    First autocross in the new car! My goals with this thing are autocross and time trial domination.
    First impressions: my word, it's loud. Just as friendly as my last Cayman but with a ton more torque and horsepower and complete suspension control. Almost as shocking as the power is just how quickly the chassis - front and rear - responds to even very aggressive steering inputs. Happily obliges with power oversteer even low down in second gear. I couldn't get a sense for medium-to-high speed balance on this course given its very tight confines, but I can't wait to bring it out to larger venues and tracks!
    As with my last Cayman, I hope to maximize the platform without significant modifications. To that end, it's been through an alignment with an eye toward maximizing front-end grip. There's already a lot more to play with here than on the last car.
    I ran the stock Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's here but will swap to Yokohama Advan A052s prior to running the rest of the year. I may eventually look for aftermarket wheel options to enable a wider front tire, but for now I'm running with what I've got.
    Should be fun :D.
    Thanks to Mike K. for the still and Ed V. for the third-person footage.

    Nice, looks like it really pulls out of the corners effortlessly!

      On paper, 340bhp->500bhp sounds like a lot.
      I can confirm, it is.

      Just need to get more front end bite now ;)

      Maybe wider front wheels, though center lock wheel availability is still somewhat limited and I can't run 19's. We'll see how it feels at medium to high speed.

      I'm not sold on the center locks, is there really an advantage over conventional lug nuts/bolts? @@teddyframhein

      Me neither. In racing they can allow for quicker pit stops but they're actually more of a pain for me because I don't have the necessary tools to change wheels in my garage. They do look cool, I guess...

      Hey, I know you! Maybe I'll see you at an SCCA event some time - though I'm not sure my new car classes any better than my last Cayman...
      I really can't wait to have this thing out to Crows Landing next weekend. I'm glad we have the Laguna Seca paddock as a venue but it's tough to do anything interesting there.

      @@teddyframhein The 4rs is probably the car to have in SSP now. Get some hoosiers and run with us!

      I do think this has the potential to be among the best factory-built cars for autocross. I guess I need to consider moving beyond 200tw!

      @teddyframhein biggest limitation it has vs the GT3 is tire sizes. It can only really fit 275s and 325s vs the 295s and 345s I run on the GT3. But on the tighter courses it definitely has an advantage

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  6 месяцев назад

      Yep, this is front of mind for me. I can't downsize to 19's as I have PCCBs, and the center lock configuration limits my current choice of wheels at 20".

    Very nice! Looks like has a bit of that cayman understeer in some of tighter slow turns.

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yup, a bit - but at these very low speeds it's more difficult to keep the front end loaded using the brakes. I'll look forward to running at a larger venue, with A052's, in a couple of weeks!

      @@teddyframheinoh yeah on more open courses like we see at Crows it’s going to be a monster! So cool you picked up one of these. One of better cars to come from Porsche in a while! So see you opted for pccbs ….so 20 inch wheels? Can you get 265 under front? 305 in rear?

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yup, I'm excited!
      I'm running the stock 20" magnesium wheels, and will keep an eye out for options. For now there are no 19" available that fit over PCCB, and I've not yet seen a set of 20" center lock wheels wider than 9".

      @@teddyframhein Respect that you don't want to disclose the numbers, but any chance getting a used one < 200k? What I see most used are listed from 210k to 250k, I'd probably for 991.2 gt3rs at that point

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  6 месяцев назад +2

      This one sat toward the low end of that range. Prices have dropped quickly over the last year. I had a tough time deciding between the two you’ve mentioned, and even the 992 GT3, but for my combination of use cases this felt like the right choice. Plus warranty coverage through 2028 as a bonus.
