I appreciate the specific address towards the 7-year update guarantee in relation to the battery life concern and subsequent availability of battery replacement options you found in your region, since in comparison where I come from, the European Union started to address the necessity for phone manufacturers' to rudimentarily employ such practices no sooner than in 3 years from now
Glad a tech reviewer brought up the problem with the Pixels newer models. Had the same problem with my pixel 7 where the post processing is a hit or miss especially on a dim or low light environment. Heck even my pixel 3 take a more detailed and more accurate color than the newer models.
When the Pixel 6 came out, reports were equally negative. I bought that phone and it was hands down better than any flagship i owned. Pixel phones with software integration by Google are amazing
Thanks for looking at the reg Pixel 8 and I have to say you were spot on with the strenghts and weakness of the phone . I found the battery life to be just ok or kind of poor being I'm always on data for work and yeah drops connection at times. The main camera is great and the speech to text is a joy to use and the call screening is perfect. I would say if you on wifi a lot this is a great phone to buy ,but if your on data most of the time I would wait for the s24 and see how that is.
The signal loss and the selfie camera are also my issue in Pixel 7 😂 Can't believe that still hasn't been improved in 8. I hope they solve it in future Pixels.
Signal loss I had and on Pixel 7 and on Pixel 6 Pro, even it shows you have 5G, it's no loading pages, or loading very slow. Seems Pixel 8 didn't solved that problem 😒
@@ssigitas69 The Pixel in Mint color is so tempting though 😂 Makes me want to trade my 7. But it's only the color that changed and issues still persist. 😆
Let me say first that I’m a fan of the Pixel setup and the potential for them to be an android ecosystem that rivals iPhone. That said, I’ve owned the Pixel 5a, 6a, and 6 and each one had various bugs and glitches that made me so frustrated that I rage quit them and got another phone. I understand Google wants to make Tensor their own chip so they can control everything. However, their fatal mistake was basing Tensor off of modifying an Exynos chipset. Exynos chipsets are notorious for the exact same issues that Pixel phones now have: bad connectivity, running hot, and atrocious battery life. That’s not even touching upon the other random quirks. If Google truly wanted to succeed, they should have kept Snapdragon chips in Pixels at least until they could create their own fully optimized and non Exynos based chipsets. Or they simply could’ve kept Snapdragon altogether and saved themselves lots of money. Instead, they half assed it by using said Exynos based chipsets and have possibly lost a big portion of their customer base. I really hope they can fix Tensor by making their own fully custom built version. If not, the Pixel phones may end up like LG and go out of business.
Sub par connectivity stops me using the Pixel as my main phone , could Google use Tensor chip and Qualcomm modem for connectivity ? Apple use their own chip but still use Qualcomm Modem because so far they cannot produce good enough Modem despite buying Intel Modem business.
Exactly. Pixel is actually losing a lot of people from their fanbase because of this terrible tensor chip. Everyone thought google would redeem itself on this pixel 8 lineup but nah, same set of problems 2 generations ago.
Luckily they are making their very own custom chipset using TSMC’s foundry. It’s supposed to be ready for the pixel 10 debut in 2025. I guess only time will tell.
Great vid. I have been really happy with my Pixel 8 as well. Only had it a couple weeks so far, minimal complaints. I grabbed a Galileo G8 as well, works like a charm 👍
I got 3 straight Pixel 8 devices with issues. First 2 had bluetooth failures out of the box and the 3rd had some strange software quirks that support couldn't help me with. I'm looking forward to the Galaxy launch in a couple of weeks, and if that doesn't impress I might look towards the Z Flip 6. We'll see.
Google Maps not working perfectly fine on the Google Phone is a red flag for me😂 and GPS Location should not be a thing to mess around anymore, because as a person with disorientation I need my phone to Navigate me without spinning around, especially when walking 😂. I had this issues with the Galaxy S5 back then and I tell you it annoyed me so bad! And Thao I love your content!
This used to always happen with my s23 and s23u while riding my Zooz bike while riding around in the middle of nowhere late at night. It can be pretty scary. This never happened on my P3a, P5, P6P and doesn't happen at all on my P8P. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Happy new year! Great review and bummer about the camera lag and signal loss/GPS going crazy. I had my GPS go off like that with a Samsung S10 on Verizon on Utah and reception wasn't perfect inside a mall one time. I have no issue with my Pixel 6 with camera and cell signal on ATT but have lost it in the past in Costco and I've had it lose GPS in my garage. But out and about I'm totally fine. I'm happy about the G1 SoC and I've done crazy things like play Call of Duty Mobile while recording it, and uploading a previous recording to RUclips AND Facebook at the same time with no issues with lag or heating. I agree the video isn't the best but even my Pixel 6 takes some great photos. Did you know that Samsung, Google and the makers of Snapdragon are teaming up to take on Apple? I bet it's because of the video. I do miss my Samsung phone in a way, picture in picture of taking video and you can also shoot in 8k. But I am a Google super fan so... 🥂
I actually have none of the issues people have mentioned. Really though, the camera is the only thing actually going for it, not video camera. Other than that it's very similar to moto. Turning off 5g has helped with battery life, and that was a tip from a lot of other people.
Yeah I'm the same mate. I've had the phone for 2 weeks now and no problems at all. I don't play intensive games (just simple 2d puzzle game) and don't use camera much or social media. I pretty much get all day battery life for my needs. I charge only at end of day when km sleeping so care little about slow charging speeds. It's been a great phone.
I'm from South Africa but bought mine in the UK. Found out that 5G is locked outside of supported countries so I only get LTE now, which I wasn't too bothered by it as it should definitely help with battery
They could give 77 years of updates it don't matter, you are likely to get a new phone in 2 to 4 years anyway. Bad signal is something we shouldn't be dealing with in 2023 at all at this point either. I like the phone but can't get it do to the signal drops
I love my pixel 8... Specially the Rose colour and the case bundled with it.. Well plan on keeping this one for a while.. Because it does everything I need it to do...! And very well at that.. No complaints...
Going from the pixel 6 to the 8 pro. After a month of mostly WFH and it's screen is scratched to hell including the glass on the lenses. Yet no reviews mention this. My 6 after 2 years doesn't have scratches. My 2 after 5 years of use (between me and my husband) no noticeable scratches. What is going on? Also I was excited about all the talk of the amazing camera. I've been hugely disappointed to learn I can't share the footage with boost because the social media platforms don't support the file and it defaults to a 💩standard file that is flat and lifeless. Same with the hires photos.
Thank you for sharing your honest view on the pixel and also the negatives about the phone If possible users should try renaming or disabling the camera app and check for improvements. You can always try just the phone and camera to the home page.
Something I don't mind is the battery life. I work in the trades and don't normally use my phone throughout the day and, if I do use it, it's not for long periods of time.
was tempted by this phone for the software experience but got s23 instead, more solid overall and better processor. was hoping to get iphone 15 but 60hz display.. cmon apple
Really thought I wanted a smaller phone too as easier to hold too but I just returned my Pixel 8 & will go for the Pro as it felt TOO small compared to my Pixel 6.
Needing to scroll to another tab to adjust brightness and shadows instead of directly from the viewfinder is a big step backwards for me. Google just has the tendency to make simple things more complicated every time they attempt an update or sorts.
Always have been a pixel guy, I purchased the moto edge plus and have been super happy. I actually just bought the p8 but refuse to take my sim out of the moto.
I love Samsung phones and recently had the S21 with no issues until the casing seal was compromised and water got in (i dropped it quite hard) otherwise it was working just well for my needs and i had no intention to switch. However, security updates on Samsung are supported on select devices for only 5 years after release. Security updates may sound like a meme but vulnerabilities in Android are found every day. There are vulnerabilities that also do not require users to install tainted apps. Some attacks exploit VoIP and vulnerabilities in the linux bluetooth stack. Getting these exploited on your phone directly is rare but possible. Everyone switching phones so often is just not sustainable for this planet. I am leaning toward the pixel 8 if I don't have to worry about a phone forgotten by the manufacturer until 2030! I am using an interim unsupported phone and essentially am itching to get something new even though the hardware on this phone works just fine. In the meantime, I disable WiFi calling and bluetooth when I'm not using it. Consumers are put in a difficult spot, accept the risk of using a device with documented vulnerabilities or discard perfectly good hardware for a new phone every 3-5 years. Insane.
Your review I spot on specially on the battery life. I had set my refresh rate to 60 in order for it last the whole day. It's an ok phone not great. But all my friends have Iphone. Just wanted something different.
Writing this on my Pixel 2XL. Battery is still very good considering it's a 9.5 year old phone. I'm just now finally "thinking" about getting another one.
I need a phone without any buggy experience and Samsung did this pretty well for me- better than my iPhone 14 Pro Max now! I need to sell it and go back to Galaxy Android so bad! And Thao I love your content!
Damn the no location just helped make my decision... I have the Pixel 7 & I have so many problems staying connected to 5G or anything... So for it to do that too on the Pixel 8, I think I'm going to go back to Samsung Galaxy (S24)
Hello, Thanks for the video. I have the 8 pro but not happy with the display panel, the color temperature is on the warm side. Google should have put a slider to adjust white balance.
I'm *_very_*_ satisfied_ with my P8. I typically get much better SOT than you, probably b/c I'm not a gamer & do not shoot video. And yeah, the screen & ergonomics are pretty awesome.
I found 2 main problems in Google's - Pixel 8. First is lowest Screen Refresh Rate & Second is worst camera resolution as compared to the pro series smart phones in Google or competitor ones. I would suggest don't go for buying Google Pixel 8 phones as i have spent & experiencing the problems.
If you are thinking about buying this phone and wear your phone in your backpocket often, consider that the camera bar will catch onto the fabric of your pocket a lot. I had to learn the hard way, after I thought I put it in my pocket and let go and the phone fell on the ground. :')
From all the reviews, I love the main camera on pixel 8 for photos and the magic editor, but I hate it for almost everything else it has (poor performance & battery life) or doesn't offer (pro controls in camera, better FPS, satellite communication, external display support, etc.).
Ive been reading about signal issues on GPixel phones, and I do start feeling like thats a deal breaker for me... I've been having problems with wifi and signal with my old huawei for a long time and I don't want to deal with that anymore. Phone primary use should be being able to answer and making calls XD
Sounds like it has most of the same issues I had on the Pixel 6 Pro. Useless compass, terrible signal, bad selfie camera, bad video recording, very slow response to all kinds of things that should be fast. It never felt like a flagship. Samsung phones are just a lot better to use right now. Never thought I would say that a few years ago but it is very true.
Pixel 8 is a very nice phone overall but tensor/exynos chip doesn't have that good of a modem which could explain your signal loss. Google will start using a different chip with the Pixel 10.
I got the Samsung Note 9 when it released in 2018. So 7 years of software updates sound fantastic, but we have to be wary. Google has a habit of dropping things, and I feel the Pixel 8 may not reach all 7.
on pixel 8, there is a gap between the aluminum frame and the back cover on the side of the buttons, which is not on the other side. In the promo video, they focus on it, but other users don't have it, is this
Does anyone have any thoughts around if the galaxy s24 (ultra) will be better than the pixel and iPhone camera wise? I keep hearing mixed things. Upgrading from the galaxy s10+
Blimey this channel takes me back. I remember this channel being massively pro Samsung. I bought an S9+ which was one of the worst phones I've owned and I've never trusted Samsung since.
I'm on Pixel 8 pro. Love the camera and updated video, speaker as well. Display is fantastic. Pixel has improved on all those fronts. But the familiar problems continue to be ignored. I don't know why * BT issues still rock the boat. Connectivity with car + headphones goes wild sometimes * Fonts are atrocious. Apps don't use standard fonts at all. Google's default standard for fonts are AMAZING. Apps like Whatsapp, Chase choose their own fonts and they are too small or too big. Makes the overall phone experience very bad * Assistant behavior is weird, somtimes it gives feedback and sometimes it does not. Samsung does better than Pixel in this space I got to a point where I could not take it anymore and switched to iPhone. Love the consistency
RE: Fingerprint reader - They need to put it onto the back of the phone again. Pixel 2 and 2XL had it in the perfect place where your fingers rest on the back. It was unique and nobody was doing it, and worked much better and faster than any sensor behind the screen I've used.
I can't with the slow battery charging. I'm using a Oneplus 10T. I like it quite a bit, but unimpressed with oneplus 11 and oneplus 12. I will not be purchasing those phones. Looks like I will be waiting over to purchase a new phone. I truly rely on fast charging on most day.
Just got mine yesterday, the selfie photos look so pale in low light, and i couldnt fast charge without the original cable, my old cable fast charge works with my samsung too
Honestly Google should just copy apple and give two pro models just one bigger than the other no compromises (except battery and display size) and leave the pixel A model as their mid range phone!
Happy New Years Everyone! Sorry for being MIA, excited to be back ☺️

I kind of wish they would bring back the fingerprint censor that were on the back of Pixels 1-5, those were the best.
Yes I agreed fingerprints sensor on the back was the best thing, I love to use it to bring down top menu bar
That's one thing I appreciate every single day in my Pixel 5. Not sure how they could bring it back in with the current design

I agree with your statement of the amount of pixels being used in Toronto, it's crazy how many people I've seen on the train or bus using a pixel.

Pixel 8 is a very nice phone overall but tensor/exynos chip doesn't have that good of a modem which could explain your signal loss. Google will start using a different chip with the Pixel 10.
S22 owner... I miss my old Pixel 4a so much....
Also seconded and Spigen cases are not great
I got the Samsung Note 9 when it released in 2018.
In the promo video, they focus on it, but other users don't have it, is this
What's the calculator widget you used? It looked great
WCalc
Could they fix the camera issues with a software update?
My pet peeve with phone cameras is the low res selfie cameras.
Omg where have you been? Hope you are doing well.
Does anyone have any thoughts around if the galaxy s24 (ultra) will be better than the pixel and iPhone camera wise? I keep hearing mixed things.
Upgrading from the galaxy s10+
This is what a perfect review looks like
Blimey this channel takes me back.
I don't know why
* BT issues still rock the boat. Connectivity with car + headphones goes wild sometimes
* Fonts are atrocious. Apps don't use standard fonts at all. Google's default standard for fonts are AMAZING. Apps like Whatsapp, Chase choose their own fonts and they are too small or too big. Makes the overall phone experience very bad
* Assistant behavior is weird, somtimes it gives feedback and sometimes it does not. Samsung does better than Pixel in this space
I got to a point where I could not take it anymore and switched to iPhone. Love the consistency
1:25 is that thao with those killer moves!!!
Helloo what game controller were you using on the phone?
Gamesir G8
Google is cancelling orders when your holiday ship delay dates approach. No email you just login to the store and see your order was cancelled.
I am a pixel user and I am so frustrated with the janky scrolling on pixel. I had the 8 and now the 8 pro and both disastrous.
Enjoy, thats google for u. Master of broken updates
RE: Fingerprint reader - They need to put it onto the back of the phone again. Pixel 2 and 2XL had it in the perfect place where your fingers rest on the back. It was unique and nobody was doing it, and worked much better and faster than any sensor behind the screen I've used.
I'd argue it should be on the front because of wireless charging. Magsafe batteries that attach to your phone while you use it are more common now.
What kind of gaming controller are you using on your phone at the end of the video?!
It's the Gamesir G8 Galileo
I can't with the slow battery charging. I'm using a Oneplus 10T. I like it quite a bit, but unimpressed with oneplus 11 and oneplus 12. I will not be purchasing those phones. Looks like I will be waiting over to purchase a new phone. I truly rely on fast charging on most day.
That’s you dancing there 1:23
good review. I also don't like the battery life and charging speed is awful
Just got mine yesterday, the selfie photos look so pale in low light, and i couldnt fast charge without the original cable, my old cable fast charge works with my samsung too
Beautiful review 👌🙌🤩 greetings.
Honestly Google should just copy apple and give two pro models just one bigger than the other no compromises (except battery and display size) and leave the pixel A model as their mid range phone!
