You need to read the Witcher books Ciri is bisexual in them. Has a tattoo she got when in a relationship with one girl. That girl now being passed away. In the Witcher 3 you even were able to show interest in both a man and woman but nothing came of it other then Ciri spending time in the spa with the lady as she was healing up.
Ciri's "beautiful lesbian romance" in the books: She's 13, lost, traumatised, starved, beaten up, taken in by a gang of young bandits. First night she's almost taken advantage of by one of the guys, he's stopped by one of the girls, Mistle, who then proceeds to take advantage of Ciri herself. There wasn't any consent from Ciri, in fact she froze. Granted, Mistle was gentle and Ciri's body reacted on its own because that was the first sign of any affection she experienced in weeks. Soon after she gets hooked on drugs and violence, all bad habits of her confused young mind are enabled and enhanced by the gang. Yes, now she's actively participating in the "relationship" with Mistle, but is it really consensual if she's pretty much high as a kite 24/7? The gang, including the girlfriend, all get murdered by a bounty hunter who keeps Ciri as his pet, because he likes her Witcher-style sword skills, end of "romance". That "relationship" was wrong in all its aspects so quoting it as evidence of Ciri's orientation is comparable to defending same-sex grooming (which coincidentally would fit the DEI crowd like a glove).

I love the idiots that always say "politics has always been in games". Metal Gear was a franchise heavy on the politics. But the politics is part of why people love it so much, apart from it being able to be thought provoking and amusingly dumb at the same time. The games compelled you to think, but not to the point of forcing you to believe what its developers wanted you to believe.
@@zen_7748 same with disco elysium actually, the politics is built into the gameplay, and while its heavy handed in approach, the narrator is out for EVERYONES blood, not just "the bad ones". Some of the devs were self admitted communists, and when you choose to go communist in the game the first thing the narrator says is something to the effect of "time to bust out the firing squads and starve millions". A woke game would have extolled the virtues of communism without any nuance, and berated the player for choosing anything else. But, yknow, the devs didnt care about using their media as activism.

The ESG thing goes deeper, because it also involves big funds like Vanguard and BlackRock (well connected to the US Fed) taking enough of a stake in many companies to make them an influential shareholder. Plus the scoring affects executive compensation and investor ratings for the firms. Some companies are deeper in this mess than others, sadly.

Plus, with how it goes nowadays, source are no longer being followed to the letter. CDPR didn't move to Boston, but they're opening up a new studio in Boston (and they'll be the ones making Cyberpunk games in the future, including Cyberpunk 2). CDPR died the moment they became a publicly traded company.
Got Cyberpunk 2077 two years after release so the bugs and issues were mostly fixed by the time I played it and what was left were minor things that were only a problem for immersion ie floating trash and grass in the Arasaka tower after killing Adam Smasher, and I loved the game. In fact, it is one of the best games I have played of the 2020s so far. Phantom Liberty was also a really good DLC so I was looking forward to the sequel, but now CDPR can kiss my money goodbye.

CDPR is dead. Everyone who mattered, with the right skills and talent to craft the previous Witcher titles, like Elvis, has left the building. They're gone now. Let's face it, 9 out of 10 games that have been in the pipeline for the last 5-7 years are going to be completely infested with this idiocy. They went from "CD Projekt RED!" to "Seedy project, Red." To follow up one of the best games of all time, and the redemption of 2077 as well, to being lost to their long term fans, who LITERALLY made them the millionaires they are and supported and loved them and the games is fecking ridiculous.
They did it to themselves. Releasing CP2077 in the state they did lead to serious financial repercussions just before the cough hit, and right as CDPR was investing to grow the business. A perfect storm. They needed the money - or, more specifically, the lower interest rates on massive loans that can only come from a high(er) ESG score - and they took it. Time to pay the ferryman . . .
That dev completely misses the point as to why people don't like the modern DEI trend in media. You can make a game that explores themes of politics and identity if it's well written, subtle and shows both sides of a complex topic. The problem with modern DEI slop is that it is poorly written and so heavy handed that it simply condemns one side and acts as if the other side is purely righteous. It is also shoehorned into everything and relies on tokens. Gender or race swapping a character is not creative and it's not subtle, it's lazy and does the bare minimum to meet some arbitrary "diversity" threshold.
It's propaganda vs theme exploration. 86 is a great example of how racism is explored in a nuanced way - how even those who are the "oppressed" are racist themselves when they attacked a mixed character for her half heritage to the oppressors despite being in the exact situation as the rest of the 86. You wouldn't get this kind of nuance in current western media you'd only get this group bad because racism.

Witcher 3 is not Woke. I don't mind a balance of sexual viewpoints where no viewpoint is pushed. CP2077 and BG3 have DEI content, but again I don't mind that much in that it's easy to ignore. It's not in your face ugly. But I can't tolerate games where beautiful characters (women) are shut out or vilified. Or like in the new DA4 coming out has a Qunari stating that he's non-binary! I can't support this crap. I've mostly switched to JRPG games. Takes a little getting used to, but there's tons of really great games to play. Don't buy DEI games and eventually the publishers will hear from their stock holders. They won't listen to gamers, just the investors. Look at Ubisoft. CDPR replaced Bioware, as my favprite developer, after Bioware fell from grace in the early 2010s.. When CDPR lied to us about what cp2077 would be, and then the popr state it released, they lost all my respect and support going forward.. When they released that video, pledging themselves to ESG/DEI, they officially ☠️ to me! They are one more, of many, that have placed themselves on my boycott list. And unlike most gamers, I actually have principles, and stick to them!

What? In 2020 there were a lot of refunds, but despite pressure from their investors, the whole debacle was solved. Not to mention the amount of copies game sold after EdgeRunners then again when the DLC released. CDPR wasnt nearly close to bankrupting and the game eventually exploded again with the anime release and DLC. Now its being compared to other bad games to make CP2077 look even better. I've been playing Metaphor ReFantazio and your assumptions are correct. It is a very politically focused, character driven story that touches on issues of discrimination and tribalism. But the reason the "grifters" as they love to call us aren't upset about it is because it fits in the world of the game and not a single character has looked at the screen and said "Priapus lives matter" or "stop the transRoussainte genocide"
If the main big companies want to make a truly diverse character, they should make their main character a competent White Male, because that's something we don't really see.

I haven't read the books but from what I hear, Ciri is indeed bisexual. The good thing about Witcher 3 is that they don't throw her sexuality in your face nor it becomes her identity. But given the trajectory CDPR is seemingly taking, you can bet they will latch on to that aspect of her character as an excuse to inject every woke garbage to the story.

I'll be playing Monster Hunter: Wilds beta on the week of the 28th. Dragon Age is about to die and I don't want to see it. I'll play it when the price inevitably drops. FFXVI was a master class in putting social issues into a game the RIGHT way. If any of these DEI companies still want their nonsense to be put in games, the least they could do is learn how to do it right. They are so hamfisted about it.

I got the game on launch and played it on my OG PS4... I don't know if the God's were favouring me but I had very little bugs and absolutely LOVED the game lol... however I do realise that I am one of the very few that got this. Nowadays the game is fantastic anyway... I do not have any high hopes for a new one with all the woke nonsense though.
For every 20 games that crash and burns, we get 1 solid new game. And that is enough, as we have a backlog. We have 30 years of quality we can play, across all platforms (emulators). It's the same with film and tv, there is an almost unlimited amount of quality content to watch or rewatch. So we don't need them, they need US.

As for Metaphor, it's an Atlus game. Meaning it has gay themes and identity themes in it. But they're often told genuinely and those characters don't try to rub their identity on you or teach you a valuable lesson. They are just normal people, written like every other character.
Uh... I'm sorry, but the characters in Metaphor were painfully generic, naive and poorly written. They have one note, barely any growth and are stereotypes, to say nothing about the red haired elf girl acting like a generic female character in modern day, AKA women acting like men. Because that's original, we haven't seen that before. Not to mention the story tries WAY too hard to shoehorn in talks about Racism, Immigration and Unity. Normally I'd be fine with that, assuming they were written well. But, guess what? They ain't written well! These issues are told AND approached in the most childish and naive way possible, as it wants to pull the stereotypical black and white approach.. Even the PERSONA games KNEW this approach was awful, hence WHY there was ALWAYS a catch 22 or grey zone to consider. What's this games excuse? Whoever wrote this trash has never once encountered, dealt with OR researched these complex issues in ANY capacity, which shows their inexperience as a writer. There is a reason why writers try to experience the world as much as possible, because their experiences SHAPE their writing. To say nothing about the terrible main story that falls apart in the 2nd half of the game, the censorship that had occurred during development, the combat that is a downgrade compared to Persona, the gameplay being painfully easy on the hardest difficulties, etc etc. Metaphor is not a good game and it's a badly written game at that. Atlus can make good games, but whoever from the Persona teams made this game, clearly weren't the good devs or they were heavily held in control by the higher ups, because Metaphor is a painfully childish and naive game made by people who want to act like Unity is the end goal, when they can't even figure out how complex of an issue Racism and Classism TRULY is... And you can't have Unity if you don't understand that. Oh and the localization was disgustingly bad. But what do I expect, it was localized by people like Katrina Leonoudakis. Lmao. I'm so glad I got my game refunded, what a piece of trash game.

The best games that discuss politics are the ones that present every side neutrally and let's you decide who's right, who's wrong, or if you stand somewhere in the middle. BioShock is a great example. To this very day, there are discussions in the fandom about whether or not Rapture COULD work in some form.
I remember applying to CDPR. Had a decent amount of experience until then. 2022 was the year I applied. Never saw my application. And not once, but 7-8 times. So ya, they don't even implement DEI in the right manner it seems. It's all for show, not doing it on the ground level. As an Indian, I was in Sweden and working there. However, every place I worked, I used to be fired in my probation period only. Reason? Well, I just wasn't talking or acting like a Swedish person. Well, duh, I won't, I wasn't born in Sweden, neither grew up there. This is where DEI is actually required. The ESG thing goes deeper, because it also involves big funds like Vanguard and BlackRock (well connected to the US Fed) taking enough of a stake in many companies to make them an influential shareholder. Got Cyberpunk 2077 two years after release so the bugs and issues were mostly fixed by the time I played it and what was left were minor things that were only a problem for immersion ie floating trash and grass in the Arasaka tower after killing Adam Smasher, and I loved the game. In fact, it is one of the best games I have played of the 2020s so far. Phantom Liberty was also a really good DLC so I was looking forward to the sequel, but now CDPR can kiss my money goodbye.

That dev completely misses the point as to why people don't like the modern DEI trend in media. You can make a game that explores themes of politics and identity if it's well written, subtle and shows both sides of a complex topic. The problem with modern DEI slop is that it is poorly written and so heavy handed that it simply condemns one side and acts as if the other side is purely righteous. It is also shoehorned into everything and relies on tokens. Gender or race swapping a character is not creative and it's not subtle, it's lazy and does the bare minimum to meet some arbitrary "diversity" threshold.

What? In 2020 there were a lot of refunds, but despite pressure from their investors, the whole debacle was solved. Not to mention the amount of copies game sold after EdgeRunners then again when the DLC released. CDPR wasnt nearly close to bankrupting and the game eventually exploded again with the anime release and DLC. Now its being compared to other bad games to make CP2077 look even better. I've been playing Metaphor ReFantazio and your assumptions are correct. It is a very politically focused, character driven story that touches on issues of discrimination and tribalism. But the reason the "grifters" as they love to call us aren't upset about it is because it fits in the world of the game and not a single character has looked at the screen and said "Priapus lives matter" or "stop the transRoussainte genocide"

I haven't read the books but from what I hear, Ciri is indeed bisexual. The good thing about Witcher 3 is that they don't throw her sexuality in your face nor it becomes her identity. But given the trajectory CDPR is seemingly taking, you can bet they will latch on to that aspect of her character as an excuse to inject every woke garbage to the story.

FFXVI was a master class in putting social issues into a game the RIGHT way. If any of these DEI companies still want their nonsense to be put in games, the least they could do is learn how to do it right. They are so hamfisted about it.

I got the game on launch and played it on my OG PS4... I don't know if the God's were favouring me but I had very little bugs and absolutely LOVED the game lol... however I do realise that I am one of the very few that got this. Nowadays the game is fantastic anyway... I do not have any high hopes for a new one with all the woke nonsense though.

We have 30 years of quality we can play, across all platforms (emulators). It's the same with film and tv, there is an almost unlimited amount of quality content to watch or rewatch. So we don't need them, they need US.

As for Metaphor, it's an Atlus game. Meaning it has gay themes and identity themes in it. But they're often told genuinely and those characters don't try to rub their identity on you or teach you a valuable lesson. They are just normal people, written like every other character.

Uh... I'm sorry, but the characters in Metaphor were painfully generic, naive and poorly written. They have one note, barely any growth and are stereotypes, to say nothing about the red haired elf girl acting like a generic female character in modern day, AKA women acting like men. Because that's original, we haven't seen that before.
Not to mention the story tries WAY too hard to shoehorn in talks about Racism, Immigration and Unity. Normally I'd be fine with that, assuming they were written well. But, guess what? They ain't written well! These issues are told AND approached in the most childish and naive way possible, as it wants to pull the stereotypical black and white approach.. Even the PERSONA games KNEW this approach was awful, hence WHY there was ALWAYS a catch 22 or grey zone to consider. What's this games excuse?
Whoever wrote this trash has never once encountered, dealt with OR researched these complex issues in ANY capacity, which shows their inexperience as a writer. There is a reason why writers try to experience the world as much as possible, because their experiences SHAPE their writing.
To say nothing about the terrible main story that falls apart in the 2nd half of the game, the censorship that had occurred during development, the combat that is a downgrade compared to Persona, the gameplay being painfully easy on the hardest difficulties, etc etc.
Metaphor is not a good game and it's a badly written game at that. Atlus can make good games, but whoever from the Persona teams made this game, clearly weren't the good devs or they were heavily held in control by the higher ups, because Metaphor is a painfully childish and naive game made by people who want to act like Unity is the end goal, when they can't even figure out how complex of an issue Racism and Classism TRULY is... And you can't have Unity if you don't understand that.
Oh and the localization was disgustingly bad. But what do I expect, it was localized by people like Katrina Leonoudakis. Lmao. I'm so glad I got my game refunded, what a piece of trash game.

Cubituss is so incorrect it’s laughable. Even someone with a limited knowledge of the Witcher knows that it’s not about politics in the real world. It’s a grim dark fantasy world that has magic, monsters, people called Witchers designed to fight against the evils of that world for a price.

The best games that discuss politics are the ones that present every side neutrally and let's you decide who's right, who's wrong, or if you stand somewhere in the middle. BioShock is a great example. To this very day, there are discussions in the fandom about whether or not Rapture COULD work in some form.

I remember applying to CDPR. Had a decent amount of experience until then. 2022 was the year I applied. Never saw my application. And not once, but 7-8 times. So ya, they don't even implement DEI in the right manner it seems. It's all for show, not doing it on the ground level. As an Indian, I was in Sweden and working there. However, every place I worked, I used to be fired in my probation period only. Reason? Well, I just wasn't talking or acting like a Swedish person. Well, duh, I won't, I wasn't born in Sweden, neither grew up there. This is where DEI is actually required. When a person you hire isn't from your home country, you give that person that extra amount of space for them to adjust and not kick them out because they are not behaving a certain way. It doesn't happen overnight that you can switch your base personality.
