Y'all do realize dreamgirls was a musical before it was a movie. Everyone is accustomed to the overly perfected movie version. This is live and how they were written. Also deena isn't a strong singer, but she can sing. When she becomes lead (as the show shows) it goes to her head so of course shes gonna belt a little
Deena's "light sound" is what Curtis highlights when it comes to making her the lead. The voice of their Deena is pretty soulful, which takes away from the importance of the character. Diana Ross wasn't known for being a belter. When I think of Deena, that's the voice I look for. Women like Sheryl Lee Ralph, Linda Leilani Brown, Arnetia Walker, Audra McDonald, etc, are pretty strong singers, but their sound for Deena was always toned down for the purpose of the character performing. When Deena sings about her feelings these vocals could be more understanding, but as a Dream, she is suppose to sound soft.
When the actress start singing and I am telling she didn't actually sound so very good but I think that's because she emphasize her emotions and I love it
This is terrible! Wigs are terrible! Acting is terrible! And ever since the movie, all these girls playing Deena now thinks they have to belt and over sing! (that's to Beyoncé) Deena was not supposed to be able to belt... That's how Effie sings...

Just leave things as they are
I understand that it is a LIVE musical, but the singing and acting...
It was a Broadway show before the movie
this is not it.

Oh no....no to all of this...
This terrible effie , i hate it😬😬😬
Did the costume and production designers even bother to study what fashion was like in the 60s and 70s? Awful.
Some of the costumes were based on the costumes from the original Broadway production in 1983.
🤢🤮
This shit is so dramatic
Effie gap is too damn much singing sounds terrible and acting is very cringy
Is this a parody?
