It's not actually, look very closely at the dust cover and bolt of the rifle, they were using VZ-58's for some reason (maybe they were an easier to get prop gun, who knows)
VZ-58 is a Czechoslovak weapon and this movie was shot in Slovakia. Slovak army used them until recent years. And they're also pretty easy to find there so i guess that's the reason. From the perspective of the film makers the Ak 47 and Vz 58 and even the serbian M70 look the same, even though they are a lot different.

This is one of the top ten dumbest scenes in an action movie. He survives the mine field by doing what the enemy least expects....setting off the mines, brilliant!
Those commenting on why he was not effected by the blasts? because Owen didn't set off any of the traps. When the first bomb got tripped it caused tht others to trip behind him which gave him a lead time ahead of the blast zones.
