This happen to me, went to my local garden store n seen them for the first time. Searching for information on lisianthus n found your channel. I felt in love with them at first sight n have wanted them since. Florida zone 8b😊.
I had seen a commercial I think on youtube showing masses of these plants in various flower colours. Fell in love! I asked (I'm in Canada) my local nursery retailer but they didn't have any. This week I was back there and sure enough, they had Lisianthus in 4 inch pots in a few colours, including the Lavender, and purple is my favourite colour. I realize that I'm in zone 4 and these will be annual, but I think it will be worth it. By the way the cost in May 2024 for one of these pots was $4.69 Canadian dollars.
Thanks, this is the info I was looking for. I bought one of these as a flowering plant half price in the supermarket. It was so beautiful (white with a pink blush), I just had to buy it. Having never grown these before & I'm glad they like warm conditions as I live in a Mediterranean climate in Australia.
I've attempted to grow lisianthus in my hybrid tea rose bed before in the Northeast but I found them very difficult. I think the most important thing is free-draining soil, light and fluffy. Add some orchid, perlite or cactus potting mix to your soil with compost and plant them high or try them in a container.
Thats a nice green garden for such a hot area! Im trying to grow it from seed! It took about 12 days to germinate but they are teeny tiny super little first leaves... tiny!!! They are under full spectrum grow lights so here's hoping!!!!! I can't help but think the stems and buds look like chrysanthemums...
Great video! Its hard to believe, but they were even more beautiful in person than the pictures & videos I saw online, but they were! I grew them for the first time last year (after seeing them in Nicole @ Flower Hill Farms' videos). I grew them from seed. I don't think it was as hard as people say it is, however it's DEFINITELY not a seed I would recommend a beginner seed starter start with! I ordered SEVERAL series for this coming year! I ordered the entire series of: ABC, Arena, Doublini, Echo, & Voyage. That way I should just about every color under the sun, from late spring/early summer, until fall! I started a small cut flower farm last year & they are just the perfect cut flower! Long, strong, straight, easy-to-harvest stems, extremely long lasting in a vase, & just oh so beautiful!
Hello Angela, Finding your channel has been like a blessing for me as your summer temps are exactly equal to my summer in India (45C/113F days with 28C/82F nights from Mid March to Mid June), but my winters (Mid November to mid February) are very pleasant like 30C(86F) days with the lowest night temps being 17C(63F). And it's 33-35C(91-95F) days with 25C(77F) nights in the other months with Heavy rains between mid June and Mid September. Do you think I can grow Alstroemeria and California Poppies here? And can I grow Lisianthus as a perennial here? Thank you for your patience ❤️❤️
Hi! I'm so glad it's been helpful. I'm not sure about growing Alstroemeria - I would try the poppies. Lisianthus doesn't mind the heat, but doesn't like the humidity much or soggy roots, so it may not like your rainy season. You could always give it a try and see.
When you say "cut down to the rosette" regarding over-wintering them, do you mean cutting down to the base of the plant? I also love this beautiful flower & have had it my garden for many years but didn't know it could be a perennial in my warm climate area. TY for a great vid & info!
I found some at one of my local garden centers and bought two of them in deep purple which was the only color they had, I live in SE Michigan zone 6 and would like to grow them in a container, how deep should it be and what companion plants can I use, new at growing this plant
@@gardingyrl3501 I plant mine so that the soil level of the plant is at least 1" above the soil line of my container (or the earth is planted in the ground) as I always add a layer of compost on the top. You'll need to look online or at our local garden center for companion plants.
I love Lisianthus. Grew it years ago in the summer and haven’t seen it in nurseries. Hope they come back like you mentioned. Thanks for all the details Angela!
Thank you for the great video. I live in Oregon-Portland area. It is still cold and night time temp is 38 - 42 f these days. When should I plant my lisianthus outside? Can I grow them in pots?
Check with a local grower - but it might be time to plant - they tolerate a little frost. Generally plant transplants 2-4 weeks before your last spring frost.
Angela, where did you get your archways??? I need one that will reach across a 36 in pathway and be about 70 inches deep to span 2 raised garden beds. I want to plant vines like Loofas and cucumbers on them and have a covered walkway between them. Thank you for your response.

I have never grown lisanthus before! I'm gonna have to give it a try.

I live in Florida and bought four. I'm hoping to grow them continually. 🤞
I'm in FL too, will they be a shade plant or would they take our full sun. I'm on zone 9.
Such a pretty flower with a long vase life. I will try growing them. Love your videos.
Thanks so much 😊
VERY NICE FLOWERS WITH LOVING COLOURS
Super idea ma. ❤

Two weeks ago I bought a bouquet of flowers I was wondering what those were called.
Thanks .
You’re welcome 😊

Yes, cut down to the base of the plant. Thanks for watching!

What hemical thretments are nesesery
No one local sells starts. I'm game for trying them from seed lol
I tried growing lisianthis this year. 2 packages yielded 2 plants. I'm still looking for it to bloom.
Hopefully these tips will help and that you get blooms soon!
I didn't realize that you could cut the growing tip to make it bushy. Good tip. I only have 2 plants. It's worth a try.
Hello I was wondering if you sell any of your crops to those around the area . I live in Tempe.
I don't.
HOW MUCH ARE LISIANTHUS FROM THE GARDEN CENTER?
Depends on the nursery, there are online retailers that sell plugs in bulk as well.
Lisianthus
👍🏻
Hi Angela, do you know when nurseries here in our area (Mesa) have these available for us to plant in spring? I missed seeing them this year.
I’ve seen them most springs at Summerwinds Nursery. Check once they begin putting the warm season flowers out - March or so.
Bad advice to only order plugs.
For new gardeners who want to be successful- plugs are a great option. Lisianthus can be tricky.
We can ship through out the world.we sell lisianthus
I love Lisianthus. Grew it years ago in the summer and haven’t seen it in nurseries. Hope they come back like you mentioned. Thanks for all the details Angela!
I hope so too!
so this is ok for places that gets 90-100's temp?
Yes!
@@GrowingInTheGarden Great, Thanks

I am going to try to grow it here in Maryland.🙏❤
Such a beautiful flower!
Agreed!

The company I bought mine from are no longer making them. I would ask around for a local welder.
They're beautiful indeed! Looks like rose. Do they have any scent?
Not a bit unfortunately.
I love lisianthus, but I don't think I can grow it in my humid, hot, tropical climate ☹️
I'm not sure - it does love the heat, but may not like the humidity.
Beautiful
Where do you recommend finding these in the East Valley? It’s not sold in the bigger retail nurseries. I would love to try this flower next year.
I've found them each year at Summerwinds nursery. They are becoming more common, you may be able to find them at other nurseries as well.
So beautiful ...but which season is the best to grow lisianthus plants
Plant in early spring and they grow through the warmer months.
I'm in Nevada so this gives me something to look forward to next year
Wonderful!
first comment, like second :D
Thanks!
Thank you for this video :)
Glad it was helpful!
So pretty! Very helpful video!
Thank you so much!
How to save Lisianthus seeds.
Leave blooms on the plant at the end of the season. They will develop into seeds.
