Not to add to your to-do’s or anxiety, but I’d love (one day) to see you sell a CMC book (like the ones TN sells, a thick one) with photos of your journal pages, life pictures, stories, advice, artwork, accessories, etc. It’d be so cozy and a great resource to go through, again and again. Maybe an anniversary edition!
This is a perfectly timed video for me, thank you. My Watercolor group is wanting me to “teach” them how I write. I started calligraphy over 40 years ago, but have recently been practicing various styles for a couple years now. I have a little notebook that I write my font styles in very similar to your demo sheet. One of my favorites is lowering (or raising) the mid-line of the letter.😊
As a professional graphic designer, I can say your intuitive and curated know on lettering is fairly good :) What’s interesting about your handwriting is your ascenders and descenders are close to your x height. Making your style very suitable for planner grid. Cool videos. Cheers!
I’ve been on a hand lettering journey for over 2 years-and I still learned a lot from this video! Thanks for sharing 💛 Your “infographics” at the end were so good and so cute!! 🥰
Thank you for this, I did not realize that the different fonts were basically the same with different tweeks. That really makes sense to me, so if my fancy writing gets way better, I will totally credit you!! Thank you again, Helen :)
Great tips, Helen. Seems like practicing different creative lettering styles this way would be relaxing, playful and constructive at the same time. I think writing words would be so much more interesting than just doing lettering drills (which probably explains why I haven’t perfected brush lettering - all the courses tell you to keep doing drills of the strokes. That’s just torture for my brain!). Have a great week!
Helen, I loved the analogies about the line with/without a ruler. I am trying to be more consistent-minded over perfection because it often triggers analysis paralysis. I am grateful you posted the video 🙂
This was so helpful to me, Helen. And just through your descriptions I identified something I really struggle with is making oval shapes in my lettering. At least I can find a way to work on that now.
You have no idea how helpful this really is!! i really like how you set up ur planners and this tutorial is helpful to keep everything clean and organized :) so excited to start planning on my hobonichi avec 🥰
Those are some neat tips and very easy ways to slightly adjust your own handwriting without re-learning or copying a whole new font! I'll have to practice/test my handwriting in my first ever Hobonichi in the notes pages My handwriting is quite heavy handed and a lil big with hanging bits from the letter j,q,p,y and such, so I wanna make sure it can fit in the smaller grid lines.
I love love love you sharing your thought process, I think it's so helpful for finding our own styling instead of looking at 3562234 examples of other peoples!!
I loved this video so much. I rediscoverd my love for fountainpen writing and I struggel with always mixing fonts within the words this clip was very helpfull in not imitating someone but embrace your natural handwriting .Thank you 🥰
When I first started practicing my lettering, it was with your hand lettering worksheet so that has truly inspired my writing now. I love this video, and there’s such great helpful tips in here so I’m excited to try these out. Thank you for constantly teaching and inspiring us Helen ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for the VERY helpful lettering video. For example, it never occurred to me to change the positon of my paper to get more slant on the letters. Brilliant!❤🎉❤
thank you for this video! it somehow gave me more confidence about my own handwriting with which i can start to play now 😅 🙏 ps: your handwriting is so satisfying and very pleasant to look at!
Thank you for these tips, Helen! I will definitely try this in my handwriting! The funny thing about my handwriting thou is that it is very inconsistent 🤣 feels like multiple people writing in a page! 😬🤣
One of my main issues has been lowercase letters when I’m writing tiny (like Hobonichi/Sterling Ink grids). I don’t like how the loops of letters like j and y collide with the next line if writing. Looking at your writing I’ve realised you make them much smaller and way less loopy. That’s what I’m going to try next! Thanks!
Ohhh thank you for this suggestion! I do have a blog post about it in the meantime if you're interested!! thecoffeemonsterzco.com/blogs/midnight-blogging/helens-favourite-stationery-supplies-1
@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo thank you so much for even considering it. I know you must be so busy. This video is truly amazing! I’m bookmarking it for sure. Thank you for being so kind and generous. ❤
Hello! I love love your videos and I am fairly new to the hobonichi world, but I just got my very first one and I am a little stuck on how to set up the index section. I know I want it to be a habits tracker, but I am not sure how to go about it exactly. Any ideas or recommendations?
One thing I struggle with is making the script look bouncy and flowey - not sure if you know what I mean but it just doesn’t look as natural as yours and just looks a little awkward 😔
Ohhh I see what you mean! I would suggest taking a look at a "bouncy" word you like, and draw horizontal bars at the bottom. See where the bars are and find a pattern! There usually is a pattern ;)
@@NatashaLeecoleremember someone out there is looking at your handwriting and wishing they were as neat. Embrace your own creations imperfections because I could look at it & think it just looks unique and beautiful
Lol...I saw you writing in person, it does not look generally okay, it looks awesome. I will be honest I have very neat handwriting, but it doesn't look as nice as yours (my opinion) because the incongruities of your writing add character. Perfect penmanship is not all that.
Would love to get worksheets with your font styles!

Helen, do you do any digital planning? if so, what apps do you use?
I don't!
