Absolutely! I love how people try to find modern expressions of shanties and similarly vocally oriented songs, incl. The Longest Johns and Nathan Evans. But David Coffin is extraordinary in all these songs, really expressing their core often through just his own voice... Very impressive! :)
Just wait until you see the original edited with loads of native British wildlife and trees. That's a serious vibe that makes me actually consider just heading into the forest
Every version of this song I’ve heard gives it a totally different feeling. The Longest Johns sounds like a pirate party in a tavern, Peter Bellamy’s sounds like a bunch of mournful ghosts in a graveyard waiting for “judgement tide”, and this one makes me think of a powerful tree spirit singing proudly of his home.
This song holds a special place in my heart. I work in forestry in central Ohio. We have rare Burr Oak, Blue Ash and Washington Hawthorn. I sing this song every time I call the birds to come eat.

Just discovering you. Your voice brings up my childhood days listening to my mother play Stan Rogers at night. I love this song so, thanks for your recording.
Thank you so much! Your songs are helping to carry me through these crazy times. Would you, perhaps, ever consider posting the song "Shenandoah"? I think your voice and that song are made for each other! Thank you again for sharing!
David, this is truly amazing, I thought to roll the old chariot was my favorite song of yours, but this blew me away. It is also funny that it took me a while to realize there is no music to this. Thank you for uploading this.
Your voice is amazing! Congratulations! RUclips is missing videos of sea shanties sang by a group. Could you consider remaking shanties in a group? Something like the "Roll the Old Chariot", with your strong voice and people in the back chorus, that video is unbelievable, it gives me goosebumps every time i watch! I can only imagine listening to every famous shanty sang by a group like that

i like the longest johns version more, but this one feels straight out of the time period (medieval-ish iirc) also wish they included that extra verse in their version.
By far the only version worth listening to besides Peter's. I dont care for this new insurgence of Redditors and TikTok folk co-op'ting folk and shanties for some faux masculinity points.
