Hi Everyone and Welcome to Promethean Sewing Machines, where I am unashamedly rebelliously creative when it comes to taking old forgotten sewing machines and bringing them back to life in a beautiful way.
    Meet my new project:
This week I am beginning the process of restoring this Franklin Shuttle Sewing Machine. He is a rusty crusty boy. It took a while and maybe a couple glasses of wine off camera but I got it done. This is really a Singer 27 clone so a lot of the Singer 27 parts transfer over to this machine. Enjoy!

My wife and I are so pleased that you agreed to tackle this rusty old girl. Was pretty exciting to see you tear her down. Can’t wait to see her finished. Thanks again!

WOW!!! The decals on this girl are AMAZING!!! It's a shame that there are no straight replacements for them. Great job of getting her parts unglued from each other. Looking forward to seeing her progress. 👍💕

Wow. That was a mess and I can't wait to see what you do with her. And..... I hope the family is very appreciative of your hard work. Like you said, the machine has history. Would be nice to get her working again.

WOW... What a chore! It makes me worried about a treadle machine I acquired from a friend. I will probably ask you to work on the machine at some time in the future as I would not begin to have the courage to disassemble something as intricate & delicate as these machines are. You're definitely a master & have the patience of a saint. Can't wait to see her transformation... I'm sure you'll turn her into a real beauty! Thanks for sharing!

This one was a nail biter getting it apart! It reminded me of my totally froze up 27 treadle (I honestly did the happy dance when it finally began to move freely), and it was very similar with how things went together. Looking forward to seeing what's in store for this old girl.

This is an epic to rival The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur and Cleopatra combined!! Good luck, you've done incredibly well just to get everything out. I'm pretty sure when it goes back together, regardless of what happens in the end to paint job and decals, it'll be sewing better than it has in many decades.

@@prometheansewingmachines It was gripping - I couldn't turn away! I was cheering you on from down here in New Zealand, so excited when you got those slide plates out I'm surprised you didn't hear the cheer from here. :-)

I love seeing this machine being restored. I recently got an old singer treadle converted to electric. Had same issue with bobbin winder. I got a smaller belt to switch between when I need to wind the long bobbins. Works like charm. Enjoy!😊

It's good to see you in the work room again. I've started cleaning all the parts you helped me remove from my machine. This is a good reminder but glad I don't have that much rust to contend with just some old oil and dirt.

I've watched a handful of your videos. I'm very much attracted to these older beautiful machines. I've seen Singers advertised online for sale as well as some of these Franklin's. Cleaning a machine like you do in these is up my alley bc I like fine detail work as well. I appreciate what you show here immensely.
My question is - if I'm looking for a treadle machine does it matter if it's a Singer vs Franklin and do they have any major differences that affect the sewing process?
Thank you for being a great presenter & teacher 💫

So first of all this is just my opinion, and everyone has their own opinion. But I would recommend getting a singer 66 or 27/127 if you're wanting a treadle to use. The reason is I know that these machines are well made and replacement parts are easy to find, and there are a lot of resources and videos out showing how to work on them. Of course there's a lot of other brands of treadmills, I own many of them and love them all. But for ease of use, replacements parts, and having a big open harp area and bed to work on those are the two that I would suggest.

Thank you very much. I've been learning what I can as time allows the last few yrs. That makes feel better about Singer and that's what I've been perusing for.
I went to a sewing museum and that was a really eye opening visit.
Thank you for the work you do on this page. Each time I watch I'm inspired to not give up & keep searching. Not sure if I'll ever be able to dip paint as you've shown.
Do you have a video Playlist where you introduce the equipment involved with these transformations?

Marie, may I ask where can I buy a replace cord for an old machine I bought?

    • @prometheansewingmachines
      @prometheansewingmachines  5 месяцев назад

In general I found that you can find it on amazon. The exact cord though is going to depend on the machine. If you can send me an email with a photo of where it plugs into your machine then I'll try to find a link for you.
