Thanks for watching my reaction to this very very special episode of The Last of Us! I am sorry to say that this will be the last video of this series that I will edit and post here. Unfortunately, it just did not get enough interest. The full reactions to the full season will be available only on my Patreon.
Unfortunately that's an easy way to alienate viewers and incentivize people to not subscribe to the channel. You have to think in the long run. Having half finished series (and a short and excellent one at that) is a very bad look. I can only hope that you reconsider and post the rest on youtube. You reactions are great.
@@bawzzzz Uhh... Yeah. I literally just subbed to watch the rest. And then saw this comment and unsubbed... There's nothing as saddening to reaction viewers than to see an unfinished series. Like getting your favorite show cancelled.
@@bawzzzz I know what you mean. I can see it from both sides, I imagine editing and uploading the videos is an awful lot of time for what will feel like very little reward, but I agree it feels a little shortsighted leaving an unfinished series on your channel if your aim is to grow your subscriber base.
@@ookook1331 Yea, that's a good idea. I'm a new viewer, never seen her before, just finished this one and was looking forward to see the next one. Instead I'm blocking her from my feed and I will never take another look.
The best part of this episode is that they took the purpose Bill had in the game, and kept it, while flipping it from tragedy to a life well lived. Joel still learns the same lesson of what happens when you fully detach vs what happens when you connect. Just an absolute treasure of an episode, just stellar acting and writing all around
In the show, the outbreak began in 2003 when George W. Bush was President (as we saw in Episode One), which means gay marriage wasn't legal nationwide yet. So, theoretically 1 additional reason why Bill & Frank chose to live on their own instead of the Boston QZ was because they were a gay couple & they might have been discriminated against for that.
That first kiss between the two of them is incredible. It’s like a man dying of thirst in the desert gets his first drink of cool water. It’s life-giving. Their acting was incredible.
My understanding is that, in the game, Frank leaves Bill, gets bitten, and faced with the prospect of being trapped in his own body by cordyceps, chooses to hang himself. In the show, Frank has ALS, and is also faced with being trapped in his own body. He makes the same choice in the show, but does it on his own schedule, and with love.
The reason Frank leaves Bill and risks getting bitten was because by that time he hated Bill. Bill made life miserable with his negative attitude and his traps. Before he hung himself he left Bill a note that ended with him telling Bill that he would rather die like this than spend another day with him.Bill called Frank his partner but it didn't become clear that they were Gay until Ellie found the Gay porn mag in Bill's truck. Bill didn't help them out of the goodness of his heart, he did it because he owed Joel for something and by giving him the truck he would never have to see Joel again. Bill was a total asshole in the game but people liked him for the insults he and Ellie threw at each other.
Thanks for this reaction. It was so raw and emotional. I've never played the game, so I came to this story completely fresh and found it beautiful and heartbreaking. The show runners did a terrific job of creating characters that we give a damn about, making the ending of this episode so much harder to watch (and so rewarding). And now, if you'll excuse me, there's something in my eye...
The first scene was shot in Sheep River Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada. I have hiked through the exact spot. Recognized the location immediately. It is a beautiful area.
"Why are they doing this?" "It wasn't part of the game." The show runners decided to make 'GREAT' television! And they left Joel with a mission to protect Ellie. - - - this is a GREAT SHOW! - - -
The short story narrative style of this show (as oppossed to a novella or novel or theatrical) means that every single scene or interaction is highly efficient. For example, the subtle point that "Frank is (nice)" said by Joel implies that both are still in the present, thus it isn't too scary that Bill gets shot. But you have to memorize the show in real-time to get those points. It makes the show very different than most other TV genres.
it was nice to see Tess again. Anna Torv was more than suitable for the role - not only a good actress, but also a very good action actress (those who watched her in the series Fringe know what I'm talking about)! and she's very beautiful, isn't she? ❤
In an interview Nick Offerman said when it finally aired and he got to see the end result the episode broke his heart. As to the time frame, '80's music starts playing on the radio just before the end of episode 1.
It's a great episode. Definitely a 2-3 tissue episode. You did fine. Only automatons could get through this without tears. You are watching the original Star Trek right now. Leonard Nimoy was very ill with COPD which he had had for years. One day he asked his nurses to help him. This was about 9 months before assisted suicide became legal in California. He had his family with him when he died and later his wife Susan Bey Nimoy gave an interview about it. It sounds pretty similar to this story. His daughter said he took her hands and told her that she and Susan had to let him go. It's a beautiful story.
I tear up every time I see this episode. I'm an oldish blue collar semi redneck and that intentional end to bookmark a life well lived gets me every time. So poignant and beautiful.
I don't think its cruel, rather the opposite.Bill & Frank are blessed. They get to enjoy the time they have.Pass away in peace. I could only dream of that.
We all rolled out eyes at the "10 miles west of Boston"... It would be flat suburbs at best. The nearest mountains like that are more like 100 miles away.
In no universe does anything 10 miles west of Boston look like that, btw. Everything within 10 miles of Boston is an identical quasi-suburban strip mall. haha.
This episode for the most part can stand on its own because the story of Bill and Frank is contained here. I think it’s amazing what a beautiful and touching story they can tell in just under an hour.
First of all, I think you're the cutest thing I've ever seen. Beautiful. I loved your reaction. You hit all the points at the right time. Perfect. I'll be watching more of you without a doubt.
So, im bi. And i view this episode as an apology from the creator since the bill&frank stuff wasnt handled well in the game. Also, this episode was one of the best lgbt relationships ever portrayed in media. Two people who just grow old together. Tragic, but not traumatic. Just... beautiful. I enjoyed the first two episodes, but this is where the season really took off.
@@bunnytailsREACTS I think if you watch the best 20 or so episodes of the original Star Trek it would probably be popular because it would fill a niche. Community might be good too, I only know of one channel that reacts to it and it's a great show.
I have played The Last Of Us Part 1 at least a dozen times, & I can say that this show is the best videogame adaptation ever! It does what any good adaptation should do; be mostly loyal to the original source material, but change just enough so there's something new yet still enjoyable to watch. For example, about 80% of what we see in the 1st 3 episodes is from the 1st few levels of the game, but the remaining 20% is things like expanded backstory & more development for certain characters we didn't originally get. Here's hoping Season 2 is as good & faithful when they adapt Part 2.
I remember this episode got a lot of hate online, but I think the acting is amazing. It was a slower episode in terms of pace but a show needs that sometimes, and it was extremely sad what happened to them. Good to get the back story to Bill and Frank which we didn't get so much in the game.
@bunnytailsREACTS I think its because there are a lot of uneducated cave men out there that think its inappropriate to be showing intimacy between two men on screen (there were articles about review bombing on Rotten Tomatoes at the time) 😒. It's sad that people have to be that way in this day and age (or any day and age for that matter!) I thought it was a class episode, not my personal favourite of the series to be honest, but a decent episode with some outstanding acting.
I’m completely unknowledgeable about any of this, but I assume it would realistically be very difficult for Bill to perform the necessary maintenance all by himself on the water filtration/power plant to keep it running for years and years.
Considering the somewhat rural nature, I assumed each homeowner on the street had their own private well. If that was the case, water flow would continue as long as there was electricity (which there was) to power the pump.
you watched a fictional episode about a survivalist being taught how to live, rather than simply survive, in the horrifying post-apocalyptic isolation of a completely deserted town, and running water is what concerns you? it's up to you, but you might concentrate just a little more on the story.
@@evilchipmunk4090 I don’t see a problem with wondering about these things after you’ve watched and enjoyed the story once for yourself and then multiple times more through other people’s reactions.
I truly hope all your posts are successful. But these new shows have been covered so much. THE INCREDIBLE HULK 1977-81 tv series is the best option. It has a huge built in fan base and no one has done a reaction to it yet. There's TONS of fan channels on youtube from people who have already seen the series, but no first time reactions. All negativity surrounding that show is from the tv movies in the late 1980s. The Hulk looked terrible and that's sadly what people see pictures of. Really hope you give the Pilot episodes a reaction. You won't regret it. Those episodes are better than the last 2 theatrical movies.
I would love a The Incredible Hulk reaction. It is a great show, and the end of episode 5 of TLOU when they are packing up and leaving reminds me of that show. I was waiting to the end theme to play.
Interesting. I’ve never heard of this. I will add it to my list as a possibility to explore in the future, but I think I will be busy with Star Trek and Avatar for a good long while
@@bunnytailsREACTS if you don't mind me making another suggestion... Since THE INCREDIBLE HULK is the very first live action MARVEL tv series, and there isn't a single reaction to it yet... I would suggest posting a reaction to the 2-part pilot episode. Then finish Avatar, and if you have enough interest in the Hulk pilot episode, you'll know it's a good bet to do more Hulk episodes when Avatar is done. If it helps any, the Hulk tv series was award winning. Plus the pilot episode was so popular, they released it overseas in theaters as a movie. It was so successful as a theatrical release, they released another 2-part episode in theaters overseas. With all the hype over current Marvel tv shows, I'm surprised no one has reacted to the original Marvel tv show yet.
