    If you're thinking of buying one of these be sure to check the front of the intake manifold where the thermostat is as the original intake was all plastic and if the car still has the original all plastic intake manifold and there is over 100.000 miles on the car then at some point soon it will start leaking coolant and it could be leaking already so look for any small puddles of coolant around the front as they can start slow or they can just bust while you're cruising down the highway. so if it still has the all plastic manifold you will need to replace it with the upgraded version which is still plastic but has an aluminum crossover. After this problem started poping up on fords 4.6 ford finally issued a recall but not for the regular joe's like us but just for police/taxi's and limo's so people were so pissed that a class action law suit was filed and ford finally caved in and covered the cost of the replacement manifold but that's no help for someone like me who got my dads 1999 Lincoln Town Car with 90.000 miles on it in 2013 and all was well then but fast forward to 2016 with 115.000 miles and i notice i am having to add a little coolant every few weeks and sure enough the plastic where the thermostat seats had broken off and on the passenger side of the manifold i was also loosing a little coolant so i had to replace the manifold $156.00 on eBay + $200.00 labor to have a friend install so just be sure to check for this crappy cost cutting plastic part that ford put on the 4.6.

    And this was mentioned in a previous comment. If putting the car on a service rack, to change tires or an oil change, there is a switch in the trunk to turn off the air suspension. If you do not turn it off before raising the car off the ground, when you lower it, it will blow out the rubber 'bags' that inflate to give the car its ultra smooth ride. I did this once to a Town Car I had and heard an audible 'pop' as the car was lowered. I had to replace the suspension air bags, and they are very expensive. Don't let this happen to you! Make sure the garage knows this and flips the switch, otherwise you will drive down the street with your ass coming very close to dragging on the ground, and look very foolish!

      If a drive on rack it's like the road, if a lift where suspension will drop or sag yes. ALWAYS SWITCH OFF EITHER WAY TO BE SAFE.

      Have a 99 Cartier 253k and 07 designer 118k. Had many over 20 yrs. Never any issues but simple. Can't have air springs made of RUBBER and not keep rubber soft and supple. This is key. Have a set a decade old and 7 yrs old. No cracks, leaks. 303, Vaseline 2 times a year. Service on time with motorcraft ford parts.

    I always wanted a town car 80's through 2011 models. My most favorite ones are the 1980's square body's and the least favorite of mine was the 1998-2002. Still love them all. I drive a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis. I love it a lot.

    God: what do you want in a vehicle? I want it to be the most comfortable ride ever, be the safest car if i get in a accident, its gotta hold all my gear and friends, be super comfy inside, like lazy boy seats y'know? and not break, like its gotta go a million miles with no problems. God: Got it

    I have had both the Lincoln Town car and the Cadillac Deville and must say IMO, the Lincoln has the better ride but the 4.9 Northstar has more power while getting about the same gas mileage; but not everyone will work on the Northstar. still to this day the cars meaning the caddy has a strong engine and while being such a heavy car It has front wheel drive while the Lincoln has rear w.heel drive. Both in their day turned heads and still do when they are clean with Vogue tires and Tru-spokes and eat-up highway miles, with today's cars not quite up to the standards with cushion comfortable seats.

    • @honestbutugly
      @honestbutugly 4 года назад

      Anthony k. Nance the North Star is natrious for blown head gaskets that are impossible to fix for the price of the car Lincoln will have a failed air ride, can be replaced with springs, but obvious because the back will sit too high. You gan replace the air ride for about $600 including the pump, and gaurntee for life

    Since you know those cars like the back of your hand, I really wish you lived by me here in WV, because I'm having the most awful trouble with my silver color 2000 Signature Series. When I turn the key, absolutely nothing happens. No dash lights, no clicking starter, no dome lights. Just like I said, nothing. I just washed and waxed it, too. 😖

    What's a 'panther car'?
    Also, the air ride suspension is nice, but the one shown on this video seems to have a leak somewhere. The air ride suspension should only engage if weight is added to the car, not on initial start up. I've had a couple Lincolns, and they all eventually develop this problem. The solution is to install coils in the rear suspension, thereby negating any future problems. The ride will suffer, tho. It will ride stiffer. And that's not what you would expect from a smooth as glass ride from a Lincoln.

      It can and all mine has. When u get out of car it will pump after it reads so much on switch. It it runs all time it has leaks. Bags are cheap. The issue is ppl gave forgot that rubber HAS TO BE KEPT MOISTURISED. Had same set in rust belt by spraying with 303 then a handful of Vaseline. Do same on semis and trailers with air bags. Same with tires. I spray mine inside and out when new and outside through life. I get way more years and miles. Gotta take care of rubber. I tell kids this when they show me their bike tires. It only takes a minute. Idk how many I've replaced for ppl and they ask what r u spraying on them? 303. We use lotion on skin or it gets dry, cracks. Same with these. They crack on bottom of bag. This is the key. I hate when ppl rip oit and use springs. Rides like shit. If u care for bags and if u have a leak stop and fix so pump won't run all time it can last a long time. Decades. clean, protect. Yearly.

      Panther platform is what all RWD ford cars are called. All same pretty much from cop p71 to ford crown vic civilian, Mercury Marquis, Town car. All panther from early 80s. Same car from 03-11. 98-03 was start of bubble top. B4 was squared and rounded, square b4 that.

    to bad the left cylinder bank head gasket is blown (water spraying out of the exhaust gives it away), common problem with these series cars.

    • @DavidNicholson101
      @DavidNicholson101 9 лет назад

      +highwatercircutrider What would have to be done to fix it? Replace the gasket?

    • @highwatercircutrider
      @highwatercircutrider 9 лет назад

      have the cylinder head milled flat again (or at least checked for flatness by a machine shop), then install a new head gasket

    • @DavidNicholson101
      @DavidNicholson101 9 лет назад +1

      highwatercircutrider Yeah, can't believe he'd show that off like that.
      I really want one though considering most people seem to have a lot of good luck with them. Besides gasket and suspension problems, they seem like great cars.
