  • Randy Newberg has been dreaming of hunting sheep for 40 years. Randy and cameraman, Marcus Hockett, have Dall sheep tags in ruggedly beautiful Alaska. With ten days to hunt, they will trek these rugged mountains in search of two legal rams and fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
This 2018 Alaska hunt was a general tag, requiring a 13-mile hike in/out, and countless miles chasing the sheep from camp. In Alaska, non-residents must hire a guide for Dall sheep, or use a second-kindred family member. Randy and Marcus are with Eric Lee of Alaska Adventure Services.
Randy has a strange live condition that makes itself very evident midway through this hunt. Thanks to Marcus' amazing effort, and a cameo appearance by good friend Tim Burnett of the Solo Hunter, the hunt is a huge success.
This episode is exactly how it aired on Season 7 of Amazon Prime.

Randy: Thank you for this video. I'm soon to be 77 years old. I lived in Anchorage for five years and had the good fortune to sheep hunt for of those years. While, I didn't walk in to any of my areas, once dropped off, me and my buddy were on our own for 7 days. I saw sheep on every trip and was fortunate to shoot two and help my buddy get his first sheep. My last sheep was on a trip with my wife. It was hard, my wife was tough . We saw too many sheep but the weather and a grizzly bear caused us trouble. While my last sheep was taken solo on the last day of the hunt, it was the most rewarding for me. I was able to pack the animal out to a creek that was about 3 times bigger than the one you filmed. It was way to dark so I ditched the sheep and pushed hard for 2 miles into base camp.Needless to say Karen was first pissed and worried because I was so late but when I told her of my sheep be was delighted. At O dark :30 I was up a gunning for my sheep. I must have covered that four mile round trip in less than 3 hours. Every step back to camp I worried thinking I could hear that Beaver throttling back for a landing at our base camp. Fortunately I made it. Ironically, we had to wait four more days for the weather to clear before we were picked up. We never worried because I had started to plan our hike out to the highway. It would have been about 20 miles but doable in three to four days. because we would have dropped in low country within a mile from our base camp. All's well that ends well. It was great trip never to be forgotten. Every once in a while when things get tough my wife tells me about that trip and how we were so tight back then. AK is beautiful, sheep are beautiful and the privilege to be there is indescribable. Ironically my sheep hunting mentor has moved to WY. We lost track of each other because we each experienced house fires but after almost 33 years we will finally have another hunting trip. Bruce lives in Buffalo WY , we both have antelope tags. Wish us good luck. It will be a self guided trip.
Thank you for sharing and keep chasing your dreams. Someday you'll won't be as strong or fit for a hunt but the memories will always be there.

We’ve watched you struggle with your limitations and you always manage to reach deep and somehow find the strength to carry on. I just hope you realize how much of an inspiration you are to us “high mileage” guys! You are truly blessed to have a great friend and wonderful employee like Marcus! Awesome filming of a gutsy, grueling, beautifully rewarding hunt, in an amazing, vast land. Thank you all for making the efforts to film and share your adventure.
I'm in remission from cancer now! - Chemotherapy gave me some nerve damage in my feet, but Randy's words in this film have fanned the ember that's in me to go get a big Muley. So I'm going to keep fighting and working out and hopefully in a year or two I'll recover enough to do a hunt.

What you guys went through to get it done proved your ability to accept the challenge and work through the trials and mishaps and keep going to be successful in the end. Having lived in the Great North that is Alaska for 15 years and hunted for 10 of those years, this was the most inspiring hunt video I've seen. What the will of men can do in the quest for realizing a dream. I had my own plane for most of the time I was there and had one Dall Sheep hunt in all that time so I can say that this one was the toughest and most rewarding hunt I've ever seen. My only sheep hunt was nothing like this one. We, my buddy with another plane and i and another buddy flew in above the Brooks range off the Noatak river (north of Kotzebue), and because we could see what animals were on the tops of the mountains below us, we landed, camped, and the next day hiked the back side of a steep mountain with sheep at the top, and all three of us killed legal rams after peeking over the peak. I was the last to shoot so of course my sheep was running away and I had to shoot him on the run. Our hunt doesn't even do justice to what effort you, Randy and Marcus, had to endure to get your sheep. As residents of Alaska, the regs were with us and with planes to get us in, hunting is much easier. Your hunt was an inspiration. Well done, both of you and your helpers.

This was so amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this experience. What a test of endurance! This has inspired me to do whatever it takes and hike however far is necessary to accomplish my goals this fall.

Wow, this is the first time this guy has seemed limited by the human condition. I salute you for your perseverance and courage. I am very impressed by your achievement with a liver condition. Fantastic achievement that is now beyond my age and ability due to a spinal injury. Sheep ribs over a campfire was Fred Bear’s favorite meal. Best wishes.

This type of hunting has passed me by. I don’t know if I’ll ever get over never having tried. My dream hunt right now is a moose or elk with a bow. Fairly sure I can make it happen but a lot is going to have to go right. Randy, you and your crew give me the courage to try. Your hunts are inspiring and I try new things every year. Keep making videos. I watch as many as I can and I always watch them to the end.

Very great video, one of the very best I've seen you do, and an awesome Ram you harvested, hopefully your health lets you do the rest of your dream hunts, Marcus's push and drive was amazing along with the guide you had, which helped Marcus also harvest a great Ram. Thank you for sharing such a great video.

Nice film (understatement!) it wasn't perfect, but hunting isn't is it? I respect the fact it wasn't heavily edited, you all worked incredibly hard for the final results, no doubt you Randy, at the age Marcus is, would have been charging up those mountains in the past. Marcus 'The Machine' Hockett!
