coool. Classical and rock are my favorites.
If you want next time I can prepare for you some groovy drums tracks to use instead of those...illegal fake drums :)
DO IT MAN! 😁
@@Enztun Thanks man, but I would need Charles to ask me :)
Yeah may be it's a good idea 😉
Pietro Valente - Drummer & Composer do you have any tips for composing drum solos?
@@magmarok8209 yes, you can try to copy a trumpet solo with drums, I suggest you to use Kind of Blue album by Miles Davis to take some inspiration. The important thing, which may be difficult for a drummer, is to develop a melodic sense and to use more pauses.
That bluegrass solo hit my soul in just the right way. The whole thing was great but I listened to that part 6 times now. About to go for 7
One of my favorite RUclips bassist definitely top 3
Huge smile on my face-wow, just wow
You seem so humble, although you play like a god. Keep going!
Big solo! Fun, varied, well thought! Excellent performance!
Always blowing my mind! As a bass player who's familiar (though quite rusty) with a lot of these techniques, I'd love to hear what kind of practice regiment it took to get your dexterity so damn high. Your right hand tapping technique is off the charts. It's like you're effortlessly typing on the neck or something haha. It's really quite astounding.
Favorite style here would have to be the blues, just for how damn tasty and unique it was. But the jazz part was really classy and on point as well.
Fun fact: He wrote a book "Two-handed Tapping" which has all you need
Love the blues how you did a sort of bass version of pride and joy
OMG! What just happened? These solos blew my mind! Coolest thing on RUclips
So much soul & feeling in your playing, beautiful!
LOVE WHAT YOU`RE DOING! HOPE YOU GET ALL THE RECOGNITION YOU DESERVE!
Thank you!
@@CharlesBerthoud omg you're very welcome :")
Such a wonderful bass solo i ever watch
You really channelled your inner John Myung in the prog solo
I was specifically channeling John Myung in Metropolis Pt. 1
It's a shame that DT wastes the talent of one of the greatest bass players on the planet. They really need to give him more space to shine.
@@CharlesBerthoud OMG, please Charles, do a top 10 john myung
@@sodeiku oh god yes please
@Luke Koster - Bassists in metal are generally not very respected.
Few times moving from one style to another looks so simple!!
Is there a style you can't play! Cheers and bravo to the talent as always!
Amazing
wooow Charles im really glad i found you! that was great! i really liked all the styles and every style adaptation has something to interest me in!
p.s.: a cool idea vid would be to use unusual technics to play a certain style of music e.g: to slap or tap in a reggae track or a metal one or incorporate harmonics in a punk beat etc
Funk definitely is my favorite. Gees you make it looks so easy. Enjoy seeing you play, you're awesome 🙌🙌👍👍
Your bass notes are crunchier and more delicious than crunch chocolate bar 🍫.
Blues was awesome. Loved it! Now I want more blues videos!
Perhaps i am a guitarist, but your solos are motivating me and cures my depression slowly, keep up the good work!
The funk one with slapping and the rock one but the classical one was pretty smooth!
Maaan yo should show which recording /processing chain you use to get that tone. It's soooo tasty (apart from the fact that your playing is awesome and clearer than heaven)
The blues was insane im about o make it my ringtone thanks for the awesome music
LOVE THIS!
Dude. No words to explain how amazing it was.
1:51 is almost the music that plays while he talks
Mate, I'm a professional trombone player myself, and you are my favorite musician ever! Thumbs up!
Not sure Bluegrass has ever seen anything like that before ....
What is that?
Victor Wooten in Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
So(o)…?
I liked, for your top three, jazz, jazz, and jazz. And the jazz was a good fourth option.
This is the longest intro in your channael
RT Ruggeddu this is one of the reasons he’s a much better channel than Davie (even though that’s how I discovered him in the first place), less talking, more playing
@@gman3976 davie changed his style,he played much longer a few years ago
This was the "War and Peace" of intros
Gautham Davie used to be that guy until he realized he need new strategies to market himself. I always like his Fiverr videos, but recently it's like reviewing things in his subreddit page. I love Davie, but I love the bass more so I hope for more playing time from him.
@@FRANCISCM74 Yeah I know, I preferred it that way lol
dude that breakdown from the metal one to the reggae one got me, it was brilliant yet hilarious 😂
You forgot to include
the Ling Ling style wherein you play the Bass without touching the instrument
I see you're a fan of Ling Ling as well :')
Nice
I see two set is leaking
Unbelievable. So good. The greatest of all time. Compliments!
You know, I see quite a bit of people comparing Davie and Charles. I've come to the conclusion that they are both awesome bassists that are neither better than each other and have different viewpoints on different styles of playing. But I do much prefer Charles's tone. Sounds incredible
I got here after that bass battle video from davie, gotta admit I’m in love with his bass!!
the reason I prefer Charles is because he actually PLAY
Funk and Jazz :-) But of course, loved all!
PROg starts playing
me: Why do i hear Boss music?
man, it s always a pleasure to listen at your music.. so amazing
I would love to hear some video game themes in the form of an amazing bass tapping solo!
Have you listened to the Zelda one?
Yep. Can you imagine him playing something like Tubelectric? That would blow stuff up.
@@TyDarapiza I don't think Charles has anything on his youtube I haven't listened to at least a half dozen times, and the Zelda ones are on my playlist.
Awesome dude! His stuff is pretty great!
My favorite Bass player.. sincerely.. technique, precision, and depth.. versatility of course.m.. damn amazing phrasing..
Joli foquin shet, which means in spanish "I'm impressed"
I was going to say it was more like a medley of 10 different solos, but then you actually did one solo with them all at the end. Bravo!
There must be also a Cliff Burton one
Literally soloing in the *BASS*
I recently wrote to Charles PROposing to do something like Cliff
That Jaco lick at the end was 🔥
way better than Davie504! nicely done Pro!😁
Karluke Soroño agree
No
Tap- Charles>Davie
Slap- Davie>Charles
Your melodic awareness and the way you compose music is absolutely incredible. I get chills everytime
Finally, Metal is not insulted in a bass video! You have my awkward handwave of approval :) good job brother
YOOOOO SILAAAAAAA
VERY IMPRESSIVE !
Honestly his backgrounds kinda looks like a hotel room
*I know it's almost like he's been touring around and recording his videos in hotel room* mind blown.
Hahahahaha accurate
@@domingosauspiciosos67 tens um grande nome!!!
im pretty sure in this video he is in a hotel LOL, check around 1:50 , noone has a phone like that anymore, also the room layout is just obvious hotel.
It is obviously a hotel room.
Imagine being this talented. Makes me want to play bass again.
Jesus Christ, Youre a god
Literally
Yes that's correct
Actually Jesus is The Son of God, The Word of God, but the Trinity are all One at the Same time so it’s a bit complex.

the bluegrass and PROG sounded like different levels on a retro side scroller video game, loved them!
Amusing that the rock version hat more "bite" to it then the metal version.
He' s not a metal listener
100% sure
@@sesclaytpoop8525 yeah i agree. judging from his older uploads, i can tell that he's more into stuff like classical and funk definitely
The rock sounded more country rock and the metal sounded... Not metal lol.
The last part was wow!!
02:05 how strong do you have to be to pull off that vibrato bend.
It's pretty easy. The strings aren't too tight that you can't bend them.
Practice enough and you will be fine with it
So goooood job, and we can enjoy this for free. Thank you, and God bless you.
Hello my fellow *tappers*
*cries in high action bass*
Wow, just wow.
Davie504: slapp king
CharlesBerthoud: tapp king

My favorite is the whole video except the intro.
OMG! that PROg style was unexpected. My fav by far!!
