Old times when Carlos Santana was in Metallica...
then he had a great solo career
he was replaced by steven tyler
Christian O Donnel played bass before making Batman Forever. Great line up
No. He was replaced by Michael Jackson in 1994-95, then by Jimi Hendrix in 1996-98.
Sebastián Mayorca Carlos Santana lol 😂
the bassline with a pic sounds more like banjo
no that just jasons tune
Hahaha
I thought the same thing
Nah it’s just Jason’s weird tone
It’s because his tone and the way he hits the strings. In the real song, Cliff used palm muting and finger galloping.
0:40 Cliff's ring he always wears it
0:02 Jason : Boom Boom Bomm with my head
0:13 Jason : Fuck this shit my head hurts
haha
Why is this so funny lol
I love how Kirk always flips us off with his picking hand when he's playing
Aaron Elliot T 4:38 man I just noticed it
he does it for his haters
and he gives a middle finger exclusively to you at 4:05
At 6:18 and after ... close up flip lol
I love Jason's usage of effects and how much different they are than Cliff's.
Fun fact: Jason used Cliff's Morley power wah fuzz that Cliff used until 1982!
They sound terrible
@@dickblackmon9644 I agree Jason’s tone here is not good but in most concerts it’s ok
@@JM00237 you are both wrong
Are you referring to the very first five seconds of the video?
James and Kirk wearing Cliff's rings...
I didn’t know that was Cliff’s ring??
I mean obviously the skull rings are but Kirk’s ring?
@@serenowens1609 cliffs rings were gifted to James by cliffs mother after his funeral/cremation
@@Carryme_plz yeah I know the skull ring was Cliff’s but Kirk is wearing a silver band which apparently was also Cliff’s
3:12 James's pose is SO EPIC!!
Damian Sieradzki james himself is just epic lol
That was cliffs pose
And then Kirk looks like he's on a green screen...
that’s the power stance.. makes your riffs heavier
That looks like cliffs Pose
0:11 - "Ow that hurt"
no don't worry , the bass resonates quite a lot , i did it and with little efforts of the skull tbh :D
1:17 That's a cool fretboard...of wolf and man?
3:48 the power of the wah
pentatonics + wah = kirk
Let's add this to doodlegod
Some hate Kirk for too much wah. He’s uses wah more than Hendrix. Most wah using guitarist. Shit he made wah metal. He makes it sound evil and powerful and badass. 🤘🏼some say he and other guitarists use wah to cover up mess ups... with Kirk that ain’t true. It’s his style.
W a h
3:38 we need more Solos from Kirk like that.
wdym? that's the base of a lot of his solos. Wah pedal, sick pentatonic and minor licks, tapping/hammer ons and pull offs...
@@lapinus so much more feel/soul in this solo here as in most other solos by him
The solo is so fucking ball gripping
SO TRUE
That transition by Kirk into Ktulu at 5:05 with the legato is legendary
Fr
I love how both bassists that succeeded Cliff played HIS masterpieces their own way, personally I see it as them paying homage to Cliff and showing him respect by not fully copying his style. They don’t stand where he stood, but they are close.
[Edit: Grammar fix]
succeeded
@@prestigeworldwide7914 thank you
@@ryangoodrow8829 my man 😂
You're right he didn't play it like Cliff.
1:48 You can see that Kirk really miss Cliff so much
imagine the trauma he lived when the accident happened... those things you never forget...
and kirk and were the best friends.. :(
Fiszu He often cries. There are several interviews where he tears up.It is so sad to watch
it is..
Just look at James while he plays Orion. He plays with feeling and looks heavenward. James lost his right hand man and so did the other guys but I think it took a heavy toll on James with all the excessive drinking and violent screaming.
1:20 James' "Of Wolf and Man" fret markers are badass
Metallica in thier prime glory days . You dont see them merging songs anymore like this . Respect to these metal wizards.
They were the biggest band in the world at this time
This was definitely NOT their prime!
This sucks bigtime!!!
@@ZYGTropicals are you just trolling or are you stupid lmao ? Cause obviously you haven't looked up live performances from the start of their music careers to current date performances and compared them.
@@ZYGTropicals I'm gonna say 86-91 was their best live years but 93 wasn't bad by any stretch but James voice was starting to get fucked from all the black album touring lol
Medleys are lame. I'd rather hear them play one of those songs in its entirety
Kirk was on fire
5:16 that entry sounds so epic
It's sounds like King Nothing
Must of been the birth of when they wrote King Nothing.
Dave mustaine wrote it
@@G6SR9K he wrote kirks improve?
@@masteroffire5793 yes
Reminded me why Kirk Hammett is my favorite guitar player.
WitchKingUchiha1 used to be your*
elcrack3343 He likes him. If u don't like him because he's overused Wah, then don't say what is not of your business.
Kirk is fucking skilled and talented. Look at him back in videos like these. He is sharp and focused. Nowadays, I honestly can't tell if it's age or he is just lazy, but his solos are obviously lacking. Some of them, anyway. Maybe he is like, "I was the king, I was on top of the world, I accomplished all I wanted to. I have no reason to try anymore."
Daniel Romero
ive heard kirk has arthritis, and that could possibly be whats hindering his ability to play well
♥️😍
I love the shot of Cliff’s Ring on James right when the guitars come in on Orion
Orion will forever have a special place in my heart
Ditto. It was Cliffs favorite song, & tbh since that album 1st came out & heard it beginning to end it's been my favorite also. Ironically I've always looked forward to winter just to see the constellation with my telescope. RIP CB.
0:08 THANOS IS THE BASS GUITAR PLAYER IN METALLICA!!
That’s the face that happens when... I’m not gonna say the next words... 😆
Jason your too fucking metal man
+rikuroxgaming Be metal for your own good!
+rikuroxgaming "too metal for your own good" - James 1992
+Dan 2c plus haha right
Man i wish jason never left.
*you're*
too much hate in the comments.
i want this Lars back on Metallica... :(
Miguel Medinas Lars is Lars.
danilo maksimovix That is exactly what i wanted to say
This was 25 years ago... Give them a break.
He is dead
He is now lazy, but he’s old you can’t blame him. He used to have so much energy.
Almost breaks his skull and then 0:17
Jhajah yeah, just punch the fuck out of the bass, crush his head with the bass ad then make some agresive notes with an agonizing face, just for then calmy say thx man and gently playing the rest of the song.
fucking hell that pure, raw drum sound gets me hyped every time. that snare bass and even the toms...
he should get a new drum kit... a drum kit like back then! not that shiny ass drum kit he has nowadays
I am a drummer and honestly his drumset is fine (except the snare and the missing ride cymbal 😂) - one of Tama's best.
It's the way they tune it, mix it etc pp
In reality it's completely irrelevant what kit you play in a concert - you can have any sound you want.
dude that white tama is goddddd. and even the smokey grey he used in the and justice for all tour is great. those 4 toms and snare sound so good. great kit.
0:34 guitar ASMR
Y’all need to calm down, Jason has his own sound and it’s sounds great
YES! Totally agreed man!
No, it' doesn't tbh. I can honestly see why they turned his playing down on the albums.
hammett was a frickin savage after 3:40
hell yea he is
Yes.
He was playing the guitar in the fretboard with only one hand.
The best thing it's the sound.
Jimmy page always did that
Savage level: wah wah
WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH
Even though he was playing an Ibanez with stock pickups. it still sounds like Kirk!
Jason intro "fuck that was a bad idea..."
"When a man dies he murders some part of the world. These are the pale depths of which men miscall their lives. All this I cannot bare to witness any longer. Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home."- Cliff Burton RIP
Well, some of it.
The first part is from Excalibur.
"Lies"
Whatever that means.....
@@joenickell6323 wow, really?!
Lies! Not Dies!!!
You=Epic fail!!!
What....Kirk with an Ibanez RG with the V8, S1 and V7 lineup....impressive.
I didn't recognized Lars with beard and long hair.
Toornap Tarraa and playing well
Toornap Tarraa that isn't lars it's Jesus XDXDXDDD😂

I've been playing drums for 35 yrs, the black and white tama was the best
its probably also the way it was recorded. fantastic drum sound
Kinda weird seeing Kirk play a Ibanez but he killed it as always...
You telling me to learn English but don't know what "Bugger off " means maybe I ain't the one who needs to learn English.. look it up Mr. English Major just know I am being as polite as possible seeing as your opinion of my spelling was never asked for... Thank you and have a great day...😁
Many rock and metal bands used Ibanez low key in the 80s and 90s
He used the Ibanez a lot during this tour.
Kirk was killing it through the whole vid
yes
Wow, the ring on James' right hand was the ring that Cliff had! That I didn't see that sooner!
Newsted is just like holy shit uh... “Thanks, man”
Am I the only one who loves this version on orion. I think it has some energy going on in it. 🔥 Jason forever
me too
i adore Jason but Orion doesnt sound good to me with a pick.
on the other hand, the call of ktulu with that wah and TLITD sounds perfect
I agree that orion doesn't sound good with a pick. He also didn't play the bass solo. He got right up to it and then they changed songs. If you're going to play cliffs songs play the most badass parts. I do like Jason's playing in a lot of instances, but to me this falls short.
@@millersethe i dont know why he choose to play Orion with a pick because he can play with fingers very good. i think they didnt wont to play the whole song in memory of cliff, maybe jason wasnt allowed to play.. Orion is not that hard to play on bass, trust me. and im not profesional player.
@@4md17 On the contrary,. Jason is not a very good player if he is attempting to use his fingers. He a bass strummer pretty much,.. not a very good “bass” player per se. Personally, I think he really struggled with Cliff’s parts / solos. That intro to Orion was just awful. Tone, timing, effects just really bad.
5:16 for a second I thought they were gonna play I Dissapear :P
Me too xD
It wasn't out at this time
Nolan Beasinger whooooooooooosh
1993 sounds like a good place to be
When Jason banged the bass on his head. XD and just says after: thanks man. XD
The best way to wake up This clip, it's 8:00 and the morning it's so fucking cold
This is the only time I saw kirk hammet improvising and it is amazing!
sounds like a load solo
@Red Dogg - Rebel4Truth and when it comes to Yngwie malmsteen we know he goes nuts on stage best improviser i think
@Red Dogg - Rebel4Truth i saw them perform in Singapore and it was epic but it was like playing the CD no surprises
James' fret inlays on his guitar are sweet. I also love how Jason was the first to cramp their style and cut his hair.
oh yeah Late Black Album tour. They Had to have been Fried by this time.
Yep. 2 and a half years on the road. Crazy
Still don't understnd why they don't play "To Live Is To Die" live, in its fullness. Only once have they done it. It's such a great song.
It’s probably very hard emotionally for them to do it
I Love The Way That Kirk Used Ibanez Here.🖤🎸
the first ten seconds of the video is me trying to get my pokemon yellow to bring up my last saved file
0:08 when you step on a lego
😂😂😂
best performance ive seen from kirk ever, espessially the orion solo and Live is to Die
The ripper doing what he does best!🎸🤘🤘
0:00 - 0:10 best part ever
You are fuck hahaha
Best comment ahha
frr
Dude, those are some badass inlays on James' guitar. Of Wolf and Man!!
kirk hammett with Ibanez hahaha
Gils moraes those RG's were the shit! Sounds good as fuck too
rodriguez256 All stock RG-570 Kirk was approched by Ibanez and sent him that model but he was too loyal to ESP but Kirk at least gave it a good run on that leg of the "Roam" tour as he loved the wizard neck on them.
he use that just to smashed it after guitar solo
RG’s are no joke
god they were soo much better back then!
alcoholika24 they are the same as they used to be, they just shifted the tone because James was not able to sing at that tone because of his age
They are not even close to 1989 I’ve seen them every decade trust the OGs
@@ihateminecraft932 they're still great, but its not the same. Kirk doesn't play as cleanly and his solos consist of only WAH now. James blew out his voice in the 90's and cmon even without blowing out his voice age affects everyone.
But I still think they do an amazing job for their age.
they went downhill this year, but they still kick ass and are one of the of the greatest metal bands ever
0:35 sounds like an old radio turning on
I love the decals on James’s fretboard!!!
actually built-in, custom made
Inlays y'all
At 3:53 Kirk is starting to get really into it. The emotion in that solo is just over your comprehension. Rest in peace Cliff.
3:53
3:53 indeed friends
0:00 Poooaaam, puam pam pam pam pam pam pam, pom pom pom BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNG...
Thanks, man!
Thanks,man
I would love to have seen this live! At theirs peaks here, especially Kirk! Some nice soloing. Not to mention during 3 of my favorite songs.
Jason is a beast of stage. His intensity and energy enhance any song he plays. But it is all in the past. Now we have Rob who is a great bassist and person.
Cliff is those awesome raw tone for ktulu and Orion who not be there if it weren’t for cliff
Sorry my English is not the best
Best intro ever.
I love the way they got into Ktulu
That's PURE MetallicA. I love that concert. \m/
To live is to die in this concert is a pure medicine
They can’t play like this anymore, no chance what a shame.
One of the best live solos Kirk ever did = FREAKING AMAZING ! I wish Lars and Kirk played with this passion today :/ ! '88-'98 Just love watching Lars drum in the period
monamOneX I remember the Master of Puppets tour. Lars was beating the crap out of the drums like an insane mad man. And Kirk was amazing live. The whole band was phenomenal. My ears were ringing for 2 days.
Some of Lars' best drumming was in S&M for sure
Metallica should do stuff like this more often, it's quite cool!
i was there as an second stuff..., amazing!!!! Metallica for ever!!!!
This one of my favorite Orion live in YT, Jason bass sound so good
Jason Newsted rock's Satan's chair!!!! Honor and respect my brother!!
At 1:50...no crowd, just him, te music and Cliff!
Easily one of Kirk’s best solos
Kirk is so easy going and nice, that you could almost forget that he is one of the greatest to ever do it
James' Guitar Faces - Legendary
when Kirk changes the solos in songs, does he actually rewrite them or does he's just improvise them live?
He improvises
My god, who the hell gave this a thumbs down?!? This medley was amazing. Jason is really on point wit Orion
No, he's absolutely not. He's butchering the shit out of it.
@@wickedflea😂 seriously tho. It’s god awful.
@@butterblood I seriously thought it was a joke at first, like someone had dubbed in a purposely bad version. There couldn't be a better example of someone hitting the right notes all wrong.
And he's in the band seven years at that point, my God...
@@wickedflea Same. I was laughing at first thinking it was like a “Newsted Shreds” video.
last good year for metallica
like for vivi!
I actually agree with you. This was their last year awesomeness. they have had good years after this, but they were not as awesome as this one or the years before
Exotic.Tofu I still believe its 1989... but I'll pretend to agree with you
Mark iic plus 44 maybe in terms of albums (if you really dont like the black album) but in terms of shows they were still godlike until 93 ended.
Exotic.Tofu very good point. Agreed.
OMG I WAS THERE... I was tired, had a fever, the day was hot, too hot for me... 1500 km to see this performance. Queensrÿche, Black Crowes, Metallica and AC/DC
Jason fucking rules
Jason's bass sounds good to me.
äläpä
Sounds awful.
Nawh! It sounds amazing! It’s original and super cool!
i was there as an 2.stuff member, build and rebuild this stage in 36hours...men..., it was tuff, but concert was right.., ifed met hetfield and hemmet by "pushing" stuff-cases from stage to vehicle and becomes an "Duett" with Salt n pepper song "ah push it, push it realy good" live from them, it was amazing!!! (i was 19 Years old...)
this is now my favorite live video of Metallica R.I.P. Cliff
Those Alembics are HEAVY man. I gotta punch my bass pretty hard (active p-ups too) to get a decently loud sound. He hit his head pretty damn hard on that. Pretty fucking metal.
Anyone else think James looks high during Orion?
He was still recovering from his burns, and probably still on pain meds. And possibly drunk too lol
He’s sad man
Perfection
0:36 love the crackle

Как качественно сыграно. Сто баллов!
James fretboard is the coolest one I’ve seen holy shit
Wow this is so awesome ! Got Goosebumps !
Un gran tributo para Cliff
Rob really better on Orion for sure!
but Cliff is the best!
+Nikos Mj 1st: Cliff Burton 2nd: Robert Trujilo 3rd: Jason Newsted (for orion)
I said rob's better since there's no live version for orion with cliff
But look at 0:08 If i can´t get Cliff, i rather prefer Jason face over Trujillo actual superior Playing... Omg i failed as musican XD
Guys, calm the fuck down, it's just a jam
