+Junior Oti its reall more of a weaker tone for hendrix when compared to the depth of little wing on that neck pickup, for wind cries mary i use the position between the neck and middle and set the amp and volume on guitar according. its really a more mellow sound, clean but a little crunch, and you want the treble to cut thelru the mids and bass without dominating everything else, this dude got it pretty perfect
Hey Greg, I'm a Blues/Hendrix Player from Fort Worth, Texas and I have been playing WCM for 50 years and I have to tell you that your Tone, Voicing, and feeling are the best I have ever heard. I started trying to figure that song out in 1967...You do a beautiful job with it. Rev. Muddy
Jamie Harrison's cover is pretty far superior to this. Obviously this guy did a nice job too, but Jamie Harrison is totally on another level technically and dynamically. Look it up on RUclips, you'll see what I mean
This was the first Hendrix song I learned on guitar.... and my first step on a lifelong journey to uncover the mystery of how one could play the right notes, but sound weak and thin compared to Jimi. You seem to have found the answer, as your tone AND the notes are amazing.
i think its the chordal thing your picking up on. and the duplet shuffle feel on those chromatic walk-ups (passing tones) but he wasnt a technical guy or music theory guy, he just played what he felt and thats what we really hear.
What really impressed me was the solo. Sounded spot on. Especially that one bluesy pentatonic riff that stands out. You captured exactly how he played it. Remarkable.
Spot on cover the tone and notesmith are perfect, and a note about Hendrix. Its easy to tell a great guitarist, their seemingly quiet easy solos are as compelling as their blazing hard rock riffs. Hendrix mastered all of it.
I don't even play, or plan on playing guitar at the moment (bass and piano player), but i am listening to all your videos, super clean and quality. Subbed keep up the good work dude.
I just bought these pickups after hearing your demos. There were a few in the running, but this cover of the wind cries mary sold me on the pure vintage 65's. thank you!
Finally, a tutorial/cover by someone that knows how to play and post a worthy vid! Thank you for the clean sound, knowing how to play a song the way it was originally played note for note, and NOT giving the viewer garbage like "other" players that think that they can play and post!! Your playing is exceptional, but your "not wasting a viewers time" is commendable! I watched this over and over again to follow you. Thx.
RUclips needs to add a feature that allows one to auto-like everything in someone's video list... These are incredible learning tools. And great listening.
After all the jacks are in their boxes And the clowns have all gone to bed You can hear happiness staggering on down the street Footprints dressed in red And the wind whispers, "Mary" A broom is drearily sweeping Up the broken pieces of yesterday's life Somewhere, a queen is weeping Somewhere, a king has no wife And the wind, it cries, "Mary" The traffic lights, they turn blue tomorrow And shine their emptiness down on my bed The tiny island sags downstream 'Cause the life that lived is dead And the wind screams, "Mary" Will the wind ever remember The names it has blown in the past? And with this crutch, its old age and its wisdom It whispers, "No, this will be the last" And the wind cries, "Mary"
LOVE THIS!!!!! Your version shows the depth of Wind Cries Mary it can be as simple as you want it but you’ve also shown how you could complex it up with all of the fills and add ins. I’ve played guitar for years but recently dove into learning this Hendrix rhythm methodology and it has has really opened my eyes to the fretboard! Love the cover! ✌🏾
Greg, as always your cover is great. There is a real attention to detail, that is very clear. Thanks for the great camera angle aswell, it really helps those trying to learn the song.
Dude I've listened literally dozens of covers trying to get what i hear from the original recorded version, and you sir have nailed it !! Excellent job 👍👍
I remember the first time I listened to this song, I actually cried because of how beautiful the solo is on that song. I was just getting into Hendrix at the time and seeing that side of him just.... wow
Man, that´s unbelievable. I never hear a cover with so fidelity. And this tune, if you close your eyes, can imagine Hendrix playing. Congratulations of you friend from Brasil. Ii´m sorry for my bad english huehuehuehue
My favorite song of Jimmy, and you did a very good job! Great! I dont play any musical instrument by myself, but i have a good ear. This is a phantastic cover, very close to the originial. Thank you. :-) Greetings from Cologne, Germany :-)
What's also pretty cool is that the length of this video is the exact same length of the studio version of The Wind Cries Mary. Beautiful playing. I'd believe it was Hendrix playing if this video had no visuals.
Super nice, great job! I'm learning the song I'll be playing this video a lot to get the licks. I have no intention of mastering it like you have just want some Hendrixisms to draw on for my own playing.
thanks man. I feel i learned maybe half of this song in one evening thanks to you, and looking at guitar tabs parallel. Without your video it would be much much harder, and I would eventually give up learning it.
Hey Greg, thank you for showing us the subtle nuances that we might have lacked in our own renditions of this song. I know that I will be able to do it almost as good as you from now on.
Dude, you got accolades from the reverend muddy! You are my hero! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your talent! You are a great inspiration to all guitar players!
That tone thooooooooo
+realitities2 yay im not the only one
And it's amp modeling too... not bad.
realitities2
hell yeah that tone was the 1st thing that came to my mind as well
such a beautiful melody
The bass man

Ditto
oh so true, its one thing to replicate Hendrix but to flow like him is a different matter!
It's called True Love 💕
Jamie Harrison's cover is pretty far superior to this. Obviously this guy did a nice job too, but Jamie Harrison is totally on another level technically and dynamically. Look it up on RUclips, you'll see what I mean
@@kalorakalora it is impressive technically but he doesn’t have the feel that this guy does
3:12 always give me goosebumps
Damn man, you make the cleanest covers of Jimis' songs I've ever heard. Props.
SlackerSystem this dude is awesome another great guy is pilky27
El Guapo He's awesome!
@@elguapo87 I like Greg the best

You seem to have found the answer, as your tone AND the notes are amazing.
The rhythm under the solo is amazing but it’s covered with an amazing solo. It’s like both parts were written as one. Great job on the cover.
I can honestly say, that was beautiful dude. That tone is to die for.
Thank you for being talented enough to show us the beauty of Hendrix. Wonderful job, buddy.
BEST COVER EVER
insane tone, you’re phenomenal dude 🎸👍🏼
Mike M. I see you on tons of Norman’s rare guitar videos.
Finn Gallagher yeah, that’s me 🎸🤘🏻
I'm a drummer for 40 years so playing Peart or Bonham isn't that big of a deal for me, but this...this is like magic to me. I love it.
i think its the chordal thing your picking up on. and the duplet shuffle feel on those chromatic walk-ups (passing tones) but he wasnt a technical guy or music theory guy, he just played what he felt and thats what we really hear.
Some people really got it. Jimi did. You do too man. Natural talent that can't be taught.
What really impressed me was the solo. Sounded spot on. Especially that one bluesy pentatonic riff that stands out. You captured exactly how he played it. Remarkable.
I never get tired of hearing WCM. It's a very well put together song and don't forget the lyrics. Very poetic.
Wow. You nailed the Big Ones. Wing. Castles. Axis. & Mary. In my dreams.
This guy plays Hendrix the best on all of the Internet
Non...de la planète, il est habité par l'âme d'hendrix..à 99,9%..stratosphérique ....
Greg, thank you for these Jimi covers. It is a blessing to be able to listen and watch you play.
Indeed it is...
Spot on cover the tone and notesmith are perfect, and a note about Hendrix. Its easy to tell a great guitarist, their seemingly quiet easy solos are as compelling as their blazing hard rock riffs. Hendrix mastered all of it.
I play drums and this is super helpful for practicing bc the vocals and drums can be really distracting. every note in this is just spot on
Congratulations on the superb way you play your guitar. If we close our eyes it feels like we are listening to Jimi Hendrix...
I don't even play, or plan on playing guitar at the moment (bass and piano player), but i am listening to all your videos, super clean and quality. Subbed keep up the good work dude.

Dude... you fucking killed it... tastey... authentic and not overplayed.
RUclips needs to add a feature that allows one to auto-like everything in someone's video list... These are incredible learning tools. And great listening.
I am an old Jimi fan and I really enjoyed watching you play. You must love his music to want to replicate it. Well done.

Wish all covers were this clear and well filmed. One of the best to learn off. To the point.

Love the cover! ✌🏾
I cannot compliment this video enough. You are a Hendrix savant!
Damm Man this Hendrix cover was and insanely awesome song. The tone and the riffs everything was perfect. I love this.
That tone is absurdly good
Thanks, Greg, now I have to go back and re-learn some parts because of your attention to detail and clean playing. :-)
You got it. It's a high hurdle to entertain with a solo electric guitar, plus really appreciate Hendrix the composer.
Well done Greg --you included that SLIDE UP at the beginning of the SOLO !--NICE !
I thought I was playing this pretty well but I just learned a ton watching this video. Great version Greg.
The man himself would be proud. I'm sure he would be flattered.
The tone. So clean but thick and full. So pretty much just a strat tone
Perfect perfect tone, sounds exactly as the original master track. Great playing as always.

This is among the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. Jimi really was ahead if his time
Nice, no gimmicks straight to business on the chords, great cover
I want to play my bass with you!!!
all the videos... I wanna cry❤️😭. You're amazing!!!!
This is so good. You really do play Jimi Hendrix well. Bravo!
Man I can't get enough of this. You've nailed it!
Really beautifully done. The fact this is done with modeling rather than a giant stack of amps is surprising. It has a good tone!
And the Hendrix thumb up on the E. Great job.
excellent guitar playing on all of your videos
THAT, is the most faithful replication I’ve seen so far. PROPS!!!
Absolutely beautiful.
Definitely the best I ever heard beautiful just breathtaking
YES, been trying to figure out the rhythm for this song more similarly to the way jimi played it, i think your nailed it.
Nice Strat & beautiful job on this song. I am looking anything you have uploaded. Thank you for sharing this.
What's also pretty cool is that the length of this video is the exact same length of the studio version of The Wind Cries Mary. Beautiful playing. I'd believe it was Hendrix playing if this video had no visuals.
Amazing playing! Great to listen to as well as watch : ) very inspirational.

To have guitar skills on this level! Probably the most faithful guitar covers of Jimi's wonderful compositions. Absolutely flawless.
