      I love that but I think (and I really rarely say this but) the official music video adds so much emotion. Johnny Got His Gun is a movie so heavy it entirely fits One. Especially since they both tell the same story but still. I knew the song well before ever seeing the MV and it hit me emotionally just as much as One hit me the first time I heard it.

    A lot of people are recommending the Seattle `89 show, and they're not wrong, the band was ferocious and hungry, but since then, James has focused and developed his vocal abilities to a great degree. So, long story short, every "era" of their live shows has something special to offer. i hope you'll have a chance to enjoy more of their performances, from any era!

    • @254jerome2
      @254jerome2 3 года назад +2

      Yep. James is a way better actual singer than he was back in 89. But his metal vocals were a lot more aggressive back then.

    If you're enjoying instrumental music more, well Metallica actually used to do amazing instrumental tracks on all of their older albums, the best of which is probably Orion from their Master of Puppets Album. Another really good metal instrumental is "Voice of the Soul" by Death. Hope you enjoy!

    Looking into what the lyrics are about is especially interesting. It's based on a 1971 film called "Johnny Got His Gun" film that I was shown in history class about a man who comes home from war so horribly injured that he wishes for death but is so horribly injured that he is unable to ask for help (having lost his sight, vision, hearing, speech, and smell to an artillery shell-- though the song talks about a landmine). The original music video features clips from the film.

It´s not really a love song, more a cry for help from a wounded soldier after the war but if you read the lyrics you´ll see. Love seeing you react to songs I like because you always add something new to my understanding of the music or spot some rich details that I never noticed until you point them out.
