Fun Fact: Viserys’s death is seemingly inspired by the death of a historical figure, Marcus Crassus. After this episode aired, I Googled what would happen if you poured molten gold on someone's head. Kinda wished I hadn't. It wouldn't kill you right away. It would burn away all the skin and hair, but not the bone. The heat would boil all the liquid in your skull, steaming out all the orifices and popping out your eardrums and eyes. You would GRADUALLY die over several minutes, but not feel anything as your brain would no longer be functioning such that it could detect pain.
When the gold was half-melted and starting to run, Drogo reached into the flames, snatched out the pot. "Crown!" he roared. "Here. A crown for Cart King!" And upended the pot over the head of the man who had been her brother. The sound Viserys Targaryen made when that hideous iron helmet covered his face was like nothing human. His feet hammered a frantic beat against the dirt floor, slowed, stopped. Thick globs of molten gold dripped down onto his chest, setting the scarlet silk to smoldering … yet no drop of blood was spilled. He was no dragon, Dany thought, curiously calm. Fire cannot kill a dragon.

The same fate happened to Marcus Licinius Crassus. One of the members of the first triumvirate of ancient Rome. When he lost his battle against the Parthians, it is said they gave him a crown of molten gold. True story.
@32:53: there are several ways of getting South from behind the Wall: 1/ by sea 2/ by climbing up and down the Wall (groups of Wildlings do it regularly to pillage the Gift (= the lands close to the Wall on the southern side) 3/ by using secret passages through the Wall (you have to know them and even so, they are hard to find).
Viserys' death is inspired by what happened to a Roman general in real life. Crassus, the guy who killed Spartacus and was a contemporary of Julius Caesar, had molten gold poured in his throat after the Parthians defeated him.
It was mentioned earlier that many of the castles on the Wall are unmanned, so the wildlings are able to sneak through certain stretches. Only three of the nineteen castles of the Wall have garrisons.

Wildlings can go around the wall by boat. they can also scale the wall, the nights watch isnt exactly well manned to keep eyes along the entire length of the wall. Also the wildlings arent exactly that much different than the "hillfolk tribes" south of the wall. almost like the "hillfolk" are just wildlings south of the wall who set up a home.
so a summery on Viserys, Viserys ended up the way he did because he lost his mom young, never knew his father's insanity and genuinely believed the Usurper's rebellion was based on lies. He had to take care of Dany alone, even though he was just a kid himself. Growing up in hiding made it worse-everyone in Essos only pretended to respect him, stringing him along with fake promises just in case the Targaryens came back into power to use him as a bargaining chip, They made fun of him made empty promises about helping him while housing him before throwing them out and he became known as "The Begger King", When he had to sell their mother’s crown, it broke him. After that, he wasn’t just bitter; he turned cruel and angry.
Actually viserays as a boy was sort of chilling good hearted but his years in exile hardened him and after selling his mothers crown eliminated the last of humanity he had
Usually I find reactors through GoT and branch out into their other content, but with y'all it was an enjoyable Breaking Bad and now we're here into another masterpiece. Loving the reactions so far. Ned and Robert were basically raised together as wards to Jon Arryn in the Vale. They basically grew up there so he was legit a father to both of them: Ned as the 2nd son to his father (and therefore not the heir to Winterfell), Robert (who was heir to Storm's End, his family's ancestral seat) basically as way to strengthen alliances between the Vale and the Stormlands. Also really recommend the Histories and Lore videos after each season. The Season 1 version being really helpful in providing the backstory for Season 1's main characters.

my ONE complaint with this episode is the way the writers just straight up ignore real life in Vicerys' execution: a wood burning fire by itself can achieve maybe 1100 degrees F. In the book there is a fantastic and beutifully written dream sequence between the scene at the end of episode 5 and the beginning of this episode and its such a shame that they cut it becauise not only is it an amzing scene but it gives context clues to the central mystery of Jons identity. Anyway, it doesnt really detract from the quality of the season but dreams are an important aspect of ASOIAF that the show never really dares comit to.

Damn they started making death list fast.
the guy who plays Joffrey is a great dude.
Viserys' death is inspired by what happened to a Roman general in real life. Crassus, the guy who killed Spartacus and was a contemporary of Julius Caesar, had molten gold poured in his throat after the Parthians defeated him.
kinda forgot how much i LOVE this show!!!
It was mentioned earlier that many of the castles on the Wall are unmanned, so the wildlings are able to sneak through certain stretches. Only three of the nineteen castles of the Wall have garrisons.
I've seen a few reactions/reviews for GoT and this MIGHT be my favorite, the just down right roasting is on point with how the audience feels for these characters. Season 1 is so freaking good.
One of the most bad ass scenes in the show tbh
Also a "Golden Crown" can both refer to the Golden Crown that Drogo puts on Viserys and the "golden crown" of hair on Joffrey.. that is much unlike all of his ancestors
To Viserys: "You are the worst!"
Oh you sweet summer child...
I always really loved the name Dany came up with for her son. “Rhaego” is just clever
'I never loved my brothers.. sad thing for a man to admit. You were the brother i chose..' 🥲 Happy Halloween Diegesis! 🎃⚔🐲
The poor actor playing Joffrey, you bullied the heck out of him LOL.
Not really a lol moment, Jack Gleeson doesn't deserve that. He's a very nice guy in real life, this wasn't a good look by the reactors
@MrChatsarecool I know he is but them connecting him to the character he plays is a testament to how good he acted. It is funny to see people rage about him.
@@-ACE.But they aren't just raging about his character. They're making fun of how he looks.
@brownsey1 I think because he acted the role really well they bought the idea that he's a bad guy and made association with his look. He looks normal so whatever they said it's really about Joffrey not jack.
@-ACE. That's just being an apologist for them. The second Arianna saw Joffrey on screen, she stated he had no chin 😅 Come on, they are smart people. They can separate a character from the actor.
They think Jorah is platonic lmfao
Thought the same. It’s really pretty obvious he loves her.
From what I've heard Daenarys is supposed to look a lot like Jorah's ex-wife...
Making useless notes while the show does its world building. Great stuff
Yeah ikr. Game of Thrones isn't an overly complicated show, not any more complicated than anything else they've watched. The note taking is just unnecessary imo
I feel like Sansa is so over hated and people forget shes just a 13 year old girl trying to navigate very adult situations and politics and a lot is expected of her and her dog was killed which most likely would have happened whether she told the truth or not.
The different House sigils when swearing made me lol 😂
The moment when they realized what "The seed is strong" meant. I had the same reaction.
much love and respect to Maple for the ADTR quote! Fucking love those guys!
This reaction needed you two to call people “bitch” even more times. Hysterical!
The floors of the sky cells are angled. They slope to the edge so that a sleeping person would tend in that direction.
Between the insane amount of note writing and her constant interjections idk how Arianna understands anything that’s happening😂
I love knowing and watching both you break it down!
Girls, careful about searching for info about game of thrones, like searching Jeoffrey's age. You might get spoilers for other stuff.
You guys are really getting into the spirit of this brutal world. 😂
"Sometimes money is an abstract concept."😆 It's really difficult to fool dumb people sometimes.
The recap convo: The Barthareons lol. You'll get the names down, its very tough at first! Glad you're watching the show! :) You're catching a lot of hints! Well done!
@11:25: ‘Here I stand’ are also House Mormont’s words 😊
Wildlings can go around the wall by boat. they can also scale the wall, the nights watch isnt exactly well manned to keep eyes along the entire length of the wall. Also the wildlings arent exactly that much different than the "hillfolk tribes" south of the wall. almost like the "hillfolk" are just wildlings south of the wall who set up a home.
The Chappel Roan line got me 😭😂
I love the note taking - awesome.
Yall were hilarious this episode. Love the reactions.
"Disrespect your surroundings!"
17:59 Shoutouts to Sir Beric Dondarrion the Recasted
“Fire cannot kill the Dragon” one of the best lines
also a complete lie
so a summery on Viserys, Viserys ended up the way he did because he lost his mom young, never knew his father's insanity and genuinely believed the Usurper's rebellion was based on lies. After that, he wasn’t just bitter; he turned cruel and angry.
it's really fun watching you two get so into the show! 😁
Those are the kind of comments that made Jack Gleeson (Joffrey) give up acting. Though he is making a comeback soon.
They just reacted to the histories and lore as a patreon exclusive, and they didn't like it. Neither did most of the people on the patreon either lol.
@@Johnspartan296 Good to know. Ha, really?? That's usually the opposite than most reactors but fair enough. At least they gave it a shot.
My personal opinion is the Robert's Rebellion bit is some of the coolest backstory out there but to each their own.
@@joeyken81 There's a lot of drama going on in the patreon regarding it lmao. Normally they post 2 game of thrones episode reactions every Thursday, but today they decided to do the lore for seasons 1 and 2. Well, the people that were expecting normal episodes were unhappy with missing out, and then the few people that did want them to watch the lore are unhappy that the girls didn't like it. Literally no one is happy with them right now lol.
@Johnspartan296 oh boy! That's some interesting drama lol. Wait did they watch the season 2 lore before watching season 2? If so, no wonder they didn't like it. While there are no real spoilers you don't have a connection to the characters until after the season.
@@joeyken81 No, they're up to season 3 episode 3 on the Patreon. They decided to watch the season 1 and 2 lore videos now because they couldn't find the time to do them otherwise, they just didn't properly inform anyone that they were doing it instead of normal episodes lol. I personally hope they don't watch more lore videos. They found them to be boring, and I feel the same.
Joffrey's appearance is a real actor lol
Show Robb: "Let him go and I'll let you live"
Book Robb: "Let him go and I promise you a quick death"
HBO pushing those boundaries as usual..
You two seriously need to watch *OZARK* next!! One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
23:03 omg such good content how do they do it lol
20:50 Maple that death looked really REAL didn't it
my ONE complaint with this episode is the way the writers just straight up ignore real life in Vicerys' execution: a wood burning fire by itself can achieve maybe 1100 degrees F. In order to melt gold, you need 1947 degrees F. Drogo putting that belt in the pot WOULD NOT have melted it, NO WAY......
I also hate how the writers just ignore that dragons don't even exist in real life. Like what's up with that?
I have been enjoying your reactions up until now. Basing a person's personality on the basis of their thin lips or facial appearance is wild.
Ned's dream is so important that them cutting it seems weird in retrospect, "Promise me" being introduced early is pretty big.
