No one seems to be acknowledging the superior work of the Chorus Director. Most people seem to think that Karina, the conductor, prepared the Chorus. Not so. She may have added some "final touches" in the dress rehearsal but the Netherland's Radio Choir's performance was because of the Chorus Director. He trained them. I say this because so often the Chorus Director is completely ignored -- as seems to be the case in these comments -- and all credit for his work goes to the conductor. Chorus Directors get a little tired of that, understandably so. This is not meant to take away anything from Karina. She's an excellent conductor. I'm just saying to give credit where credit is due. In any performance where a Chorus is on stage, their performance is because of the Chorus Director who trained them. Glad to see he was brought out more than once at the end of this performance to be acknowledged for his hard work. That's very good. It's not all about the conductor and conductor-worshipping. Even the finest conductors can only do so much with the musicians they have to work with. In this case, Karina is fortunate to work with stellar musicians, both Orchestra and Chorus.
Absolutely! Love Karina, but the fact that the Choir Director is not even mentioned is negligent. I suspect it may be Benjamin Goodson, Chief Conductor of the choir, but perhaps...?
Absolutely magnificent. This Conductor has truly understood the depth of brooding, the melancholy that was (and is!) Brahms. I think we'll hear much more from This Lady....
Form the first notes.chords of the Brahms, like his German Requiem, one feels like God is talking. Canellakis and the orchestra channel it beautifully!
Exceptionally beautiful and moving performance. Very sensitive conducting, Ms. Canellakis pulls the living breath of Brahms out of each of the musicians. Very special.
Superbe Brahms !
Wahrlich tiefempfunden!
An excellent performance. Conducting, beyond words, the lady was completely immersed in her work, exuding complete confidence, sincerity; extracting the best and every bit from her orchestra. Tears of happiness rolled down the cheeks after a long, long time. Wish I could be there....🙏Wish the very best to all. The conductor will go a long way...May success kiss her every step...
@ Rod Luftalchimist: This being 2020-2021 and not the 1940s or 50s, I suspect the many women musicians -- including the conductor -- would appreciate being referred to as peoplekind or humankind to acknowledge their accomplishments. And the non-sexist male musicians would say the same.
Wonderful, perambulatory tempo, which is the right polish on the alluvial perfection of Brahms. The 4-3 appoggiatura over V reminds me a failing relationship I once endured, with the near-ex once inadvertently standing on my ear-buds, which had dropped to the floor, symbolically enough, prompting me to say, decisively, “ You’re treading on my song of destiny.”
@Goran Vukovic This was not meant to be a political statement at all. It just has do do with being sure you do not inadvertently infect another musician. Caring for fellow human beings, that's a quality you seem to lack.
One unfortunate thing for this conductor is she's come along at a moment in music when we're seeing a lot of affirmative action. I hope no one makes such assumptions about her. This is really amazing. Wow!
An excellent interpretation and performance of this beautiful Brahms piece. It also resonated with me for another reason, though: I had become pessimistic about ever again being able to see a live concert with anything other than chamber-size music forces. This performance of a full-scale choral/orchestral piece was extremely encouraging to me. Thank you for posting this.
@ Ellwood Cushman: The Chorus in this performance *is* a Chamber Chorus (in size). They sound larger because of the mic'ing. I count 34 voices (socially distanced). Anything under around 40 voices is considered chamber. It may be the Chamber Chorus of the full Chorus (Nederlands Radio Choir) that I've seen from their other performances, such as their Elias (Mendelssohn). I do question why they all did not wear face masks -- both Orchestra (minus the winds and brass of course) and Chorus -- like the Collegium 1704 in the Czech Republic have been doing. No one's life is worth a performance.
very spiritual music with an ethereal sound - I'm glad the cantabile strings came through very well - very good conductor - maybe performers should keep sitting/standing 2 metres apart
It is Hyperions Schicksalslied by Hoelderlin. You can find the German original with an English translation here: www.lieder.net/lieder/get_text.html?TextId=8134
I'm not convinced by these slow tempi... It's a bit like the Adagietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony - actually the tune is quite simple, but gets rather lost if it's too slow. But they sing and play it well anyway.
Hartverwarmend mooi ❤❤❤

Yes, it is Benjamin Goodson, acknowledged at 17:58, and presented with a bouquet.
@@chambermuses7802 You are so right. Thanks for mentioning it.
C’est quoi la 😊😊

Fantastic, and it's like the sound gets even more crisp with the distance between them.

Fine recording of this noble piece of Brahms shows the quality of the conductor, choir and orchestra
Bravo !
Such a joy to see a great musical performance! Wonderful musicians forging ahead despite the plague.
Meisterhaft. Endlich wieder ein tolles Konzert.
Damn, that so few could actually be there to celebrate mankind's soaring genius and true accomplishments...
I'm in love with this performance!
Questo Canto del Destino muove a commozione. Grande Brahms, grande Karina Canellakis.
Karina is an amazing conductor. Great performance!
...wow...that was incredible
Bravo. Bellísima composición de Brahms que no conocía. Gracias infinitas por compartir. Terminé de escucharla muy conmovida. ❤🙏🎼🌞🌸

It's so nice to see that they are following social distancing while creating such beautiful music. May they help heal the earth.

Wow! She makes it sound like a real masterpiece. Fascinating view of a post-COVID setup.
It IS a masterpiece, and it's a mid-COVID setup.
A sublime performance and a great privilege to experience it in the South end of the world....thanks for sharing.

Thank You All for your performance~!!!!! (from KOREA.south)

Hermosa Orquesta...bellisima Música Op.54.Recreacion a la mente🎇💞🎇💥
2021 will be the year of Women Conductors. And Karina Canellakis will be in the in the frontline.
Men should stop conducting. Specially if they are not blonde and cute.
@@leonardoiglesias2394 Why so pessimistic? Still 90 % of this worlds conductors are men. I only think that we have to give women a chance.
przepiękne wykonanie!!!!balsam dla serca !!!!
Super !
Beautiful !!!
Meravellosa musica, "Cant del Destí". gran directora i orquestra.

Mooie uitvoering ondanks Covid- afstandsmaatregelen

Beautiful
Flip a coin between this piece and Nanie as to which is really the more sublime.
Brava
W0rds of Brahms
Cool

Only Hölderlin to write such words. The best of German poets.

who dropped a cymbal on 2:46
PS this piece reminds me of his German Mass. I wonder if they were written in same time period?
Requiem 1869, this in '71, so definitely his younger years
the lyrics .... holderlin ? help ?!
It is Hyperions Schicksalslied by Hoelderlin. You can find the German original with an English translation here: www.lieder.net/lieder/get_text.html?TextId=8134
02:47! Percussionist gets the sack! ffs! Just then!

It’s less than 16 minutes from start to end, that is not a slow performance of this piece.
Die Dirigentin!Der Dirigent ist ein Mann!Frau ist Biologie!😖
Ich liebe blonde hübsche junge amateur Dirigentin.
Вельмi прыгожа...
She is the ideal cute young blonde conductor for Brahms. Men should just stop conducting. They dont have the sensibility.
I fully agree with you! Some time ago we saw Anja Bielmayer in The Hague with the Residentie Orchestra conducting Mahler IV; also Super!!!!!
Genial...
