This frankly beats the snot out of Lightroom. At least on an individual photo basis. Now creating batches to apply the same correction across a range of photos would make the Develop Persona beyond amazing.
With this 11 minutes video, I spent may 2 hours to play and experiment the different cursors with some pictures I took in 2010 in RAW with a nikon D5000... I start to understand now that good picture doesnt come only with a good photographer or a good camera. It come also with a good Raw image editing. The histograme is so USEFULL!!!!! Thanks for your video.
I bought Affinity Photo on your excellent half price offer. I have been using Photoshop, The Bridge (mainly) and Lightroom Classic for many years and found them to be very good but increasingly more complicated to use. Affinity and these Tutorials have enabled me to understand so much more of what all the sliders do and with their combination the effects they can produce. I only have to teach my wife how to use it and I can stop my monthly fee to Adobe. Retired professional photographer.
Thank you for this tutorial. I was struggling with editing FUJI RAW on Mac: I finally found out that (for all FUJI shooters like me) you have to go under "DEVELOP ASSISTANT" and select "APPLE RAW ENGINE" and select 16 bit RAW output. This will result in a correct RAW preview in Affinity Photo. I dont know why this this does not happen with Canon RAW files. Hope this will help many other FUJI users :)
Looks good. Is there going to be a new updated hard copy workbook released any time soon? Ill probably be moving it a rural neck of the woods in 2023 & the internet or might not be available or options desired there. Thanks for any replies.
I congratulate you for the new tutorials where the image of the person who is explaining does not appear, since this image distracts and covers part of the program's interface. Congratulations!
💡Make it possible to turn on/off/rename and invert the mask layer in "Develop Persona". These are rudimentary functions, but they don't exist yet... If you do a smart refinement of the mask around the edges of the object, it will be luxurious. 😉👍
Hey there! Cool Vid. Just was searching for one that explains mass-import. I am doing Photos of Fabrics in a Studio-Setting. There is a Photo with a grey-cube and the next one needs to be adjusted to the white-level. Mostly there are many more photos that need "one" adjustment in mass. Did I miss something or is this video missing? Thank you for all your efforts.
Towards the beginning, the option as to whether to save a pixel layer or work nondestructively was available; I don't see it at the end. Why did it disappear?
You never say whether the "Develop Persona" is destructive (permanent once you click the "Develop" button) or non-destructive (you can always go back and change settings). What, exactly, does clicking the "Develop" button do?
Hi Grant, there's a non-destructive RAW video that covers this: ruclips.net/video/fkbFaww_maQ/видео.html This original RAW video was recorded before non-destructive RAW made it into the beta builds. It will eventually be re-recorded at some point in the future, but the video above provides several workflow ideas for non-destructive RAW. Clicking the Develop button will convert the image to a 16-bit document with whichever colour profile you've chosen for the output (e.g. sRGB, ROMM RGB, Adobe RGB). Using non-destructive RAW will ensure the layer is a specific "RAW layer" that can be re-developed at any time.
@@AffinityPhotoOfficial I will await for the new tutorial too !!!! :) Thank you so much! your way of explaining is great, receive my greetings for the season from Uruguay.
Despite the following rant I love Affinity Photo: A major disappointment: RAW file opening takes even longer than before when it was already intolerably slow. 90-120 seconds to open 15 Sony ARW files (24 mpx each) with Affinity Photo being the only active program. And the loading process nearly hangs the entire Windows 11 16 GB system (SSD drives). I'm a retired programmer, and I have to say that this isn't good enough. Please don't suggest more RAM, 16 GB should be sufficient for this. Multitasking was invented in the 1990's and it's intolerable that Affinity Photo hangs the system. It's just poor programming practice. Furthermore I still want to be able to hit Esc on my keyboard to close an image in the develop persona. That's what the Esc button on the keyboard is for. I also want to be able to close Affinity Photo with a one-time dialog "Close all windows?" instead of having to kill it from the task manager or close all image tabs.
How can I edit multiple RAW photos with Affinity photo? At the moment I can only open one at a time, so it is not possible for me to select and process shots for a customer. I would like to switch to Affinity to edit the photos, but at the moment I can only do this with Photoshop and Capture One. Thank you
Hi i see that there's no camera profile for white balance as in Adobe Photoshop / Lightroom. Does Affinity photo works with xrite products like dng profile manager. I use a Adobe as you know now. In Photoshop i use AdobeRGB because my monitor gives AdobeRGB 99% (My Monitor Benq SW2700PT) So i use Xrite i1 Studio device for monitor color calibration and to create printer profile. All for these helps in working almost perfect colour management workflow. So does new affinity ver. 2.2 has AdobeRGB for primary display colour and does it support camera profile created in xirite colorchecker pasport and can that be used in camera raw file edit. Can i use paper profile i create using i1 studio device for print to screen color match ? I don't if I am asking too much but i want to know before i try this.
Is there something I need to download to open a .dng file? Very annoying that I can find nothing on this. Keep getting this file type is not supported.
i just got affinity photo few months back, is it worth the upgrade, to affinity photo2 ? there is no upgrade to existing users of affinity photo pretty sad.
Please please PLEASE make the develop persona into a separate app with a folder based workflow like lightroom, I will literally pay for it a full new app price. Give the develop persona folder based workflow, a star rating system access and you can have my money
PLEASE add to PERSONA : 1.Mouse Sroll function on slider 2.Object masking AI + invert 3.HSL 4.Preset (not studio/layout preset) 5.Batch edit 6.Photo Explorer (Auto find RAW and refresh icon) 7.Crop ratio template for SOCMED

I've been using Affinity for several years - poorly it turns out! Thanks so much - I'm headed towards any other videos you have produced.

At last, I am beginning to see some light and appreciate the power of Affinity Photo. The Beginner's guide was quite a hurdle for me.
As usual, an excellent tutorial of this new Affinity photo version. THANK YOU JAMES.
This is just the best, thank you for this video series! For an amateur only beginning to process RAW, this clear information guide is invaluable!😁
This is an excellent tutorial! Clear and concise. Affinity rocks!

Thank you so much, work with raw from panasonic LUMIX too ;)
Thank you very helpful. This is not straight forward. Firstly ,I have a Mac secondly , I have Fuji X-T5
I’m digging this tutorial. I have a clearer understanding of development now.

Super helpful thank you!

Quite nice to edit individual photos, but working on a collection of photos is not included?
Excellent introduction to RAW development in Affinity Photo, thanks!

Great explanation, thanks. I wonder if there is a way I can rename overlays?
Excellent tutorial, thank you.
Awesome video! I am glad I went with Affinity over LR.
Great tutorial, much appreciated!!
I can't believe I've wasted all that outrageous amount of money to Capture One..
Excellent video!

Thank you for all your efforts.
Still not possible to copy and paste RAW adjustments in multiple images like in Bridge or Lightroom?
As soon as they have as many top tier full-time programmers as Adobe, that will be their first priority.
Very useful. Thank you!
One thing I have always wondered. Sharpening in the RAW developer. Radius is a percent. Percent is a relative term. Percent of what?
Brilliant tutorial man, thanks so much

this is perfect, thx :)
shame that there is still no 'Clarity' adjustment when using the gradient tool.
Agreed. Any kind of overlay.
Hello but can I enchant a single colour in a coloured image as you do with the black and with selection?

the white balance tool is bugged in the last version of Affinity. It only moves the temperature bar and not the tint

How many overlays can I make in the Develop persona, and how can I separate them in the list - can I give them relevant names?
But dcp (personal digital camera profiles) not work in raw module?
Is there something I need to download to open a .dng file? Very annoying that I can find nothing on this. Keep getting this file type is not supported.
Does it have multiple raw processing? I have previous version of AP and it is so hard to process each raw file one by one.
Sure makes Adobe's Camera Raw look easy.
Dos the iPad version do all the same things?
How do you copy a set of raw settings into the next picture?
Thank you!
really cool

Thanks for this instructional video. I have some learning to do.
How does affinity work with Fujifilm
Where is the before/after button?
Nobody noticed they sneaked CR3 in which surely is important
👍👍👍THANKS!
Still no support for Lumix GH6 Raw fies.
you should provide the files
We would need a video that shows what's new🤨
There's one available! (And a separate video for iPad too)
