    Hello Mike Schmitz, amazing video! I just subscribed! By the way, I tried to add your Bible Study tools, but it's still loading after one day. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can you help with that?

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  3 месяца назад +1

      I could see it taking awhile with adding all those files, but not an entire day… I would try searching for “Obsidian stuck loading” and you might find a few things specific to your system that might help. I would look for something that could help clear the cache depending on your operating system.

    E-Sword is pretty good for free. (Donationware, but, good) And purchasable modules, so not completely free, but everything they can provide free, they do.

      I started off on e-sword! It got me through Bible College. Agree that is a good option, though I still prefer my Obsidian workflow 😊 Great recommendation though!

    Hello,
    Thanks for your video.
    I'm French and I'd like the same tool but with the LSG Bible (Louis Segond 1910).
    How can I do it?
    Are you able to suggest it?

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  2 месяца назад

      To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how to do it as it requires scripting which is beyond my capabilities I'm afraid. If you're feeling adventurous, here's a resource other people have had luck with in getting a different version: github.com/selfire1/BibleGateway-to-Obsidian

  • @iancampbell4582

    i belong to a bible study group and we use a different translation of the bible (ESV). Could you provide instructions how you got all those chapters and verses into obsidian? this would be great (not only for ESV but many other translations as well).

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  3 месяца назад +1

      There are tools out there to do this, but frankly I don't understand scripting enough to make them work. If you're feeling adventurous, here's the one people tend to recommend: github.com/selfire1/BibleGateway-to-Obsidian
      Be careful though as certain translations are copyrighted (i.e. the instructions on that page explicitly say you can't do this with the ESV). That's one of the reasons I chose the King James Version when i set this up awhile ago.

    Followed all the steps for the css file that I got from your site, but it isn't setting the format on the lexicon numbers. Any thoughts?

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  2 месяца назад

      I would check the CSS Snippets section under the Appearance settings. If it’s installed correctly, it should show in the list (might need to refresh). Also make sure it’s toggled on (isn’t by default).

    • @kathsetto9724
      @kathsetto9724 2 месяца назад

      @@MikeSchmitz Yes I had refreshed and it appeared in the list. And I toggled it on. It is just not changing the lexicons to be smaller and higher. I also tried downloading from the Kingdom Study Tool.css and loaded that and selected it, and it didn't change the lexicons either in anyway.

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  2 месяца назад

      @@kathsetto9724 Maybe you're in Edit Mode instead of Reading Mode? Try clicking the button in the upper right of the tab to toggle Reading Mode on (the CSS won't be applied while still in Edit Mode).

    I opened the Bible, Lexicon, and Topical Bible. My computer lags like crazy. :D Hard to use. Any tips on helping Obsidian use more of the GPU?

      I turned off the graph view core plugin and it seems to help but still kind of slow

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  3 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately it could be a bunch of things… are you using a PC? If so, I’ve heard of people having issues with large folder lists (which the note-as-verse format would definitely contribute to). The other thing to check would be what other plugins you have enabled that could be slowing things down. There’s a setting in Community Plugins that will show which plugins take awhile to load. You might want to try turning a few of the those off to see if it helps performance. I’d also make sure you’re on the latest version of Obsidian as performance seems to keep getting better with each new release for me.

    Funny, I was trying to do this exact thing with Obsidian a few weeks ago, but Obsidian tagging system was too cumbersome. I'm a big tech guy, and even I had trouble using the program...its like a bunch of nerds got together and said "lets build a program for creating a second brain, but lets make it fun to code".
    All I wanted to do is create pathways and connections between blocks across all my studies. A week later of trying to learn the software I realized it wasn't cross platform because of the local storage function, and in order to sync I had to pay...not only that but I use Linux for my PC, iPad when mobile, and an iPhone for home, and and Android for work. And cloud sync is limited between platforms unless I use a github which I didn't want to do.
    I ended up creating multiple databases in Notion, creating a master tagging database and used relations and reverse relations to connect all my topics/studies to verses/books/information.

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  3 месяца назад +2

      Notion is a great option for your use case. If I needed online access, that’s probably what I would try to do as well. Obsidian is built on a “File Over App” philosophy that I personally like, but does have its drawbacks (like online access).

      It could, but you’ll probably need those source files. I just have the standard KJV files.

    Can you get it in Spanish with verses?

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  2 месяца назад

      You can if you run a script on the Spanish version of the Bible, but I'm afraid I'm not sure how to do that. I just know that it's possible. I do not have a Spanish version, unfortunately.

    • @MikeSchmitz
      @MikeSchmitz  3 месяца назад +1

      Looks cool! Thanks for the recommendation. I personally get a lot of value out of having my scripture notes and all my other notes in the same app, but I could see this as an alternative to Logos or Accordance for sure.
