My 2 spelljammer character ideas so far:
1- A giff eldritch knight because I like the idea of a giff being able to cast spells and summon a musket at any time. Also, imagine if the DM just gave the giff a machine gun.
2- A plasmoid wizard that’s just a blob wearing a wizard hat. Because why not?

Currently making a Giff Celestial Warlock who's the captain of a Spelljammer ship, the hook of my next campaign! Giff make for awesome casters since they can stay at range with their firearms proficiency and use the power of GUN to circumvent any spell-slot overuse.

I made 3 character ideas when the races were revealed and I’ve been tweaking them for when I actually get to play!
1 - Hadozee bard that simply wishes to travel Wild space and bring back tales to tell her people
2 - A plasmoid moon Druid for the reasons you actually mentioned in this video (Fear the giant gummy Owl Bear)
3 - Thri-kreen alchemist with a fancy goop backpack that acts as a prosthetic for they’re missing arms

Idk why, but I feel like the Ardlings from the new Playtest material would work very well in Spelljammer. Maybe they (or one of their ancestors) fell into a Color Pool and reappeared in the Wildspace?

Let me list my ideas for a Plasmoid of each class
    (That I have ideas for)
Artificer: armorer cause slime in a mech suit sounds familiar to me, maybe alchemist using yourself as potion components
    Barbarian: spiked slime (battle rager)
Bard: creation bard: makes things out of its slime
Cleric: a sentient red ooze healing potion
    Druid: wildfire oil ooze druid
Fighter: ruin knight to be a giant gelatinous cube
Monk: Drunken Fist cause your ooze consist of alcohol. A booze ooze who really packs a punch ;D
    Paliden: holy water slime
Ranger: Gloomstalker black pudding or swarm ranger that’s a honey ooze
    Rogue: Psionic grey soul ooze
Sorcerer: storm sourcerer to be an electric ooze
    Wizard: evocation ice ooze.

This character idea may be spontaneous and a mish-mash inspired by Ravenloft and Spelljammers setting and mostly Ben 10.... What if a plasmoid is reflavored as an animate mass of wraps/bandages? Like a mummy but not undead. They unravel and slip thru a 1 inch gap and pseudopods are like extentiins of their bandages.

  • @GoblinLord

note on the Space Ghosts, It could also fit as a good Swarmkeeper/phantom, Swarm for the ghost itself, and possibly it phasing you manually for the big abilities both (phasing for Phantom or the pseudo misty step for Ranger)
also a dip into sorc for draconic as a Lunar Phantom Rogue
absolutely love this setting with all my heart and I think it's one of the best settings in dnd, especially since it can be used to visit any other setting, take a trip to Eberron for a quick one shot or take a dive into the new Dragonlance setting, or invert it, if Spelljamming is canon, you can be someone from Krynn who took a ship to Forgotten Realms to run away from an old life

I've got a fun/nightmarish character build/concept for anyone who wants to use it.
Plasmoid Beast Barbarian with some Rogue levels (expertise in stealth) and play like the monster from Carrion. Slip through gaps, grow fangs or claws and get the drop on enemies. Add 6 levels of College of Whispers Bard so you can kill enemies and disguise yourself as them and now you're playing as the Thing. Make sure you take expertise in Deception so that while you're disguised as an enemy you can accuse another enemy of being you like the game Prototype.
Have fun playing as an amorphous alien monster. I know I would. 😈

I'm a new player, shin-deep into Light of Xaryxis with my closest friends who are also, mostly, new players. We started with Spelljammer Academy, which takes place mostly on Toril, so I decided to be an autognome artificer who was built by a gnomish inventor in the Tinkers Guild as a workshop assistant. He gained sentience and was sponsored by his creator to become a member of the guild all his own, to suit the Guild Member background, and eventually nominated for Spelljammer Academy. My DM and I decided that we can flavor the Tinkers Guild in this campaign as an interplanetary organization, where my creator may be well known and renowned on several bodies.
Last session, we pulled up to a mage's tower out in wildspace where she kept a personal workforce of 8 autognomes that all look just like my character, and explained they were obtained from his creator! Of course they aren't sentient like my bot, but I look forward to where this is leading and am thinking on how this might affect my character's sense of identity, how he might begin to treat them now they've been recruited to crew out ship. I'm beginning to draw inspiration from the story of Vivi the black mage in Final Fantasy IX, if you're familiar with that.

I've actually got a whole friend group of Half-Elf, Half-Thri-Kreen based on different kinds of Moth's for the Spelljammer's Campaign, there's:
Luna Birchwood - A Half-Moon Elf, Half-Thri-Kreen Order of the Scribes Wizard based on a Luna Moth with a personality that's basically Elle Woods from "Legally Blonde" meets Sypha Belnades from "Castlevania", she's bubbly, out-going, can-do, happy-go-lucky, a bit of a ditz but is quite serious about education in the Spelljammers Academy.
Rosinca "Rosy" Maplewood - A Half-Spring Eladrin Elf, Half-Thri-Kreen Swarmkeeper Ranger based on a Rosy Maple Moth with a very Southern Belle personality to her who grew up on a farm & grows a variety of plant-themed weaponry akin to the plants seen in the "Plants vs. Zombies" Franchise.
Calavera "Cali" Nightshade - A Half-Drow Elf, Half-Thri-Kreen Grave Domain Cleric based on a Death's Head Hawkmoth with a goth-like personality like Jade West from "Victorious" & wits like Sam from "Danny Phantom" who also happens to read tarot cards as a hobby.
& finally there's Lacey Willows - A Half-Pallid Elf, Half-Thri-Kreen Armorer Artificer based on a Satin Moth with a very Fashionista personality who specializes in producing stylish outfits that act alot like magical suits of armor.

Oh, & while this one isn't a Half-Elf, Half-Thri-Kreen, I still wanted to throw him in there, but, I actually came up with a Plasmoid made out of paint named Roy G. Biv, his backstory is he was accidentally made by his father-figure, a Wild Magic Sorcerer, when one of his rogue spells hit a can of paint of every single color of the rainbow, & while I don't really see him being in Spelljammers, I can definitely see him in the Prismari School of Strixhaven!

A Reborn Great Old Warlock that had their memories wiped away by the Psychic Winds of the Astral Sea would be cool, especially if their power actually comes from their former memories rather than some unknown entity. (Even if the next campaign I play in isn't Spelljammer, I may just play that character anyway. Right now, playing a Human Fighter in Waterdeep)

Amidst the outrage of overpricing for what is deemed less, loss of canon lore, little new spells and ship combat deeming bad due to not being in depth Ryker comes in as a bubble for fresh air. Sir, I thank you for your timely intervention.
Im happy spelljammer came out, its been one of the more interesting unorthodox settings from the adnd 2e era and its release means spelljammer supplements are fair game on dmsguild.
As for what i wanted to play as in spelljammer... A human artillerist with a crossbow angle fancies me. As much as id love to try firearms i plan to add back some old spelljammer lore back whilst reconciling with the new stuff as well. An example would be travel where in the old lore spelljammers travel to the different systems through the rainbow space tunnels called the phlogiston but the caveat is you cant use fire magic lest you get yourself and a few others alight. New lore dropped the phlogiston in favor of directly sailing through the astral sea. For me id use the phlogiston as like the well travelled trading sea routes and directly sailing through the astral sea as if you are sailing through uncharted waters irl.

      @andrewtyrell4795 2 года назад

@@rpgchronicler I was thinking about how to include the phlogiston in the new version of the settings and I had an idea.
The phlogiston is sealed away in a number of crystal spheres (since Light of Xaryxis has evidence that they still exist) but some of the spheres have cracked and phlogiston is leaking into the astral plane. It is drawn to wild space creating streams of phlogiston connecting dozens of wild space systems with high speed currents. Maybe the streams pass in and out of wild space or maybe it collects at the border.
      Adventure hooks could include:
-the phlogiston stream is drifting closer to the sun. If it ignites it'll hamper trade
-phlogiston is harmful to the gods or the astral plane so you must seek out high level magic to seal the cracked spheres.
-pirates are raiding ships on the phlogiston streams but nobody knows where they're coming from.

    ...yeah...
    5E Spelljammer is NOT Spelljammer...
I dont even know where to begin on all the simplifications and just no bothering to put the work in...but this was an overpriced, under-developed module, that should have been a Multiverse Campaign Setting...instead its a failure.
...Space isnt Airless...its THIN-AIR... like being up a really high mountain. You can breath if you're acclimatised to it, but its still problematic. "Wildspace" use to be the name for the space INSIDE the Crystal Sphere containing that D&D Setting...but apparently WotC didnt do their homework on why AD&D Spelljammer was the way it was...
...the Silvery Void? ...No...thats the Crystal Sphere, mate. And whats on the other side ISNT The Astral Sea...but the Phlogiston...
...why are you naming "Space" stuff...thats "Space" sciencey-stuff... not Fantasy. You need to think more in terms of John Carter of Mars...not Star Trek or Star Wars.
...Spelljammer Helm's aren't Chairs...they can be almost anything, as long as its connected to the Ship. A Chair is common, but so is a Steering Wheel. Dwarven Spelljammer's (ship) like using a Spelljamming Furnace, where they throw in MAGICAL ITEMS to produce the same effect. Undead have "Lifestealer Helms" like a Sarcophagus, that they put a living prisoner into, and it uses up their lifeforce for the same effect. Illithid use "Living Helms"...ummm...yeah, Illithid Nautiloids are alive creatures. Really, the best way to think of a Spelljammer Helm is to go watch yourself some Stargate! (Stargate is Spelljammer. Gao'uld Ships are driven from a Platform, and their ships run on Crystals. Ancients use a Chair that you sit and think in; same as Asgard. Wraith have ooey-gooey living insect ships that hoard living prisoners...Stargate is Spelljammer.)
...actually, its a bare-bones picking of Spelljammer ships... where's the different types of ships the races and factions use? Ok, there's a Starmoth...but what about the Warbird? The Armada? And Nautiloids are ment to be the catagory of ships all Illithids use... they then range from "Cutter" to "Dreadnaught", depending on the size. Also...no Pyramid ships of Ptah used by the Undead = 5E Spelljamer = 0 out of 10!
...No...its not "Space", its "FANTASY Space"... and WotC did a terrible job, at their job, of actually providing a setting book to explain what these different Settings mean!
    -----
I'll break down the concept of this 14th century idea... So, Imagine you're on a sail boat, the Port Town is your original World (lets say Greyhawk). You set out on your boat but just travel up the coast to the next port-town...thats travelling to the Feywild, still local, though. Now, you decide you're gonna head out to sea to try to find a new land...once you break past the coast, thats the Crystal Sphere; and the Open Sea is the Phlogiston. If you ducked your head below the water, you'd see the Ocean Depths...THATS the Astral Sea, a bit like a "subspace", but really like being "underwater" when out on the Phlogiston. When you find a new continent, thats a new Crystal Sphere, and a new D&D setting (in this case, Krynnspace/Dragonlance).
    -----
    Where's the Phlogiston?
    Where's the Crystal Spheres?
Where's Greyspace? Krynnspace? Darkspace? Herospace? Greatspace? Faeriespace? ...what the **** is Doomspace, and why should I care? Who cares about Realmspace now, anyway?
Why cant I mod my Spelljammer?
Why cant I upgrade my Spelljammer?
Why cant I use my Spelljammer?
What do you mean, "Ranged ship-to-ship combat is useless, so just get into player fighting range"?!?!
    But yeah...sure...
    Lets talk about Character Creation...
Artificers are exclusive an Eberron class, they dont exist in other Spaces, and Eberron (Siberspace) isn't connected to known Phlogiston pathways...
Divine Magic, based on the Alignment of your God, persists Outside of your home Crystal Sphere, but you wouldn't be able to commune with your God once you leave your home -space...
I get reflavouring, because WotC are super lazy...
But everyone SHOULD be aware of what makes a Setting a Setting in the first place...
