- Hurricane Beryl is moving toward south Texas after tearing through parts of the Caribbean and Mexico. More than 140 million people are under heat alerts, with dozens of cities expected to break heat records. And another dangerous wildfire has broken out in California. NBC News' Priscilla Thompson and Bill Karins report.

@@jacobbaumgardner3406 , there are way too many mountains, valleys and homeless for it to completely flood out. The ground itself would absorb all that water before it becomes a flood. As dry as this here place is.

Like dealing with Hurricane Beryl wasn't enough for Padre Island. July 4th, Texans had too worry about shark attacks as well. Got to persevere and stay tough.🤘🤠

Beryl send us some rain here in Austin, a little wind is okay.
Everyone that rides out the hurricane risks a couple weeks of no power, little clean water, scarce food, toxic sludge amid sweltering heat. What might start out as a fun hurricane party can quickly become a weary struggle to stay alive - or at least, comfortable.
Bring it on. West Texas needs the rain.
Y'all probably won't get any, unless excess flood water is piped or shipped y'all's way via tanker trucks.

Hurricane weather is terrible for anyone living near oceans but great for people who dont but still live close enough to get rain during these scorching weather days. Stay safe everyone 🙏. By the way, those kids video bombing the reporter on the beach is the cutest and funniest thing 😂.

Yes. This is similar to 9/11, when time stood still for three days as we cleared the skies and sat tight. Then the anthrax scare, and threats to malls. After a year or two of that, we finally stopped the escalation of warnings. This is like that but 100 times worse. From 2016 on, we have been stuck in BizarroWorld. And it is not over yet.

Gee this wk, it was crazy hot (a little better today though) in N CA, kinda early for super hot (fires already darn it)...but also keeping an eye (no pun meant!) on Beryl, headed toward TX...I know rain would be great for lots of places there-but a hurricane so early?
Daughter & hubby expecting their 3rd little one, the heat N of Austin has been rough-seems like TX has had everything so far '24! Honkin 1"+ hail, ice storms, flash floods, T storms, tornados, drought, fires....etc now hurricane season already, yikes!

I tried but I can't take over exaggeration and fear mongering as tools to guide others. Get over causing sense of panic to induce prevention because it's been a fail. Adaptation is necessary at this point and too long ignored because focus was on prevention. The press should look at realism instead of idealism. We can be positive if we are prepared. I wish people would push that focus instead of fear.
