Great first episode. I am looking forward to this series. Mr. Grimes you are a big inspiration to myself and probably many others. We all appreciate your time and knowledge you are contributing to producing these videos.
Dangle the carrot! Anticipating the next episode and looking forward to the HDR shoot Joel is going to show us! A great take-away was Joel's implied advice about deciding how you will creatively use technical equipment (because "technical equipment can't make creative decisions").
We are so lucky to have an opportunity like this..where artists are so open to allow us to look into their work and their behind the scenes process! I love Joel. He is so honest and so grounded! I love him!
Joel.... I have watched these amazing videos maybe almost more than 20 times and analyze them second by second and i have to admit its really hard to avoid copy your style at least once to get that lighting effects... they are amazing, no doubt... but what is more amazing is that how blessed me and many other photographers are to get access to life time experience gained through challenges by a top notch photographer like you just by some clicks and I thoroughly appreciate for that. Cheers and God bless
general question, if i take a landscape photo & have electric wires in picture do i have to take them out of all 3 or 5 exposures before i turn it into an HDR or can i do it after it is an HDR image? i have Nik software.
He is colour blind and doesn't see green very well so it is easier for him to shoot on white. Plus it can be quicker as green screens can cause a lot of problems with colour fringing and spill back which take a while to fix in post.
His pictures are nice but too much shoped, sometimes they doesn't blend well in the background picture. And he is true in lot of things, pay attention here, ligthing is most important thing and then maybe some glass and then camera. You can never make it better in Photoshop if its piece of shit from the begining. :)
Too awesome.... Joel Grimes and Framed together???? This is gonna be GREAT!
Just started re-watching this series. Probably *the* one most helpful thing I have seen on the subject of portrait lighting. A must-see, IMHO.
I absolutely love Joel's photography and his awesome videos. What he can do with one light is very inspiring. One of my favorite photgraphers

Great, it would be nice if you could make a video on that "narrow beam" look. Because that was just an awesome portrait!!
Muito legal !!! Bom professor.

Green screen can give a green cast too.

Just because some people get paid to do what they do.. doesn't necessarily mean they are motivated by money or dictated to creatively.. :)
LitUp - Episode 1: Introduction
I have a question.
Why do people post comments like this?
AshtonPhoto To justify their existence ;-) ???
There is only a limited amount one can learn from talking. Photoshop is obviously big to get these looks as well as correct lighting.
how i do a photo like that with this afroamerikan girl at 05:00??
Wow. Someone complains that the music intro is too loud? What about the awesome content????
Time to get a life I think.
Sorry - but compared to the rest of the video the music in the in- and outro is way too loud.
