no but i use all 3 so im an odd duck for a non reviewer lol. i would upgrade from my 7 pro but need 512gb and since its only offered in black (which is a no for me) in Canada I will not be getting one. Google is really doesnt have any regard for Canadian customers as they limit colors/storage variants here, Ive always had a google device in rotation as far back as the Galaxy Nexus but until they treat us with some respect I think I'm done with them which is unfortunate.
This review is the most comprehensive I have seen on the Pixel 8 Pro. You have wonderfully described the benefits of the phone as a daily user, and avoided the endless rehashing of the spec wars. Even noting something as simple as how the phone sits flat on a table shows me a newfound reason to consider the Pixel 8 pro. Thank you and fantastic work.
Had a pixel 2 and loved it, got a 4a, loved it even more- I accidentally walked into a pool with it. Got a S22 and missed my Pixel the entire time, didn't want a 7 cause of the heating issues. Cut to now, pre-ordered The Pixel 8 Pro. First time preordering a phone, first time owning any Pro phone. I am so pumped to be back on team pixel.
I think Pixel is focused on competing with Apple, not so much Samsung. An iPhone owner would have an easier time switching to Pixel than any other Android phone.
@@mtf_savage_beasts2565 half of their "new features" are already exists in other brands.. so what is the innovation, to lock the features on the none pro devices, even if they also had the same Tensor G3 chip, they have the same camera lens, but they have different features.. Thank you for doing a truly honest review of this phone!! You are one of the few youtubers that have done a "real" review on the device, and this is why i am subbed to you!
First time seeing one of your reviews and this is the best Pixel phone review I have seen yet. I feel like most 'reviews' today have been showing features rather than sharing their experiences so thank you!
Love your reviews! I preordered the Pixel 8 Pro and got the Pixel 2 Watch for free. Too good of a deal for me to pass up. Trading in my Pixel 7. I love the software experience and the camera is incredible. 7 years of support is great, I plan to keep it for a long time. Keep up the good work, bye!
9:23 I don't trust Google for a second when they say 7 years full support. If they really were committed and wanted to prove so, they would have gone back and given the Pixel 3/4/5 the latest updates. I had the Pixel 3 as well. Google abandoned that phone with sub 3 years of updates AND left it on the worst/buggiest OS (launch Android 12 without the subsequent fixes), making the phone unusable. I guarantee that the "seven years" will be somehow compromised and disingenuous - or just flat out abandoned.
i still use pixel xl, it still supports unlimited storage for photos and videos at original quality, I also received one extra year for OS update which wasn't promised it came with android 7 and I now have android 10 in it, I also received 2 extra years for security updates. So they offered more than they promised. but there is a possibility because iphone makes their phones slower after sending updates and also makes the camera quality bad in older iphones.
I'm so excited, my 8 pro should be here today. I'm switching over from the s20 plus. Haven't had a Pixel since the 3 XL that I used to have. But I have really missed the pure Android UI and exclusive pixel features.
You are my favorite tech RUclipsr! Would love to see you do some videos on e-ink devices (i.e. the boox and bigme android tablets, the new boox Palma, new dasung colour e-ink monitor) I believe e-ink is about to get very big. Great for eyes and avoiding the effects of blue light exposure + visibility is amazing in sunlight. My dream phone is a flip smart phone like the Samsung with an e-ink outer display
Im actually getting mine today switching from zflip 4 and since coming to android first phone was the moto phone that let you attach a projector to the back of it but after that was Samsung, really hope its worth it!
Love mine in porcelain and I can already tell the battery and the speakers are better, although I didn't have the major heating issue like other consumers, this phone(even transferring data and apps over) got warm but not too the point of hot which any phone would when setting up AND charging.. Overall Pixel has always been the definition of a smartphone
Nice review. I think it would be an alright phone but, in order for me to drop samsung and move to pixel the phone would have to work very well up north where i work. It would be interesting to do tests on call quality, wifi strength, and single strengths between the other 2. Sending good vibes from Calgary Alberta

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Pixel 8 vs iPhone 15. I ended up purchasing the iPhone 15 Pro Max because I was having battery life and overheating issues with my Pixel 6a and 7. It seems like the Pixel 8 may have fixed those problems. While I do like the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s speed and battery life I’m still in the return window so what’s tempting me for a last minute switch is that I like Google’s software, the new “best take” feature, and the price after trade-in! 😅 I’ve had bad experiences with Pixel longevity for a while now but at the cost of my iPhone I would need to keep it for many years to come which shouldn’t be too bad from the processor side but it might sting as the battery gets older and the camera tech continues to advance.
Did you read the comment you are responding to? At no point did any of his questions or stated priorities have anything to do with your single reason for recommending the iPhone- better resale value.
Not only is pixel 8 doing a lot better with battery and heating, but the new Android update has by itself solved these problems for most users on both pixel 6 and 7 series phones. The new update is a big game changer. It really comes down to wether you value software or hardware. For me, using the pixel is a significantly better experience over using iPhone and I can't imagine ever buying an iPhone again, but iphones clearly have better battery life and performance if that's more important to you.
@@billbones92I never understood the hype pixel had till I tried the 7 pro(and now my daily driver) and now I'm in love with android again(pixel to be exact). Android was/is and always will be my preference but after using Samsung for some years, I just got bored with it and went back to IPhone but I felt something was missing and finally went with Pixel and no regrets. And after A14 update? Just a game changer. Better battery life and running way cooler(mind you, never had an issue with heath management and I live in a hot country).

Nice review of the Pixel. I do think it is funny that most of my iPhone user friends when we are out will ask me to to use my phone to take pictures because they'll 'say your phone takes better pictures.' LOL
Your little one is still a scene stealer! Also as a non-gamer, non-video-taker I'm very excited that the smaller Pixel 8 is on its way to me (replacing my P7 w/ a Google Fi trade-in).
The key with the 7 years promise is that I can pass the phone down to my sisters, then they can pass it to my grandma/mom. We did that a lot in our family, 6+ years of usage is an easy number to hit; thus, my entire family has been on iPhones for as long as I can remember.
I've gotta say its one of the things that totally baffles me with the brightness. So glad you demonstrated the brightness slider next to the s23U. As that's exactly what I did, I need about 85/90% brightness on the pixel to match 50% on the ultra... It just feels... Wrong? 😂 I just dont get the logic. It's like Google cram in all the higher brighten to the final 5/10% of the slider, why google? Why?!
This is actually the best review yet. Just focused on daily normal use for average users. Not showing 300 picture samples and talking 10 minutes about features we already know
If you have a PXL 6, 7 then I would go for the Pro to feel the upgrade. If you have the 6 pro and 7 pro and notice that the larger screen and the telephoto is useless is not a bad idea to downgrade to the regular PXL 8. Especially that the PXL 8 carries a 120hz panel. For some reason I had a giant hole burning my pocket and I upgraded from the 7 Pro to the 8 pro and paid 550 after trade in with a free watch... I'm not that blessed to throw 550 for a better AI. I do like the flat display more and the wide angle/macro camera. The frosted glass is much better no finger prints. I'm still not crazy about the shiny metal around the camera it scratches quite easy.
Commenting from a Pixel 8 Pro right now, my last phone was a Iphone 12 Pro Max. Ive been an Apple fanboy all mu life so i was a bit hesitant about making the switch to Android, its fair to say i dont think i will be ever going back. I love the pixel 8 Pro
I don't know if this phone will get me away from my Huawei Mate 20 Pro - close to 5 years and it's so hard to find something better... this one is close, but thinking about it... I'm questioning the battery life. My huawei lasts me a long time battery-wise. A great feature, my phone charges 70% in 30mins. A huge bonus for my huawei. I am aware this Pixel 8 Pro has a larger battery than the HM20Pro, but how long will that take to charge? with the best face feature also, I am cautious whether this will make the faces look like they're obviously edited.. does anyone have any opinion or information about the Pixel 8 Pro regarding these?
I had the mate P30 pro, I had to let it go since it was not compatible with a Carrier I was going to switch over. That phone was so good, never had any issues. Went with a Motorola edge 21 which was decent but the camera is really bad. The reason why I switched to a pixel 8 pro after testing the moto edge 23 and the OnePlus 11which I was wasn't on any of them. The battery for the pixel is just as good or little worse than my Moto edge 21, I was at 40 percent from 6 am to 2:30pm after normal usage, minimal multimedia playing. It's not looking good after day 1,what can I expect after a year of battery usage?. The AIs features always required an Internet connection, so most of the photo editing is gone out of the window without any Internet. The screen calling is a game changer but I also had that on my Moto edge. I'll give it a few days more before I make makeup on $1000 phone. Huawei not being available for US markets really give us less options for great phones.
I have both the iPhone 15 Pro (wife's) and the Pixel 8 Pro (Mine) and I can tell you that 90% of the time I prefer the photos from the Pixel 8 Pro and 70% of the time the videos from the Pixel 8 Pro over the iPhone 15 Pro.
Very comprehensive review, you really focus on the parts that matter! Some people have been complaining that apps like RUclips, X and Reddit aren't optimized for this CPU, and that the scrolling can get choppy and laggy. Is that something that you've experienced?
Healthy competition and diversity certainly is good for everyone, it helps propel technology quicker, more choices for consumer. Remember the days when we got Sony Ericsson, Motorola , Nokia, HTC, O2, BlackBerry etc. I certainly don't want to spend a fortune in a device and then 2-3 years later, manufacturer deems them obsolete. Especially with the insane price tag these days.
You're a true reviewer unlike others who still wear their apple watch yet reviewing an android device deceiving their viewers how great the device they're reviewing is.
I also like that the Magic Editor has a link below the photo being edited to provide feedback about results - proves they're still tuning this AI feature
Planning to buy a new phone and currently exploring my options so whenever I need an in-depth review about a phone, so I go to your channel! Thank you so much for your comprehensive and in-depth reviews!
Excellent video Thao! I subscribed and look forward to your future videos! I am schedule to receive my Pixel 7 Pro 256 GB storage in Porcelain today (yeah, we like the same color) for $1099. I'm also getting the $350 Pixel Watch 2 for free and Google is giving me $420 trade-in for my Pixel 7 Pro. Basically, I'm getting $1450 worth of merch for $680. Now that's a deal! People need to really start considering the Pixel brand. I've owned every XL and Pro Pixel since the OG Pixel XL and I can honestly say that each year Pixel was an improvement over the previous year model. Pixel 8 Pro is definitely no exception here!
I'm finding it struggling, also if you don't hold the camera still enough (not a problem with my 6). I assume this is due to the fact it's taking multiple shots and layering them.
Thank you so much for actually adding in the rich color and the ultra HDR. I have not seen another RUclipsr mention this and this is such a big deal especially the ultra HDR. It makes everything pop so much better. This will be a staple that all other phones will use in the future IMO.
This is going to be my first Google Pixel phone ever. Hopefully it will arrive within a few days and in worse case scenario the end of next week! I just discovered your channel it is bloody awesome 😎. Oh if i may give you a compliment you have such beautiful hair!
Glad you got around the "technical difficulties" Thao 😅😊 They have bigger plans for that temperature sensor. Supposedly they're just waiting for FDA approval to gauge human temperature.
Jerry (at AC) thinks that sensor (part of the _camera_ system which approximates temp via reflection) could be used as an _infrared camera_ by some clever app dev.
1 year So far the Pixel 7 Pro still a stelar. Despite the promotion Free watch I pass it with out resistence. I would rather getting the Dji 4 basic (I have most anything else) also for me it is a great investement than upgrade from 7 pro - to Pixel 8 Pro. Pixels are for Image quality even the older Pixels are still Amazing not for Vid's. Anyway thanks for your review!!
I look more into that now than ever. The pixel 7 pro has a very poor signal where I work, but samsung and iPhone are better in that department. At the end of the day, it's a cell phone that needs to work like a phone.
I love my 6a but the Pixel pro 8 is very tempting..$300 trade in, free watch, $50 Best buy gift card. I just wish the pro features were on the 6.2" Pixel 8.
😂😂. No. I will give smarter software although app experience is better on iPhone. Processing power it’s no comparison. Display I will give pixel. Camera is a wash, since both take great photos and iPhone records better video. Battery I’m seeing iPhone is better. And biometrics, no. Finger print is behind the competition and the face unlock still doesn’t work at night. And like Thai said, what’s the point of the temperature sensor? Not saying pixel is a bad phone, I think it’s great. Personally if I went android I would get pixel. But SO MUCH better? No.
I went with Obsidian and have loved it! I will admit though coming from an iPhone the speakers are the only let down. They're not terrible by any means definitely good, but definitely not as loud. The camera is amazing! To me it's like the best of iPhone and Samsung. Definitely feel like I made a good purchase. Maybe Pixel is what i needed to leave iOS for a while.
I’m an iPhone user, I upgraded from a 13 to a 15 PM. I thought I would see a difference, subtle but something just so bored of iOS. I want to switch between my iPhone, and an android. So you’ve had no regrets? You don’t miss your iPhone at all? Amazon has a deal on the pixel 8 Pro. I was getting ready to grab it but I’m just not sure. What personally makes you enjoy the pixel more?
Going from the pixel 6 to the 8 pro. After a month of mostly WFH and it's screen is scratched to hell including the glass on the lenses. Yet no reviews mention this. My 6 after 2 years doesn't have scratches. My 2 after 5 years of use (between me and my husband) no noticeable scratches. What is going on? Also I was excited about all the talk of the amazing camera. I've been hugely disappointed to learn I can't share the footage with boost because the social media platforms don't support the file and it defaults to a 💩standard file that is flat and lifeless. Same with the hires photos.
Hey, thank you for the review even though I ordered the regular Pixel 8 I watched your cause you do such a good job I don’t know in the future your plans are to look at the regular rate, but that would be cool
Always look forward to your reviews, Thao. Seems like a very solid phone, just a few hang ups for me, compared to Samsung still. Worse efficiency/thermals as you highlighted, which isn't great for concert-goers, videographers, or Pokemon Go players (3 things that I am, from time to time), is a big one. Another is more advanced features like Sound Assistant (separate app volumes, separate audio outputs, custom volume button intervals, etc), Good Lock, pop up view, some camera flexibility, hiding the navigation pill at the bottom, etc. Of course, Pixel has some great advantages too, like many aspects of the camera, the Google assistant, voice dictation, and arguably cleaner software (I also really like the distinctive hardware design). Still, I think it's hard for me to give up the advantages of the Samsung flagships right now. The gap between the two keeps getting smaller on both ends, so it's possible that it will soon be just a matter of preference over software and hardware design, along with some small features.
Final Q - How good is the 4K Video at far away subjects and when the light is poor ? - same with video ? - does it go mushy past 5X Optical range ? both stills and video - Unfortuantely like for like RUclipsrs don't want to answer my sensible Q's.
Tell me please. Does it do 4k 60p hdr with lens switching at the same time like the new iphone 15 pro? Previous year 7 pro only did it without hdr, in only 8 bit. Does it do hdr know with 4k 60p lens switching?
I Love the Look of the New Pixel 8 Pro, and the New 3 in 1 Camera cut out amazing, Google please keep! I find the temperature Sensor really useful and use it very often just an amazing feature Google!
my XS max is dying, I think I am gonna get a new phone but I am kind of in two minds about IP15 and P8pro, as I am quite sticked to the apple ecosystem, I got a Mac, and there are many apps and other things related to my Apple account, and passwords which are saved in my iphone settings. Therefore, do you think I can switch to pixel with no potential loss or disadvantage, and is it worth buying?
Problem with Google phones is there reviews are so inconsistent, several other reviews have noted the speakers seem to be a downgrade from last years 7 pro, some reviewers noting battery battery life, others worse.. smoother UI and better performance or no improvements whatsoever/ cameras and video quality etc.. either not all pixels are built the same or there's something going on with inconsistent software
the benchmarks don't match the real world usage. as in real world I use google assistant and voice typing in many things and that has been much much faster than iphones evrytime
video footage of u in the binnie cap was so good on pixel 8 pro it was miles better than apple and sunsung🤯 don't the rounded corners cut down the videos? it would be good if they make box screen than rounded corners I feel. already there is camera hole getting in the way of watching a video now they have rounded corners to cut the display as well🥺
I cannot decide between the Iphone 14 plus and Pixel 8 pro 😩 because on apple I know its easy with creating pdf files just with the camera.. just as an example
✌Did Google do enough with the Pixel 8 Pro to pull you away from Apple or Samsung?
I have to try first but I am not sure I have the s22 ultra or try or wait for the s24 ultra
They already did with the 6a

Same here Neutral colors is king
You're a true reviewer unlike others who still wear their apple watch yet reviewing an android device deceiving their viewers how great the device they're reviewing is.
great job! and thanks for introducing me to Dylan Sitts
I also like that the Magic Editor has a link below the photo being edited to provide feedback about results - proves they're still tuning this AI feature
Older people wont know anything about software updates unless they have a techie like u in there lives
Just switched from iphone to new pixel 8 pro. Absolutely loving it
100% agree with your color ranking. You have taste.
Hi Thao, does the Pixel 8 do okay with camera shots that included moving subjects or does it struggle like the Samsung's?
Switching from which phone?
@@elisamuelpedraza8228 I am switching from the Motorola Defy 2021 to the Pixel 8 pro, so that will be a huge improvement 😂😂.
Finally someone who got the color of the phones in the right order
I hadn't finished watching this. Great review and now it has Gemini Live! I'm curious if you talk about Live in your other videos. I'm gonna check
Glad you got around the "technical difficulties" Thao 😅😊
They have bigger plans for that temperature sensor. Supposedly they're just waiting for FDA approval to gauge human temperature.
Jerry (at AC) thinks that sensor (part of the _camera_ system which approximates temp via reflection) could be used as an _infrared camera_ by some clever app dev.
For the "not enough light" error with face unlock, Google should add an option to use the screen as a flash to prevent that.
imagine that activating in bed... that would be blinding and slower than just using the finger print
This is a downside of their approach. They need an IR cam or ToF cam for unlocking in the dark.
I wonder if the batterys would be better this time around ???
My dad still uses the galaxy s6 edge lol -__-
WOW!! I am surprised that phone still works, I had it when it had first come out and then switched once s9 came out haha
I still use pixel XL
I have been using my phone Huawei p20 pro for about five years and it would be great if it was receiving updates until now.
Thanks ❤
Thao I love your videos! I have to ask what is the little pin hole on the camera visor is it a speaker?
The video even looks better then last years phone
Comprehensive review. Thank you very much Thao.
Thanks! --- Bluetooth 5.3 vs 5.2? Wifi performance? Cell phone signal quality? Phone call audio performance including speaker phone.
I look more into that now than ever. The pixel 7 pro has a very poor signal where I work, but samsung and iPhone are better in that department. At the end of the day, it's a cell phone that needs to work like a phone.
@@mikeatkinson6237 yeah my pixel 6 pro seemed to be having issues and wanted to get feedback to see if i should upgrade.
I love my 6a but the Pixel pro 8 is very tempting..$300 trade in, free watch, $50 Best buy gift card. I just wish the pro features were on the 6.2" Pixel 8.
love it 🔥
❤️❤️❤️😘😘
the face unlock confirm option is in the settings.
So much better than iPhone
Shhhhh... that's illegal 😂
Facts are facts and google is proving it everyday
😂😂. No.
*Thao
Modems laughing in the corner, so is battery, overheating issues, speakers, video
First time viewer.. watching on my 7pro. Great video . Thanks!
I thought I would see a difference, subtle
but something just so bored of iOS.
How to get that Now Playing feature? you mentioned...Nvr mind I found it... nice feature Settings>Sound & Vibration>Now Playing - Done
Hey, thank you for the review even though I ordered the regular
Pixel 8 I watched your cause you do such a good job I don’t know in the future your plans are to look at the regular rate, but that would be cool
Thao has slowly become my go-to. MKBHD's video was like 10 minutes longer but I got way more out of this one.
The resolution for the Pixel 8 Pro is listed wrong on the graphic.
honesty you make me love my pixel now lol nice video and examples def worth my time
What soap do you use for eczema ?
Final Q - How good is the 4K Video at far away subjects and when the light is poor ? - same with video ? - does it go mushy past 5X Optical range ? both stills and video - Unfortuantely like for like RUclipsrs don't want to answer my sensible Q's.
Tell me please. Does it do 4k 60p hdr with lens switching at the same time like the new iphone 15 pro? Previous year 7 pro only did it without hdr, in only 8 bit. Does it do hdr know with 4k 60p lens switching?
In india only blue color launched, white color not introduced, in future is there any chance for 8pro
This is how to do a review! Awesome job, Thao!
Yellow is one of your favorite colors right? 😉
Awesome review though👌🏾
I don't understand why google would degrade the resolution? 1440 p was great. 😢
Your mom has great taste in phones. P3 XL not pink was my favorite phone of all time. Loved the design, haptics, cameras. So good 👍
Same, till mine died when the updates stopped 😮 moved onto 6 & now ready for an 8 Pro I think..
What about the connectivity? Is the modem better?
it has wifi 7 other phones offer wifi 6 and wifi 6e
Nice review and the baby ❤❤
Thanks for your honest review. I don't like wobble'y phones!
Loved this video Thao!
I don’t care about benchmark number. I think pixel 8 pro got it right this year. Google got it right
CPU and GPU matter in a few years.
Look at iPhone XS Max, still smooth today vs janky Pixel 3 and even Pixel 4
the benchmarks don't match the real world usage. as in real world I use google assistant and voice typing in many things and that has been much much faster than iphones evrytime
Pls kindly elaborate on What you meant by the Google Boost pictures and videos you reported coming out in November.
Really cool review .. Nicely done
is the screen more reflective than, say an s23u or iphone 15 pm ?
Yeah. iPhone does the best with reflections, followed by S23U then Pixel 8 Pro
@@thao awesome, thx for the info!
The ai wallpaper is such a letdown, compared to what i can generate on bings image creator, its light years ahead.
video footage of u in the binnie cap was so good on pixel 8 pro it was miles better than apple and sunsung🤯 don't the rounded corners cut down the videos? it would be good if they make box screen than rounded corners I feel. already there is camera hole getting in the way of watching a video now they have rounded corners to cut the display as well🥺
I must be crazy. I found the 7pro fingerprint scanner to be one of the best.
Great review, can't wait to see how night sight video and video boost perform!
Love your pink Herschel hat 🩷🩷🩷
I cannot decide between the Iphone 14 plus and Pixel 8 pro 😩 because on apple I know its easy with creating pdf files just with the camera.. just as an example
Why are you so sad on the preview? At first I thought that you didn’t like the device.)
