I wonder if the videotape still exists somewhere in ABC's vault. Oh to see the LA cast again

I mean I loved both JH and LW, but LW did her thang with those epic riffs

I saw this in Chicago! But Lillias was Effie and I could not wait to see/her sing that song? All I can say is, "I did not miss Jeniffer H., one bit." Lillias did her thing! And as for the Diana Ross Clone? She was bad in her own right for giving bits and pieces of Ross! Loved it!

c'mon now, don't you think you're praising Lillias just a bit too much here? Ms. Holliday put the stank on that song...and was consistant for 3yrs...Lillias is or was ok, but Ms. Holldiay raised the bar HIGH for that song.

Hey were different as I've seen the play through the decades with new Effie's and some were better than others. Just different and that's what makes going to the play because you can't wait for a unknown to sing that song! Always my anticipation with joy though!

ok, I can agree with you on that. Maybe I'm a bit bias because I am a HUGE Jennifer Holliday fan. I was way too young(4yrs old) to go see the play on Broadway in New York. I do remember seeing the billboards and a play bill on TV for DreamGirls, but that's all I remember about the play. I didn't start learning to appreciate Ms. Holliday's voice until I became a teenager. So I can respect the differences in opinions on each performer.

DaTruEbonyRayne Jen barely last two years in the show and consistently miss performances. During her year on Broadway, her understudy went on nearly 50% of the time. And Jen only did the LA company roughly 6 months, Lilias White and Edwina Lewis were going on pretty regularly. Jen kind of held the LA co hostage

I also saw "Dreamgirls" in Chicago (First National Tour) on a Wednesday matinee. Ms. Holliday was not announced to be in the show, never was while in Chicago, but that was okay with me. A great show.
