The Shell Stitch is an easy crochet stitch perfect for beginner crocheters who are already familiar with single crochet and double crochet. It’s an easy 2 row repeat pattern and where the stitches go is really easy and intuitive once you get the hang of it.
The Shell Stitch
Chain multiples of 6 + 2
Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook. *Skip 2 chains, work 5 double crochet in the next chain. Skip 2 chains, single crochet in the next chain. Repeat from * until end of row. Chain 3, turn.
Row 2: Work 2 double crochet into the first stitch. Skip 2 stitches, single in the next stitch. *Skip 2 stitches, work 5 Double in the next single crochet. Skip 2 stitches, single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat from * until 3 stitches remain. Skip 2 stitches, work 3 double crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1, turn.
Row 3: Single crochet in the first stitch. *Skip 2 stitches, work 5 double crochet in the next stitch. Skip 2 stitches, single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat from * until end of row. Last single crochet will be worked into the turning chain. Chain 3, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3
