For muslim in malaysia, the best part that you could pay higher zakat %, the advantages of paying zakat is that it serves as a rebate in your annual income tax. A tax refund is a reduction in the actual amount of income tax you have to pay, unlike a tax relief, which simply reduces the amount of your taxable income.
Same in Singapore. I can claim tax via zakat

Please also note that for Muslims who have paid the 2.5% zakat to the Malaysian Zakat Department, that amount paid can be dedducted from the total amount due to the Malaysian Tax Department.
Muslims should take this apportunity as an "ibadah" while also complying with the Malaysian regulations.
Take opportunity to pay more than 2.5. Up to 30% if you can.

As a muslim, i be leaving inshaAllah within 3 years, i am selling off my business and my house in London for similar reasons. Malaysia is one of my stops, i been there before and felt really at home. I still be claiming my state pension.
Individuals who are non resident in the UK are not taxable in the UK on UK interest or dividends received. However, if tax is deducted at source from the interest and/ or dividends, then some or all of the tax may not be refundable ( this is known as disregarded income).
If u pay zakat.. any amount, either gold zakat or fitrah or income zakat.. you can deduct 1 on 1 on your conventional tax deductibles... the main reason of e-invoice is to officially made every business as formal bussiness in order to accurately calculate the country GDP...currently the nation GDP calculation does not include in-formal economy like the street vendors and small busineses.. so malaysia current gdp number are under valued, it is estimate around 10-20% undervalued.. with e-invoice we will have more accurate GDP calculations to measure economics growth allows economist to make better accurate policies..

I'm a 30 year old restaurateur that is thinking of moving to Malaysia with my wife & 3 kids due to the current political turmoil.
I have a 7 figure investment portfolio in shares/ cryptos/ bullion & the chances of the new government raising CGT to match income tax is giving me serious anxiety.
I realise, living in Malaysia until my youngest who is 1years old finishes school, my investment would compound substantially more than if I were in the uk.
Out of £750,000,000,000 of taxes collected in u.k £350,000,000,000 goes to welfare + benefits excluding pensions.. u.k gov spending is £1,050,000,000,000 Trillion. Unsustanable. They're taxing everything u.k, country gone down hill.

UK rental income is taxed in the UK according to an Accountant in the UK. Regardless if you are not resident in the UK rental or property income is taxed locally.
Yes you’re correct. That makes perfect sense. Although, as the chartered accountant has stated that she is not a UK tax expert so if you’re a uk resident earning uk rental income you’d have to consult a uk certified accountant.
Assalamu'alaikum. I'd like to add one more thing about tax in Malaysia. If you are a Muslim, paying Zakat is the same as paying tax. The Zakat payment is transferable to Inland Revenue.

Assalaamalaikum, Just a point which i need you to clarify, When you earn in a country you need to pay tax in the country where you have earned and not in a different country and i think you can take the rebate in a different country when you are transferring the amount there. But if u earn in rentals in UK you will be liable to pay tax there whether you are a registered tax payer or not. Thats what i think. Kindly do clarify on that. Regards.

As a UK chartered accountant, the figures and presentages mentioned here are not accurate. Companies are not at 20%, 40% and 45% for example.
And its not 50% income tax, its 45% above £125,140 total income (not £150,000)
Expenses can be detectable if its a limited company or sole trader business based in the UK. Not all expenses are tax dedutable, but it depends.
But yes, employees don't generally have allowable business or tax deductible expenses. Rare items that generally be sipulated in the contract or is required part of the job and they have to pay it according to the employment contract.
In terms of rent, the gross rent will be taxed fully without ANY deductions. From 6 April 2025. Hopefully its scrapped. Buying properties via companies in the UK avoid this issue.
I worked with male and female accountants and many of the men are way more intellectual then the women. Maybe you had poor experience with a male accountant, that maybe your exeprince. Malaysia is a food hub of the world. You can get almost any nationality cuisine and the best thing is many of them are halal. Eating out is also a Malaysian culture so the food is comparatively cheaper than European countries

So if I’m a US citizen who gets MM2H and move to Malaysia and live there 10 months of the year every year working a US remote job. Obviously that money will be taxed in America but would it also be taxed in Malaysia? If yes, is that only if I put that money in a Malaysian bank account? If yes, couldn’t I just leave my money in my US account to avoid being double taxed?
Read some of the comments about paying zakat in Malaysia and Inland Revenue(you don't have to pay tax if u pay zakat).
