    Finally some good solid advice from a genuine person who’s sharing his experience with shorts. I think there’s a lot of small channels out there that are confused as to why their shorts don’t work like their long form videos, myself included. Thanks Jeven for sharing. It’s cleared a few things up for me. 👍

      Every time you two changes the algorithm, my views go down and they lose my audience. I’m unable to get my views passed 800 while I’m rocking and rolling. Now I’m flatlining at 26 views lately.

    You nailed it, Jeven. I'll upload one or two shorts a week and it'll get those spikes every time. The % duration is an important metric in my opinion. I try to make my shorts as entertaining + informative as possible to keep people watching. Captions also help a ton you'd be surprised how many people watch without audio.

    As always, your content is great. Every minute of your videos gives us creators valuable information without the fluff of meaningless interactions or unrelated story bits. I've learned so much from you over the last few months, from story-telling to drone-flying and now the shorts. Thank you!

    Hey Jeven!! Thanks for this video! I've watched your other and now I'm on it too for almost a month now producing shorts almost everyday and these are the graphs I see also. I agree with all the points you mentioned, one thing only is about the captions. I think the one word captions are really difficult for someone who's not a native English speaker. I understand your way of speaking perfectly, but I found myself watching some other creators with more difficult accents and those captions were the same as nothing, impossible to keep up. I'd say 3 words is really the sweetspot :D Thanks again, great video, and hike!

    My shorts were rocking it! 1000-10k+ Feb 28 hit and now like 50-100. Contacted RUclips and get “viewers choosing not to watch” but overnight? Like literally overnight? I keep posting and trying, like it’s a bubble that will pop. But anyone else experiencing this??? It’s so extremely defeating!!! Anyone have ideas how to fix???

      Yes. Even when I get 61%+ swipe through rate I only get views in the first 45-ish minutes and nothing ever again. Also the last week or two I’m literally getting 0-5 views. Like what?

    • @FEATDOXSHORTS
      @FEATDOXSHORTS 2 месяца назад +1

      I'm back to RUclips after almost 8 years. Been serious for 2 weeks now and just realized how defeating it can feel getting 50-100 views on a video when mrBeast is getting 270M! I then Created a playlist and put all my dubious videos inside and each day's end, I've checked the analytics of the playlist, shocked that 1000+ people are visiting my channel per day! and they have watched my not so good content for more than 40 hours! and 10 subscribers! It’s so extremely defeating if you look at each video individually, but if you look at the channel as a whole, that's motivating enough to continue posting. Use the analytics tool to learn what's working, its gold.

  • @Ride_0n

    There are definitely impressions for shorts, although RUclips wants to pretend there are not. Your home page, your channel page, anywhere except the shorts feed. And since you can't make a thumbnail for it, it's crippled in those locations. I feel that hampers a short in the short feed as well because they'll swipe right past it without giving it 1 second if that first frame isn't appealing.

    • @ZacksRockingLifestyle
      @ZacksRockingLifestyle Год назад

      Yep, I’ve got a short about a guitar with artwork on the back, and the thumbnail for it shows half of the artwork. I’m not sure if that’s good or not, because it half spoils the point of the short.
      Edit: I should add that the only views it now gets come from people searching for that guitar and from my channel page

    So I did this for 30 days starting March 6th. And here's what happened: Views are up, subs doubled, and even some of my older videos are coming to life. I did not experience what you did and I believe it is because of 2 things. 1. I don't entirely understand my audience and I need to continue to build it based on my current theme (photo, adventure, vlog, behind the scenes) (my channel started out with no theme but a few videos took off on how to cook and how to game, 30-40% of my audience is from a different time that doesn't match the current theme). 2. You referred to it as a spark, I have described it myself as jump starting an engine. Not understanding my audience and not having a clearly defined game plan has slowed it down. I now put voiceover on everything and use words in everything I publish and at first I wasn't.
    I would not call this a failure as my numbers are up and I have learned a lot. I have not tested it but I remember hearing about playlists and binging getting some attention recently. I feel like your content is bingeable. Mine not so much. I am trying to produce shorts that can all fit in the same themed playlist and feel like even if playlists aren't getting any additional focus, just have content that can be binged, like your consistently themed shorts.
    Now I have all of this data, including the times my audience is online and most likely to view my content (which does not even open up unless you have enough views) which I base my schedule time around and I can now create more content or dig through existing stuff in storage for content that can be themed or fit well with my existing theme.
    While this also wasn't a huge success, I gained valuable information about my audience and a target to build upon. I continued posting daily and so far I have stuff scheduled until 4/15 but I am in need of more content and going to be heading back out soon to get more and hopefully one of those jump starts will get this engine purring. Thanks for the great info. I needed some validation because doing this for free while trying to run a more than full time business can be challenging and at times a total let down. But ultimately when I reflect on my success, I have nobody to blame but myself.

    Oddly enough, my top 5 shorts ( average 8.1 million views), there is no voice-over/dialogue or text on screen. I think this has to do with international/non-English speaking/reading audiences.

  • @G-and-J-Chapel-Artworks

    It's as simple as "new is interesting."
    When we upload anything new, it gets dumped anywhere it might be received well. This causes a spike in views. Then that same content reverts back to the core audience, who most of the time have already viewed it, "flatlines" or drops in view count happen.
    I've noticed this with all of my content, especially shorts, they exploded with the first few to 24 hours, then nothing.

    I watched your video on "I made 30 Shorts in 30 Days" and it encouraged me to have a go at shorts
    I made a few shorts once they came out a couple of years and I was like Meh, not for me and ignored it for the most part.
    Then the last few months, a few channels appeared from nowhere with huge numbers/subs. It took 3-4 years to get to where I am 60k subs. And some of these guys have caught me in what feels like overnight....
    I had been posting on TikTok and instagram, so had a small library of short videos to get me going
    Since then I have been posting a short every day after watching your video and I think it has adversely affected my longer new videos, I have put a couple out that should have done well, but have been very flat.
    But the shorts are gaining momentum and well, the more you do something the better you get and my shorts are getting better too.
    I will have to try and work more stories into my shorts, though I'm more of a how-to kind of channel.
    Thanks for your videos, they have been very helpful :)

    I have a few shorts that keep getting traffic from search... Others just do that spike, flatline, spike flatline, maybe gradual increase. The ones that hit in seach have a continuous increase in views (I have one that has been gradually getting views for over a year). I still put a brief description and tags and I make sure I have a frame within the short that makes a decent thumbnail so that in search and on the homepage, they still grab the attention of viewers. The shorts shelf isn't the only place you get views from this format.

    Shorts are the most thankless work that RUclips ever came up with. You get a few hundred views and then it "flatlines". It took three or more hours to make that short and then you get $ 0.003 as a reward. Subscribers who subscribe for shorts usually don't watch your long content. Why am I still doing shorts? They said it was "a golden opportunity". I think it's garbage.

    Videos with good AVD that die at a few views die because they have bad "How many chose to view". Video got recomended but if let's say only 20% choose to view and the rest 80% Swipped away then the "algorith" doesn't recommend your videos anymore and your short dies

    Thanks for this information , I am writing to address a concerning issue I've noticed with my RUclips channel. Initially experiencing positive growth in views and engagement, there has been an unexpected decline in video views over the past week. Despite efforts to maintain content quality, I am seeking your guidance to identify potential reasons behind this drop and actionable solutions to rectify the situation. I'm dedicated to delivering valuable content and maintaining open communication with my audience. Any insights into changes in algorithms, trends, or guidelines would be greatly appreciated as I work to restore momentum to my channel.

      You can click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the strip of shorts and hit not interested until they’re all gone. You need to do this a few times when that strip pops up. I can’t remember the last time I got those
