- A compilation of select footage from an exhilarating journey by the Barak Valley Exp. from Lumding to Badarpur. For nearly 11 hours, me and my companions were in paradise, as the train cut through the Barail range and played hide-n-seek with the Jatinga river. Metre Gauge trips don't get better than this!! Quick navigation links:
- Double-headed freights at 6:11, 12:27, 15:42, 21:00
- Train crossings at 0:43, 3:02
- Bridges at 1:10, 4:51, 7:43, 9:41, 17:58, 18:09, 18:33, 19:19, 20:07
- Loco chugging at 1:37, 2:42, 3:53, 4:52, 21:35
Part 1 covers the ride till Harangajao. Part 2 can be seen here - • [Metre Gauge] A Specta... .
I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE FEELINGS FROM MG (2005)
I MISSED THIS RAIL VERY MUCH I HOPE MG WILL AGAIN REOPENED BUT THANKS MANI SIR!
This MG section is now history...good that you captured the beauty of MG ....future generations at least will have this video to feel the thril of the Meter gauge
Beautiful scenery, fascinating to view various aspects of the journey. Amazing how people ride on top of the coaches through tunnels breathing the diesel fumes. Great viaduct builders. I wonder how many workers lost their lives in construction. Most enjoyable. Thank you
An enjoyable journey. Thank you!
Glad you liked it.
Thanks for this amazing video...it .....reminded my childhood memories
@7:03 Very well expressed feelings. I am sad that the route is discontinued but happy that some recorded it. Thank you!
Very sad that MG is done and dusted. Like you said, fortunately we have videos.
I.m from Sri Lanka. We had narrow gauge railways before, unfortunately and shamelessly we lost all of them. We have done nothing to upgrade our excisting railway. You can be proud about what your have done
Thanks! But we, too, have systematically destroyed our metre gauge railways, all in the name of progress. In reality, it was about siphoning off money to private accounts :-(
These are the memories I will charish for lifetime. Thank you for recording it.
You are most welcome. I, too, am glad I covered this route while it was still in MG.
बहुत सुन्दर यात्रा हैँ मेहरबानी
RECALLED MY MEMORIES ...I HAD TRAVELLED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE YEAR 1998 WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL AND HAD TO GO TO SILCHAR TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS....ENJOYED A LOT BUT MISSED THE GREENERY OF THAT AREA
This route was far more better and beautiful to travel with. I really miss the route I miss bagetar station. It was my favourite one😔
My mom used to talk about this rail route which she used to travel for visiting Barak Valley Badarpur Jn. It used to be one of the beautiful rail routes of India. After watching this video she can recall all her childhood memories. Then this rail route use to be one of the lifeline of barak valley
I am very happy that your mom was able to feel nostalgic after seeing this video. I miss MG a lot.
What a remarkable journey. You have literally taken the viewers in the train itself. Thanks a million.
Thanks a lot for your feedback :-)
Thanks for mg train journey of NF Rly hill section video. I traveled this train journey lots of time. Most exciting, interesting, amazing, enjoyable, i enjoyed this train journey very much. I feel nostalgic whenever I see this train journey video. Thanks

U videos are outstanding and very good, U travel for me. I enjoy at home. Dhanyabad ...
This route was very scenic during the rainy season. It was also a bit dangerous because landslides were very common during the rains.
beautiful northeast; refreshing mg barak valley exp travel through nature;awesome track rhythm and loco chugging;great capture!... ALL IN ONE...kya baat hai..!
Dhanyavad!!! Have to traveled in NFR?
Absolutely lovely. Enjoyed it!!
Thanks :-)
First time seeing clean stations plastic free tracks in North India
Wow...... Sir..!!💓💕😘
What a capture...
Reliving... Those moments of my 10th standard.. How time passes...everything.. Gets changed...!!
That 16kmph slow journey was so much soothing....😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks. Time passes by fast. And now this particular section has been abandoned since BG goes through a different alignment.
This line was a real jewel. I do not get tired of watching your beautiful video of the Barak Valley in North East India. Unfortunately, its most spectacular part could not be classified as World Heritage. We will see for a long time these legendary YDM 4 and their passenger cars Jessop which circulated on this line because elsewhere the section Mhow - Omkareshwar has been preserved. These so characteristic trains of the meter gauge are part of the charm of the trip. Unfortunately what is sad is that we will not see them again in this fabulous landscape of the Barak Valley. I live at 7880 km from this line . All your magnificent videos make me make very nice trips and thank you very much. When a line disappears these videos keep it in memory. She still amazes us.
I totally agree with you. It's sad that they did not give this section enough importance to classify it as a World Heritage line. Now it's all gone and we can only relive it through videos.
I really miss the track and and the train lot's of memories i wish it would run again like before
This is a great video! Competent, comprehensive and wholly enjoyable. Congratulations, Mani Vijay!
Very glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your feedback!
Fabulous as per usual Mani! MG has such an unparalleled charm.
Thanks, Ashar. How are things?
Mani Vijay Very good, just got back from my trip to India. Unfortunately, was not able to do ANY rail fanning, but perhaps next time!

Rafeeq mohd Glad your father enjoyed the videos. At that time, MG was so active in Secunderabad. I still remember my trip on the MG Venkatadri from Bangalore to Secunderabad. Missing those days!!
As a kid I used to run from Railway kindergarden and watch venkatadri express ...It used to be hauled by steam engine. ..thanks for reminding me....
Rafeeq mohd Those were the days, right?

Wonderful scenery. Do the people buy tickets? I never see them being taken up or otherwise collected or sold!
Thanks! There are ticket checkers at various stations, so if you didn't buy one before your trip, you could end-up getting caught at the destination.

I had been travelling these routes since my childhood.Over the years the charm has remained. There was an instance when we waited at the Lumding waiting room for over 12 hours to catch the connecting Cachar express.Nevertheless it was a relaxing wait compensated by an even more relaxing trip.
Oh, wow! Would love to hear more stories from you about those good old days.
Trains doesn't run on these tracks now?

DIMAHASAO District Assam hills station northeast Indian
Yes. What an amazing journey that was! Now IR has robbed Dima Hasao of good rail connections bcoz the BG line is far the original stations - Lower Haflong, Haflong Hill, Bagetar, Jatinga. How do residents of Dima Hasao feel about the new broad gauge line?
