Lyrics:
An icy wind blows through the door
You feel like you've been here before
You tremble and you start to sweat
The symptoms of withdrawal
Alcohol
Why do you do it?
Why do you keep beating me?
You give some people a real good time
But you cause some untold misery
Heroin
Why do you do it?
I don't like what I've seen
You promise someone a real good time
And then you take them from their family
You tremble and you start to sweat
You don't want to withdraw
And when your flesh begins to crawl
You'd rather not be here at all
Alcohol
How do you do it?
Please don't do it to me
You give some people a real good time
But you cause some untold misery
Alcohol
Why do you do it?
You ain't gonna do it to me
You give some people a real good time
And you cause some untold misery

Rhoda Dakar is a fantastic singer. She gives this song pain & life.
Ever since i got into ska and learned of the specials I love the original lineup but as i get older the specials aka are growing on me Jerry dammers was a genius in his own right cheer from the usa hope the reunion tour went well. Biggups
well said , but the Specials were never Ska , they were 2 tone
Wells said!!
@@croydonablesame thing you goon, they started the 2 tone record label in 1979 together and played ska beats as a ska band
@@braedonmcknight154 Oh dear , if you don`t know the difference between Ska and 2Tone maybe its better you don`t comment .
It was Jerry btw who started the record label .
@@croydonable oh dear it seems you’re still a know it all goon same as a year ago lol I said “they” as in the specials as in Jerry dammers who founded 2 tone record but 2 tone is still just another way of describing ska
Probably my favourite track from In The Studio album. Love the instrument arrangement and the atmospheric mood it creates. One of Jerry's finest.
Rhoda Dakar absolutely nails it here.
This song needs to be longer, an hour should do it.
Absolutely spot on! 👍🏽
*cough* right click, loop *cough*
does someone else feel that this song was one of the first trip hop songs ever made or its just me?
would love to see Portishead do a cover
I hear it now...!🥃
@@rc-my9tc hell yeahhhh
Such a jazzy haunting tune...anyone who's been through DTs will feel this in the depths of their soul!
Whoa--never heard this one by them before. I'd better brush up on some Special AKA songs, then.
Prince rim shot John Bradbury on vintage tangerine. Sparkle premier drum rest in peace sad loss. To specials fans and ska drummer a true legend. The guitar intro sound like the opening to callan, classic riff indeed from G G bongo b nz
I love the way that pink noise goes through the low pass filter, brilliant tune.
I like the cajun New Orleans vibe this gives off
jerry dammers IS the specials - simple as that
Dammers is great! Love this style and attitude..
Rhoda is marvelous!!
Genius. I used to love "In the Studio" and had forgotten about it as it was from my vinyl listening days. Suddenly Nelson Mandela's dead and I'm on a musicastalgia fest.
Another great song - your music timeless
Świetnie zrealizowany videosong. Thank you 🍀
i think this is my favorite from them, love it

This Brandy is tasting pretty good and warm on my throat as I listen
This sounds like Portishead. Wow.
Still excellent in 2020
The best song of all time if you have probčems with drinking.
Big up from France 🇫🇷
oh Rhoda! Rhoda!
one love
I had the cassette of their album 'in the studio' when it first came out. I'd forgotten just how good they were, especially rhoda dakar, who excels vocally on this track and Stan Campbell on others
I think that special aka were criminally underrated. Their album didn't do very well, esp when compared to the specials. I thought that this album was better though. And it just confirms that jerry dampers was the driving creative force behind the specials. I mean fun boy three??!!!
The Special AKA were way ahead of Fun Boy Three lyrically, vocally and instrumentally but unfortunately not commercially.
good musik
Great Rhoda Daker (Bodysnatchers) Amazing !!!
Nice!
Woof!
wow
tsss de lujoo :)
Insightful. Chron Gen was very insightful too
listening to this while roll a fat morning weed
salud!
This whole album (In the Studio - Special AKA) had some amazing tracks (this, Break Down the Door, etc). I think it was just some weird timing thing (or maybe because Terry & some of the others had left), but it never got the airplay it deserved, except of course for the massive impact of 'Free...Nelson Mandela' (it helped make it happen, eventually...).
It was possibly the topics of the songs which radio stations would rather avoid playing. Radio 1 used to cut short the last line of too much too young and stereotype was only aired late at night as it was about a bloke catching VD.
It's not a good idea to listen to this when you're really drunk.
how about stone jajaja

Jerry Dammers incarne un pianiste solitaire et souffrant de troubles hallucinatoires.
Jerry looks like Gary Oldman right at the start of this.
esto es solo para quien sabe apreciar la música de verdad!
Rest in peace Nelson Mandela
God sendo me here!!!
Alcohol because that im here!!!!!
I suddenly need a drink... 🍸
...or a shot. 💉
50% Jerry Dammers + 50% Terry Hall, Neville, Rody, Bradbury, Horace and Lynval = The Specials.
Al & Jane.
This is slow ska!
Red red wine
I respect Jerry Dammers !!
"The Special A.K.A. " is so much special !! (^^)
wow...wow.........wwwwwwwoooooooowwwwww
I just smashed 30 Flügels, then RUclips puts this in my suggestions. Sweet!
i'm hearing this and i'm drunk...
Heroin Heroin that's the problem today
Awesome tune, shit that there must be adverts! haha
Ska? Swing Jazz? Chicago Blues? Idk. It's brilliant though!
Just skazzggae forever and ever amen...
It’s just a Dammers. Enjoy!
1984
Alcohol & Heroína is better than Jerry Dammers hahaha
Is that Rhoda Dakar?
A bit tired now xx
More music from The Specials: TheSpecials.lnk.to/Listen
So it's 2795 beers and 51 non-alcohol drinks ... coming up, sir.
Gil Scott heron brought me back here.
Harley jol
Every time I look at Rhoda all I think about is Stargate.
IM SO HIGH
There is a vast difference between alcohol and heroin and wifebeaters will be wifebeaters. I know this.
With songs like this no wonder jerry dimmers never got invited to the specials reunion
With out Dammers there would be no Specials or 2Tone. He was the driving force. And they all owe him.
@@williammurphy2245 Dammers was/is the soul of The Specials. Anything without Dammers is just The Specials in name only.
@@williammurphy2245 Damn straight!
What's the name of the singer?
Thid is same the specials who sing "a message to rudi"?
no they are the specials aka
Yes and no
can someone be more specific please
Lol heard of Google or Wikipedia ? It is the same Specials technically but with several new members, this incarnation lasted for a few years and the. It changed again. It happens with some bands. Seriously Wikipedia has the whole story.
Yes, but the 3 lead singers had left to form Fun Boy Three so they replaced them with Rhoda Dakar & a male singer whose name I forget. Still a great album in its own right.
Are these the same guys that played "Rudy Cant Fail"?
No. Those were The Clash.
lmestanza I was actually thinking of Message to you Rudy?
Then the answer is yes :-)
lmestanza thanks!
+lmestanza
are there other songs sang by a woman from the specials?
somehow i don't think this song is about alcohol
+KIMJONGIL567 I know what you mean.
+jasonpfinch well i dont explain!
+Steve Mcniel I don't know specifically what he was referring to. However, I could see this song as a metaphor for a girl he loves but left him. I say it's most likely still about alcohol but either interpretation works.
There is more under the surface than just the booze...
I miss JB
Jim Beam? 🥃
Um, these are Not The Specials
C'mon Jerry, please give up the dj'ing and release some new music. Even if it was "Jerry plays The Specials" with just you playing the organ to old Specials tracks many of us would buy it in a flash. It'd be almost tragic if you never release any music ever again.
