      Same. I'm pretty sure I was waiting for early access to come out to the public just as I'm now waiting for T5. And god is it a long wait. 40 hours to go? I can't wait that long! Overall great game and if steam doesn't have the reviews permanently listed as "overwhelmingly positive" I'm going to personally strangle whoever made that decision/review.

    I’ve been playing empires of the undergrowth for about 4 years now almost have 2,000 hours on it I’m a extreme difficulty player every once and a while I’ll try impossible but overall it will always be my favorite game I would enjoy multiplayer if it was possible so I could play with my friends but like you said it’s not required to make the game enjoyable❤

      I have a similar story with this game, though a bit different. I like to play on extreme, but every now and then I play on impossible for a challenge. I've gotten all the achievements, and I can barely believe I have less than 500 hours.
      Edit: When 1.0 comes out I'm going to be playing this game whenever possible, and probably ruin my sleep schedule which already sucks because of it.

    you sound really close to the games narrator(mauLer), and there is also some micro you can discover if you really want to do super hard challenges, but I like the lack of that super reflex heavy gameplay, also there is an arachnophobia mode

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  4 месяца назад +5

      I'm interested to see how heavy the micro gets. With the tools I've played, I'm assuming it'll revolve around pheromone movement / quick building? That I'm okay with, little short bursts now and then is the balance I really enjoy. It's SC2 constant micro that I get turned off by.
      And I really liked the narrator's voice so I will take that as a compliment, thank you!

    Ants have been one of my favorite animals for quite a few years now and Empires of the Undergrowth has been an absolute treat
    My computer unfortunately crashes in any levels past the 2-x's so it might be months if not years before I can enjoy the game to its fullest, but I'm still having fun ramming my head into the impossible difficulty for the wood ant levels

    I’ve played this game since the Alpha, And it is one of my favorites, I have hundreds of hours and honestly, the team have out done themselves time and time again, updates may take some time but when they come they aren’t half baked, they give exactly what they promised, and then a few days later they fix any issues they missed. Not to mention everything else you mentioned, EOTU is my favorite game of all time, and when you beat the campaign there is a new game plus, opening new species for your formicarium (ant box) and letting you bring your upgrades into the campaign, while making the levels harder. I highly recommend this game, and they are only adding more to free play, and arcade, and even more. I can’t wait to see what they cook up next!

    The Sound design is the cherry on top : the narrator is soothing, the musics are bangers, and you can feel the love of details in the effects. One of the few games you can have hundreds of hours in and still don't want to cut the sound for your own music or a podcast.

    Early access from one ant colony and no free play, the developers are exemplary! Regular updates, consistent and appropriate communication with the community, and delivering on everything said, especially adding more than expected. The team is how all developers should work on their games. They thoroughly test things before releasing them and they are the best of the best. God bless them for making the only stand out RTS in decades especially an Ant game that wasn’t disappointing, but quite the opposite!

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  4 месяца назад +2

      This is definitely one of the best examples of Early Access done correctly. Especially from such a small dev team - I've got a lot of respect for the studio.
      And from what I've read, they aren't finished with the game yet. I joined the party late, but very excited to see what's next for the studio and the game.

    I really like the micro in this game. It's there enough that it can actually make a difference, but it's also unreliable and not always useful. The pheromone groups in particular suffer from heavy micro when you have larger groups.

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  4 месяца назад

      I think this strikes the balance really well. I felt like I could micro for a slight advantage (and probably necessary on higher difficulties) - but I didn't feel like I was being hamstrung if I wanted to sit back and play a bit more relaxed.

    • @ritter3723
      @ritter3723 3 месяца назад

      That’s what I like about the pheromone groups, it encourages the players to split up groups, by making groups take longer to react the more ants are in it.

    4 weeks late but oh well, i started playing this game earlier this year, a little after the fire ants were added and i've loved almost every bit about it since i started. i was (and still probably am) a bit of a noob at strategy games when i started but one of the things i love about this game is how different the difficulty can be, sometimes i just want to sit back and build an ant colony, i can just put it on easy and do whatever but it still stays fun and engaging, if i want something more rough i can put it on a harder difficulty. even the hardest difficulty is still fair and doesnt feel like you have to spend years practicing, you just need a good understanding of how the game works and to be able to weigh risk and reward according to the current situation, it truly is a game of strategy rather than dexterity or reaction speed, you dont need to be good at video games to be good at it, i like being able to take my time to figure out the best strategies, optimizing nest structure and army composition, getting to do things slow and methodically without it getting boring while also knowing there's always gonna be a challenge, it just makes me want to keep coming back because every time i play it i leave feeling happy, like i did something cool rather than what i find with a lot of other strategy games where i leave feeling mentally drained and avoiding playing them again because its so much effort.
    The story as well for me was a big part of what i loved about the game, its simple but fun, nothing award winning or super innovative but its presented in a interesting way, my favourite part is the "evil scientist" kind of guy, his whole career all of his projects have failed, he's achieved nothing and now he's done something everyone told him was impossible, then they try to take that achievement away from him and he cant handle it so he doesnt let them, he pushes it further and further until it (almost literally) consumes him. it lets you empathize with him, he's not really "evil" he's just always felt like he wasnt good enough and now he's finally done something amazing, anyone would want to protect something they see as the only meaningful thing they have done.
    probably reading into it too deep but oh well, that's what i do, basically if you're thinking of giving the game a try, do.

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  3 месяца назад

      I love the difficulty variance in the game. As you say, sometimes you want a more chilled experience, and you can achieve this here while still feeling like you're engaging with the game. A lot of RTS games, you dial back the difficulty and you just no longer engage with the game, you can do whatever you want and still succeed. When I ramped things up here, after a mission I was jumping straight into the next one - whereas a more traditional RTS, yeah as you said, I'd feel drained after and need to recharge the batteries.
      I agree with you on the story. I don't usually do RTS campaigns 'cos I don't really care about a story told through hours of missions. This really didn't feel like that. Each mission having it's own mini self-contained narrative, tied together with the overarching thing with the scientist - it is super refreshing.

    YES! Somebody has finally shed some light onto this game! Love it to tears, and have played for years! Your points are amazing and I do agree with them. I also appreciate how the narrator is the least annoying narrator in any game ever (besides maybe the Stanley Parable). Soundtrack’s no slacker either, great for studying! It’s also actually *difficult* in the *difficult* modes (I know, novel, right?!). Multiplayer is an option, but I think it’s fine as it is and having an unbalanced multiplayer meta might put a stain on an otherwise amazing game. It’s *the* hidden gem of a game!

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  4 месяца назад +1

      I loved the soundtrack! I didn't hear much of it when making the video as I played without game music - but I've been listening to it since and it's great. Also yeah, the narrator is excellent. The nature documentary angle fits so well. You feel the weight of it, but you also feel like you're learning something (I even now remember the scientific name for some insects!).
      And that's it exactly with multiplayer. It's a different beast. As soon as that's a feature, everything needs to be balanced around it. It's huge to implement, but the ongoing commitment is also big. Devs would be expected to tweak and balance everything constantly, and that would ultimately come at the cost of time developing & refining single player content.
