4:26-4:30 is an astounding moment. These 2 immense Masters trading ideas and freedoms and Paco hits that incredible deep flamenco alzapua technique in his response and it is utterly epic yet as hes finishing the idea his face depicts a sweet gentlemess saying over to you my Dear Friend. So powerful and beautiful. And Mclaughlins little head nod and massive smile knows whats occurring.
Tears in the eyes. The beauty the talent the fun the skill the spontaneity. Pacos guitar tone is one of the greatest sounds ever. Mclaughlins ideas are some of the greatest ever.
Lol
There are several bootleg recordings where Steve joined them on stage in 1983. What becomes obvious after comparing their solos, Steve certainly kept up speed wise, but honestly was lacking in rhythmic variety that Al had. He was there as a planned substitute for Al who had a shoulder injury, but got better. Instead of letting Steve go he did the opening act solo, then joined them for the encores. Much like Larry Coryell, anybody other than Al takes the role of back up rhythm for these too monsters (Paco and John). People unfairly attack the musicality of Al Dimeola and I get that, but honestly he was the perfect foil for these two and his compositions were the backbone of the repertoire IMO, certainly the more well known melodies were his, even though I preferred the sophistication of John’s pieces.
Deux huiles des meilleurs guitaristes au monde ... ça ne peut être que du bon !
One of my favorite McLaughlin pieces. Whenever it is played. RIP Maestro Lucia

My favorite composition from John Mclaughlin
Where is everyone - maybe speechless hence lack of comments. Doesn’t get much better than these hermanos.
A great composition.
The story of how de lucia learned how to improvise with them is a wonderful one
The best of the best guitarists on earth. This is Gold.
Simply The Best

I always wondered what the trio would have been like with John, Paco and Steve Morse substituting Al DiMeola.
