- Llama rancher Beau has used hunting for elk as motivation to become healthier as he was diagnosed with cancer. After defeating cancer, Beau goes elk hunting to find a massive bull elk on what turns out to be much more than your standard elk hunt. In this episode of Fresh Tracks, Beau Baty of Wilderness Ridge Trail Llamas is headed to the public lands of Wyoming to chase elk. Beau has always hunted over-the-counter tags, this is his first limited opportunity hunt.
This hunt is about a lot more than chasing big bulls, as Beau was diagnosed with cancer early that year. While he thought about turning the tag back in, he chose to keep it as something to hold on to and work towards to get healthy.
Having been cleared and deemed cancer-free, Beau packs up the llamas and makes his way to his unit. Having no time to scout, he is going in blind but has a plan to cover country and glass until he locates a herd to focus in on. With any luck, he will be able to find a mature bull to harvest and bring home to his family.

My uncle was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer this year. This is the first time in 45 years he can't hunt or go out on his boat. First time in 20 years for me we can't go shooting or spend time outside together. Brings tears to my eyes seeing you able to get back out there and recover. Keep chasing your dreams.
My uncle was diagnosed with terminal lumbago, he died in 1911.. He was a good man and a good rancher for sure

I'm a late-onset hunter myself coupled with my health issues, which make my goal for my dream of a backcountry hunt while I can, a bit of a stresser. I'm not going to have 6 years to vie for a draw tag.

One good thing about a Bull elk that old is that he has contributed his genetics to the herd already.
I like hearing stories where people beat cancer especially this one because you are back out elk hunting. I am goin through treatments for leukemia too as of January 19 2020 and pray I can hunt this year in wyoming also where I live but it just brings your morale and spirits up hearing about people who beat cancer like you

I had cancer when I was 32 years old. I am now 70 and going strong. I envy you for getting the elk. I still hunt but I don't have the endurance I used too. My dream is to harvest an antelope and an elk. You and your crew did an amazing job on this elk hunt, professional production and concise. This was an inspirational video. I'm too currently battling stage 3b testicular cancer and truly hope to hunt later this year as well. I'm a quarter of the way through 3 months of chemotherapy. Thanks for putting this out there and best of luck on your cancer fight too.

I had already watched this hunt on Amazon but your hunts are truly enjoyable to watch so I watched it again. Amazing attitude, great story teller, and a true sportsman. I hope that you do more hunts with Randy but I too have had things happen that reorganized priorities and family came out on top. I'm no critic, but I've got to say that the cinematography here, might be some of the very best that this outfit has ever produced... Cancer is a scary thing. Im glad u beat it. I was diagnosed with stage 4 last year. Did 8 chemo treatments and know im fixin to do the chemo pills. Its still growing slowly. Its in my lungs, abdominal area, groin and leg. But no point in crying about it. I just keep on moving on. I would love to go on a elk hunt but my mobility is the issue. So thanks for sharing your elk hunts on you tube. Thats probably as close as ill get to hunting
