Thank you for this thorough and encouraging response, Kathleen! It made my day. I found your characterization of content-rich (and creatively stimulating) index entries/taglines as 'card captures' especially helpful and clarifying. I apologize for some unclarity in my initial question: rather than using sparser taglines for each index entry (the disadvantages of which I see as you do), I was suggesting a practice of creating fewer index entries overall. Why not create an index that contains (stimulating, content-rich) entries, but only for those cards that serve as the most efficient entry points to particular discussions going on within the main box? That way, the index would be designed to plunge you (and your new main card) right into the thick of the most relevant discussion branch *in your main box* to which the new card might contribute, and un-indexed main cards in the vicinity of your landing zone might surprise you (and attract your main card) even more powerfully. In any case, I'm experimenting with your approach of indexing *every* main card and finding it stimulating and helpful in plenty of unexpected ways, so thank you once more for the window you've provided us into your practice. :)

I'm 11 minutes in and loving this video already. It's awesome to see you have what you call a "working box." I have incorporated a similar one I created for my system that I call my "Core Box." For me, it is the engine of my zettelkasten and content writing.

Fascinating, Chase. How does your Core Box work for you? From your RUclips header, you say you create art. I am fascinated to know how a Zettelkasten helps you with that part. May I ask where you publish your content?

@@KathleenSpracklen There's quite a few sections in it. I'll be making videos on my full system here in the near future showing the details.
My Core Box is where I store my "currently working on articles" my "core systems" revolving around business/life. "Core Collectives" like my 'core ideas,' and 'core quotes' (these are my big ideas and important quotes from others) along with other sections like yours including "notes to file" etc.
Also, you might find one of the sections useful in my core box since you mentioned your notes that might not make it ever into your ZK. I have a section in my Core Box called "Note Incubator" these are notes that I've written but I'm not sure if I want to file them in my box yet. Sometimes they are random thoughts that need more future polishing, or are needing to wait to find a home in my ZK as it grows and naturally a home is created for them. So I store all of those notes in the "incubator" section. It's been useful since, I like you, sometimes write notes that I'm not sure to put anywhere yet. Having this incubator sections helps me not gum up my "notes to file" sections, which I can see you are starting to deal with on your end. Hope that helps.
I really enjoyed seeing your tag line method for indexing. I want to adopt this method for my system. It makes a lot more sense to me.
      I have one question:
Do you index every main note you make? I don't index everything but was curious that regarding your process.

@@itschasemac Thank you so much, Chase. I am excited to hear that you will post videos on your system. I just subscribed to you. I love your idea of the "Note Incubator." May I share it with my viewers? If so, should I credit you by your full name, your first name or your @iamchasemac name?
I've been back and forth on whether to index every main note. It seems that every time I skip the indexing process, that's the very card I am hunting. Right now, I am indexing every card. I like the neuro-imprinting that I get with repeatedly writing the tagline. I guess my reasoning is that if the new card does not significantly contribute to the discussion, I will just leave it on the Bib Card and let it go at that.
I am very much looking forward to your Zettelkasten videos. I am eager to see your setup.

@@KathleenSpracklen glad you found it helpful. Yes absolutely, you can share it with your audience :) you can just say my name as "Chase Mac" and thank you for asking and for the sub! I'll definitely help support your channel. Your content is amazing and very well articulated.
Thats interesting what you mentioned. It's also a pain point I've run into as well. When I don't index a card, I always find myself later looking for it. I can't find any reason to not index every card, other than the index growing big but it's what it's suppose to do if it's the directory to the whole ZK. I'm going to start indexing the majority of my cards to see how it goes. I think your tag lining method for it is what's really going to level up my indexing and memory imprinting like you mentioned.
Thanks for getting back to me Kathleen! Keep the videos coming :)

Some of this felt like watching a livestream of using your system and hearing you make decisions was very helpful. Great video!
Something that stuck with me from How to Take Smart Notes is to index by the context you want to stumble on the note in the future. Indexing by discussions is a very interesting play on that, nice one Alex!

Thank you Kathleen for another great video. It have of collection of notebooks that I have created through the years that I’m trying to figure out how to extract and add to my zettlekasten. You have given me some ideas to consider. Again thanks.

Hi Paul -- I too have years of journals! By indexing them with keywords and assigning numbeers, I can use my zettelkasten as a 'guide' to the journal content. Certainly Kathleen's system can help build out a way to capture things from journals!
