Shorts still work really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of fame ster, but that's a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial boost, and that caused them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

Also have to take in consideration you are known. Results will vary depending on if you already have a community or not. And it doesn't matter if you share the new channel with others, just about 932k viewers already know your face and content and will go watch where they can find you.

Really interesting insights! I have only just started my channel and shorts are helping grow the most. Posting 3-4 per week at the moment and usually one 'takes off' with a couple of thousand views (compared to 100 views), and always gives the channel a view new subscribers. After watching this I might up-it to 1 short per day and see what happens.

You are absolutely correct. The shorts have actually gotten more subscribers than the long form videos for me. And the quick 1k-3k views followed by a flatline is exactly what I've experienced. I also had 1 or 2 shorts that got the quick rise, flat line and then another quick rise. One did about 2500 views, flatlined and an hour or so later, it did another 4000 views in a matter or minutes. But overall those 15-20 second shorts usually get me 8 to 10 hours of view time and 8 to 15 subscribers for just a few moments of quick editing. So it's definitely worth it to me when I'm still working to get monetized! ✈🌎

We’re already doing shorts and they are indeed great to grow a channel with two caveats:
    1) they don’t count towards 4000h (mind if you’re just starting - we will hit 1k soon, but won’t have enough watchtime)
    2) as you mentioned it’s important to make shorts similar to what the main videos are, so your audience will watch them, otherwise it may be a handicap if your subscribers won’t even watch your videos they will be less promoted on RUclips

Great info on shorts Jeven. My motorcycle travel channel is just a few months old (since I started posting in November last year).
I experimented with a few shorts here and there.
I see the same pattern on shorts that you describe (just my numbers are much lower, probably due to being a very small / new channel) - though was able to get most of my shorts over 1k views.
For my content, what worked were 10 - 20 second shots that showed me riding through a series of curves, having to avoid collision with cows/sheep in rural areas).
I have never done 30 in 30 type of experiment with shorts. I will push myself to it. I will try longer ones 30 -60 seconds with voiceover the running titles. Thank you for the tip for the app for it - previously I tried to add this manually!

I've noticed the 1 hour effect on every short I've done. I've kind of given up on shorts because I haven't figured out how to make them work for what I want to do with my channel, but your video is making me reconsider.
If I pull a bit out of a long to get some visibility, my subscribers occasionally mention they'd already seen it in the long. And making a short ad for my channel isn't of interest to shorts viewers really. So I need unique content that's suited to short form. Perhaps some content I cut out of the long so we have a "theme" based on current content on my channel, but it would still be unique to viewers. Of course, I can't just make shorts out of the garbage parts. It needs to be interesting, but it needs to be unique.

Find those exciting moments in long form to hook in “new subscribers”. The shorts aren’t for the current supporters, it’s for the new people. Plus the short content is giving you new exposure to more people. You got this. Let’s goooooooo!

This is music to my ears as I'd given up on shorts due to so many people saying that narrative based shorts don't work. All the advice was just post single shot simple shorts and I want to have a narrative.
My channel has stopped really growing recently because I stopped doing tech video as well as adventure video to just concentrate on the outdoors videos. I'm going to try this! maybe 6 shorts a week and then a long form video once a week.

Will get me some practice, and get my brain more focused on how to do short form. I expect pretty crappy shorts for a while though !! I would like some additional followuip.. maybe how you do shorts from beginning to end.. without giving away all the secret sauce !!

Making 30 shorts in 30 days is a great idea for several reasons. First, it helps to develop discipline and consistency in the creative process. By committing to creating a short film every day for a month, you are forced to come up with new ideas and push yourself to create something new and unique each day.
Second, it allows for experimentation and exploration of different film styles and techniques. With each short, you have the opportunity to try something new, whether it's experimenting with different camera angles or exploring a new genre.
Finally, making 30 shorts in 30 days can help to build a portfolio of work that can be used to showcase your skills and creativity. It can be a great way to gain exposure and build a following, as well as a stepping stone towards larger projects in the future.
Overall, making 30 shorts in 30 days is a challenging but rewarding experience that can help to develop skills, build a portfolio, and push creative boundaries.

@happycorn3r We did finish the 30-day challenge. Overall, it was a growth in a subscribers count, but nothing really crazy, maybe 10% more than our regular growth. But we quickly realized that the subscribers from the short format are not interested in our long format. And we prefer creating long form videos. So, this strategy does not really align with us. But we believe if the subscribers count is important, then this can be a good tool to gain subscribers. However, they won't necessarily become your viewers or part of the community.

We are a comedy duo and are doing skits on Shorts on our channel. We just completed 30 days on RUclips and have gained a total of 105 subscribers (we started from absolute 0). However, none of the content has really gone viral, although the audience reception has been pretty decent (like ratio etc). Still waiting for our big break, we will keep grinding in our shorts, hopefully one day something will hit. Thanks for this video Jeven!! I'm a new channel and my thought was only on long form content. But I started playing with Shorts and what you say does work. Although on a much smaller scaler than your big channels, but the shorts bring me a good amount subscribers and push interest in the long form videos. ✈🌎

Shorts can definitely bring you more attention to your channel, however they will be dead subs most of the time I'm a afraid. But I'm not pretending to know it all here, I have a wee hobby channel, but it's always good to learn new things.
